Chapter 416 Sulking
At the Percy Mansion.
Benjamin sat on the steps at the entrance, holding a toy frisbee. He occasionally tossed it for Snowy to fetch.
The dog was having a blast, but Benjamin seemed distracted.
Ever since he learned about Charles, Benjamin had been feeling a strange sense of unease.
On one hand, there was his mommy, who had painstakingly escaped from a terrifying husband.
On the other hand was Charles. Benjamin had always thought his dad was a terrible villain, but upon arriving at the Percy Mansion, he realized things weren't as he imagined. His dad wasn't as evil as he had thought.
But why? Why did his dad love his mommy, yet she couldn't feel it and always wanted to run away?
Benjamin rubbed the frisbee on the ground.
Snowy waited for a long time without seeing him throw it, then nudged his hand with a wet nose and barked.
Benjamin snapped out of his thoughts, put down the frisbee, and shook Snowy's ears.
"Snowy, you came to this house before me. Can you tell me why?"
Snowy grinned, not understanding his words.
Suddenly, the dog froze, then darted off quickly.
At the same time, the front door of the Percy Mansion opened, and a Maybach slowly drove in.
Snowy excitedly chased the car, clearly recognizing Diana and Charles inside.
Benjamin's eyes lit up too.
The car stopped in front of the steps. Charles got out first, while Diana didn't wait for him to open the door. She quickly got out, almost as if she was fleeing.
She didn't even glance at her son sitting on the steps, only thinking about leaving the scene quickly.
Benjamin called out in confusion, "Ms. Wipere, Mr. Percy, you're back."
Charles walked steadily, glanced down at Benjamin, and frowned, "Don't sit on the ground. It's dirty."
With that, he walked inside.
Benjamin scratched his head. Did they argue again?
No, this time he had to stop them.
If Charles was as Jacob said, then there must be misunderstandings between them. This couldn't go on!
Benjamin stood up abruptly, dusted off his pants, and followed them inside.
Snowy, seeing Benjamin leave suddenly, hesitated for a moment before happily following.
Thus, the Percy Mansion had a "little train" formation led by Diana.
Jacob, who was supervising the soup in the kitchen, came out and saw this scene.
Before he could be surprised, he heard Charles say, "Jacob, take Benjamin and the dog outside to play. Ms. Wipere and I have something to discuss."
Benjamin was mentioned, and his reaction was identical to Snowy's. One barked, while the other said, "I want to listen too. I won't disturb you."
Jacob glanced at the tense atmosphere between the two. They probably argued?
But Charles seemed rational enough, so it shouldn't be a big deal.
He smiled and approached Benjamin, "Benjamin, let's go outside. The adults have something to discuss."
Benjamin was anxious, shaking his head, "I'm not that young. I'm already four. What can't I hear?"
Diana, standing at the staircase, turned her head and said, "Benjamin, go play outside. Mr. Percy and I have something to discuss."
They might end up fighting, and if blood was spilled, it would traumatize the child.
Benjamin didn't usually listen to others, but he obeyed his mommy.
Just when everyone thought he would make a fuss, Benjamin pouted and walked outside.
"Alright then."
Jacob quickly nodded to the two, then followed Benjamin, comforting his little wounded heart.
Once they left, Diana and Charles stood face to face. Diana spoke first, "What do you want to talk about?"
Since their argument at the hospital, they had been silent on the way back.
Diana thought they would give each other the cold shoulder for a while, but now it seemed they were ready to settle accounts.
Apparently, the ride was for building up anger.
Charles glanced at her, snorted coldly, "What is there to discuss between us?"
Diana was puzzled.
Her expression twisted for a moment, confirming she hadn't misheard, and she snapped, "Didn't you say we should talk? Why did you send them away?"
"I don't want to see him. What's wrong with that? It's my house, can't I make decisions?"
"Fine, you can make decisions. Then I'll leave too."
Seeing his erratic attitude, Diana was furious. Staying here would be like a childish argument, with no resolution.
She took two steps forward, but Charles silently blocked her way. She moved left, he moved left. She moved right, he moved right.
"You're crazy."
Diana muttered, not wanting to argue, and turned to go upstairs.
Charles, after his outburst, followed her silently like a ghost.
Just as she was about to close the door, he reached out and blocked it.
Luckily, Diana was quick and didn't slam his hand. She looked at him impatiently, "What do you want now?"
"Did I allow you to leave?"
Diana took a deep breath. Why was Charles being so difficult? He didn't act like this before.
"Mr. Percy, what do you want? My time is valuable too."
Charles' face remained stern, his eyes burning with anger, but he didn't speak. They stood in a stalemate.
Diana took a deep breath, let go of the door handle, crossed her arms, and tried to calm her attitude.
"Mr. Percy, why don't you come in? I'll make you some tea."
Charles' lips pressed into a thin line, and he squeezed past her into the room.
Diana rolled her eyes but still made him some herbal tea.
They sat facing each other on the sofa, like a negotiation table.
"Mr. Percy, if you have something to say, now's the time. It's just the two of us."
After all the fuss, Diana felt calm and even took a sip of her tea.
Charles frowned, his eyes narrowed.
After a long pause, he said, "The White family was wrong. I taught them a lesson for you. Instead of thanking me, you defended them?"
"You did it for me?"
Diana's expression changed slightly, surprised.
So he stood up for her? She thought Charles just disliked the White family and used her incident as an excuse.
"You didn't realize?"
Charles was genuinely amused, feeling like all his efforts were wasted.
"I just thought I wasn't that important to you. You didn't need to stand up for me."
Charles hadn't seen her slap Stella. Diana always avenged herself, no need for him to intervene.
"And I think, as a celebrity, now that you've broken off the engagement, she's probably a target. Leave some room for reconciliation; you never know when you might meet again. Why be so harsh on her?"
