Chapter 341 Engagement
"Dr. Garcia, it's me."
Charles stood in the hallway, dialing a number.
A calm female voice answered on the other end, "Mr. Percy? What's up? Something happen?"
Maya Garcia was a psychologist who had encountered a wide variety of patients in her career.
Many of their psychological issues were quite apparent.
Some were manic and irritable, some cried and screamed, while others remained completely silent.
But Charles was different.
She had started seeing him two years ago, right after she returned to the country.
Before that, she had been working abroad, and Charles was her first patient upon her return.
Initially, Maya didn't want to take him on, as she was quite well-known in the field and had come back to relax.
But Charles offered her an amount that was impossible to refuse.
Moreover, he seemed completely normal. Even during their conversations, Maya could only sense that he was an exceptionally intelligent and calculating person.
If he hadn't come to her claiming he was ill and engaged in deep conversations, Maya would never have believed that this billionaire could have psychological issues.
His illness stemmed from a person who was already dead.
Charles was left to bear the obsessive feelings alone, which had overwhelmed him to the point of experiencing auditory and visual hallucinations.
Maya had tried to help him remove that person from his mind, but he had strongly resisted.
It seemed like Charles was living off his pain, and at this rate, he would never get better.
But this time, Charles sounded somewhat excited on the phone. "Dr. Garcia, I think I'm going to be cured."
Maya opened her mouth but didn't make a sound.
Psychological illnesses don't just get completely cured. Something external must have stimulated him to make him this excited.
So, Maya played along, "That's great. Did something good happen?"
Charles thought for a moment and then shook his head, "It's not really something good. I just found a new toy."
"A toy?" Maya asked, trying to determine if he was referring to a person or an object.
Hearing her hesitation, Charles felt she wasn't happy for him and became displeased, "Dr. Garcia, aren't you happy for me?"
Realizing his mood shift, Maya quickly changed her tone, "Of course, I'm happy for you. I'm just curious about what kind of toy it is."
Charles lowered his eyes, hiding the sharpness in them. His long eyelashes fluttered slightly in the moonlight, looking like butterflies about to take flight.
After a moment, he said slowly, "A toy that can numb me."
With that, he hung up the phone.
Maya frowned, pondering Charles' words, and could only make bold guesses.
But after thinking for a long time, she realized that Charles would never follow her advice, and she felt a bit disheartened.
She comforted herself, "At least there's something new that can affect his emotions. That's a good thing."
The next day, just as Stella had hoped, Nolan showed up with gifts and proposed an engagement.
Stella's father, Oliver White, initially thought Stella had chosen Nolan. Although he seemed like a decent guy, his family background was quite ordinary.
Oliver was hesitant to agree until Nolan revealed that it was actually his boss, Charles, who wanted to marry Stella.
Oliver was so shocked he nearly fainted. After confirming it three times, he still couldn't believe it.
Stella had managed to find the most outstanding man, and the White family's future was saved. Overjoyed, Oliver quickly accepted the gifts.
Meanwhile, the high society of Evergreen City began to hear the news.
Charles' fiancée was a girl from an unknown, ordinary family. People were in an uproar, thinking it must be a rumor.
But if it were false, the Percy Group wouldn't let such news spread.
When the couple appeared together in public, everyone realized that Stella was indeed going to marry Charles.
Overnight, many women who admired Charles were heartbroken.
However, it wasn't just outsiders who were surprised. Stella herself was in a daze. She had known Charles for only two days before they got engaged.
Not only that, but Charles had also helped the White family get back on its feet, reviving the struggling White Group.
Stella went from being an unnoticed actress who had just returned to the country to a hot, sought-after star.
All of this was thanks to the man behind her, Charles.
Stella felt herself falling more and more in love with Charles.
But gradually, she noticed something was off.
Charles never touched her, not even holding her hand.
When they were together, it was mostly at the office, with him at his desk and her on the couch, watching him from a distance.
How could a healthy, young man have no interest in her?
Considering their quick engagement, Stella guessed that Charles might have erectile dysfunction.
With this suspicion, Stella felt a bit awkward. But considering how much she had already gained, it seemed unreasonable to expect him to be without any flaws.
It wasn't until Charles got drunk at a social event that Stella realized things weren't as she had imagined.
For the first time, she saw Charles drunk. His usually stern face softened, and a faint blush made him look more alive, less like a statue.
Holding a bowl of hangover soup, Stella carefully brought it to his lips, whispering, "Mr. Percy, drink this. It'll make you feel better. You have a stomach condition; you shouldn't drink so much. Let Nolan handle it next time."
On the couch, Charles moved his head and looked at her.
Suddenly, without warning, he stood up and pulled her into his arms. The bowl of hangover soup fell to the floor, landing with a thud.
Stella felt the world spin and only managed a gasp before finding herself on the couch with Charles.
"Charles," she said, her hands on his shoulders, looking into his eyes filled with desire.
Her face flushed. Could it be that they were finally going to take their relationship to the next level?
Charles' eyes were hazy from the alcohol, making everything look like a slideshow.
But he saw Diana and held her. Unlike his dreams and fantasies, this was real and warm.
Though the scent was different, he didn't care. He held her hand to his face, his warm cheek pressing into her palm, and kissed her wrist.
As Stella's heart raced, shocked by this tender side of the usually cold Charles, he whispered hoarsely, "Diana, you're finally back. I've missed you so much."
