Chapter 418 Night Talk

Eugene wasn't exactly a pro at comforting people, and Charles didn't feel much better after hearing him out.

Seeing Charles still looking down, Eugene clicked his tongue in frustration and dragged him out to the balcony.

There was already food and drinks set up there.

Since Charles was still recovering, the alcohol was pretty mild, more like a soft drink for him.

"Come on, compared to those potbellied businessmen, you're doing pretty well. If Diana was really into looks, she would've remarried long ago after leaving you."

As soon as Eugene said this, Charles' face darkened, and he frowned at him.

Seeing this, Eugene raised his hands in a "just being honest" gesture.

He added, "Look, she's been alone for the past five years. That proves she doesn't care about that stuff."

"She doesn't care about that stuff, and she doesn't care about me either."

Charles' expression was bitter, like a dog that had been abandoned, torn between wanting to return to its owner and hating her for leaving, itching to bite back for revenge.

Eugene ignored his comment and poured him a drink, pushing it towards him.

"Alright, Mr. Percy, enough with the pity party. Let's talk business. How's that three hundred million dollars situation going?"

Charles' expression turned serious at the reminder.

"The last IP address was traced to the Percy Mansion. The staff have all been checked, and there's no one suspicious."

The household staff were either long-time employees or professionally trained newcomers. If any of them had the skills of a hacker, they wouldn't be working as servants for the Percy family.

Rather than believing someone had been hiding in the Percy Mansion for years just to steal three hundred million dollars, Charles was more inclined to think the IP address was a taunt from the culprit.

"Not to be rude, but what about Jacob? Did you check him?"

"Jacob's not possible. If it were him, then there's no one left in the house to trust."

Eugene picked up his glass and chuckled, "Isn't that how it always goes on TV? The least likely person is the mastermind."

"Eugene, if you have time to watch TV, maybe you should help your brother with the company. By your logic, the most likely suspect would be the four-year-old kid in the house."

Charles retorted sarcastically.

Meanwhile, at the Percy Mansion.

Benjamin was nestled in Diana's arms, whispering secrets in the room.

He rubbed his nose and muttered, "What's going on? Is someone thinking about me?"

Diana pinched his cheek playfully.

"Maybe Dean misses you."

"I miss him too."

Benjamin sighed, sounding like a little adult.

Dean usually seemed all over the place, but he was patient with kids. When Diana was busy working abroad, it was Dean who spent time playing with Benjamin.

They spent their time playing and studying various codes. Benjamin had a natural talent for it, finding interest in codes that even adults found headache-inducing.

Diana knew about his talent, attributing it to genetics. She had kept Benjamin because of Charles' strong genes.

Objectively speaking, both she and Charles had impressive genes, excelling in their respective fields, so it was no surprise Benjamin was exceptional too.

But Benjamin was too smart, always thinking a lot. Keeping him with Charles all the time would definitely affect his personality.

Thinking of this, Diana pursed her lips.

"Benjamin, we're going back at the end of this month."

Benjamin was taken aback. There was less than half a month until the end of the month. Had Dean already arranged everything?

"So soon?"

"Why? Isn't sooner better? Don't you want to go home?" Diana asked.

He quickly shook his head, but his mind wandered to what Jacob had said before and the engraving on the crib.

After a moment, he mumbled softly, "Mommy, I don't think Mr. Percy is that bad."

Diana was surprised, her expression growing serious.

Seeing her reaction, Benjamin felt a bit panicked and quickly clarified, "I didn't mean it like that. I used to think he was a big bad guy. But now that I've stayed here, it's not so scary."

Diana's serious expression wasn't out of anger.

She hadn't hidden from Benjamin who his father was, but she avoided talking about him, only saying a few harmless words when necessary.

Benjamin's understanding of Charles mostly came from Dean and media reports.

Maybe after living in the Percy Mansion, the real Charles had changed his perception.

"What do you think now? I want to hear." Diana looked at him, not missing any change in his expression.

Seeing his hesitation, she added, "I'm not angry, sweetheart. We're having an equal discussion. Or let me ask you this, do you want to stay here?"

Benjamin quickly shook his head, explaining, "I just want to be with you, Mommy."

He was young, but not stupid. After living with Diana for so many years, there was no way he would suddenly switch sides because of Charles.

He just wished his mommy could talk to Charles, but it seemed like there was a wall between them, and neither wanted to be the one to climb over it.

Benjamin's heart raced as a plan formed in his mind. He looked up and said, "Mommy, can I have my birthday here?"

Diana was reminded that his birthday was just a few days before they were supposed to leave.

Seeing the hopeful sparkle in Benjamin's eyes, Diana's heart softened. He probably wanted to spend his birthday with his dad.

"Okay."

Benjamin's eyes lit up, and he hugged Diana's neck, showering her with sweet words. "Thank you, Mommy. You're the best."

Diana laughed and pulled him off her. "You have to ask him yourself. If he agrees, then it's a deal."

"Okay!"

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, followed by Jacob's urgent voice. "Ms. Wipere, are you awake?"

Benjamin quickly got out of Diana's arms and answered, "Mr. Hearst, we're awake. Come in."

The next second, Jacob opened the door but didn't enter the room. He stood at the doorway and said, "Mr. Percy is back, but he's drunk. He needs your care, Ms. Wipere."

Diana frowned, feeling it was absurd. Charles had stormed out after their argument, only to go get drunk?

Diana replied, "Can't someone else take care of him? There are plenty of servants in the house, right?"

Jacob stepped in a bit, looking apologetic and unsure how to explain. "Ms. Wipere, you should come down and see for yourself."
