Chapter 464 Meeting Again
In the corner of the café, an old-fashioned phonograph played a vinyl record, filling the air with melodious music.
This bustling downtown café had a touch of artistic flair.
At the moment, a middle-aged man in a suit sat at a table with an untouched iced Americano in front of him.
He looked anxious, frequently checking his watch and glancing around, as if searching for someone.
The café door opened, and the bell above it jingled.
The man stopped his restless movements, hoping the next person to enter was the one he was waiting for.
A burly arm appeared first, clearly not belonging to the person he was expecting.
He had only been waiting for ten minutes, but in this moment, those ten minutes felt interminable.
Disappointed, he lowered his head, resting it on one hand and rubbing his temples, not noticing the graceful figure standing before him.
"Robert?"
Diana stood with her hands behind her back, slightly bent forward, tilting her head to look at Robert.
Five years had passed, and he had more gray hair than before, but his refined demeanor remained unchanged.
Robert visibly flinched at the sound of her voice, as if startled, and took a moment before slowly raising his head.
His eyes were red, and his lips moved slightly when he saw Diana, but no words came out.
Diana smiled gently, pulled out a chair, and sat down across from Robert.
"Robert, long time no see."
With those words, Robert couldn't hold back any longer, tears streaming down his face and leaving marks on his suit jacket.
He wiped his tears away, took a deep breath, and said with difficulty, "I'm just glad you're alive. That's all that matters."
Diana's eyes also reddened with emotion. She reached out and held Robert's hand, feeling his warmth.
He instinctively tightened his grip, afraid Diana might disappear.
"Robert, I'm not going anywhere. I'm right here. I want to hear about everything that's happened over the years."
Diana smiled, trying to soothe his emotions.
Noticing the bodyguard standing nearby, she waved him off, "You can stand over there and wait for us."
The man in black walked to the designated spot.
Once he was out of earshot, Robert finally spoke, "I'm sorry. It was my cowardice that put you in that situation alone. I was blind and didn't see what you were planning."
His voice was dry, filled with self-reproach.
Diana's departure five years ago wasn't without warning.
She had transferred the company and given them a large sum of money, hinting at her plans to leave the city when the time was right.
But Robert had been too absorbed in his work, leaving Diana to face Charles alone.
"It's all my fault."
Seeing him wallow in guilt, Diana pursed her lips and comforted him, "What happened was my choice. It had nothing to do with you. As long as you're all doing well, that's good enough for me."
At least it proved her arrangements back then were correct.
Robert was still upset. When he received Nolan's call today, he thought he had done something to anger Charles.
But hearing that familiar name, he was so shocked he dropped his phone. Despite his disbelief, he rushed to the café.
"If it weren't for your arrangements, we wouldn't be living so comfortably. Where have you been all these years? How have you been?"
Robert wiped his tears, hoping for some good news.
Diana blinked and replied, "I traveled overseas. It's very free there, and I made new friends. Robert, don't blame yourself. None of this is your fault. I should thank you for taking care of the company all this time."
After leaving Evergreen City, the only person Diana kept tabs on was Robert.
He continued working at the Spencer Group, overseeing employees and reporting any violations.
Under his supervision, the Spencer Group developed smoothly, which was a great help to Diana.
Robert had never left the company, not because Diana asked him to, but because he made that decision in his grief after hearing of her supposed death.
He hadn't taken care of Bianca's child, and even with a new owner, the company was still the Spencer family's legacy.
That's why he stayed.
Suddenly, hearing Diana mention the company, his heart skipped a beat.
Could it be that Diana hadn't actually transferred the company, but merely changed the management, with the Spencer family still holding the actual shares?
But he had heard the largest shareholder was a foreigner, who managed the company through professional agents.
"So, you didn't give up the Spencer Group? That mysterious owner 'A' is you?"
Robert's voice was low, filled with disbelief.
Diana nodded and smiled, "Robert, I've always been with you all."
Robert wanted to ask more, but considering Diana had come back from the dead, controlling a company didn't seem like a big deal.
With that thought, he quickly accepted the situation.
He wiped away his tears, regaining his usual refined demeanor.
But seeing the bodyguard behind Diana, he sighed, "So, Charles is after you again?"
Diana intertwined her fingers on the table, looking relaxed, but her words revealed her true feelings, "If God gave me another chance, I would never appear before him again."
In nature, there are many vengeful creatures.
Diana had heard of a certain bird that, once angered, would consistently poop on you.
Not only would it seek revenge, but it would also inform its friends and family to join in.
You could either cover your face when going out or leave the area.
Diana now felt like an innocent bystander targeted by bird poop—not fatal, but inescapable and disgusting.
Robert's mindset was much better. After all, Diana had escaped Charles once before; this was nothing in comparison.
He comforted her, "These are just minor issues for you. I believe you can handle it. But this time, don't come back."
His last words were whispered, afraid someone might hear.
Diana raised her hand with a ring on it, smiling bitterly, "That's not really possible. I'm already married."
This revelation shocked Robert.
His gaze fell on the ring, his tone becoming odd with surprise, "You're married?"
"You're married!"
A sharp female voice echoed behind him.
