Chapter 339 Past Events

As soon as the elevator started, Stella's face fell.

She had overheard part of what those people were saying, and it was the same old story—how much she resembled Diana, the woman who had died five years ago.

Everyone around Stella knew that being compared to Diana was a sore spot for her. Even her assistant and Donny avoided the topic.

But no matter what, as long as she was by Charles' side, people would constantly compare her to Diana.

The elevator reached the top floor.

Stella composed herself, putting on a sweet smile.

Outside the CEO's office, Claire was at her desk. Her expression changed the moment she saw Stella.

If there was anyone Claire hated more than Diana, it was Stella.

Back then, she had manipulated Clara into getting on the ship, ultimately leading to Diana's death.

But with Diana gone, Stella had appeared, flaunting a face that looked so much like Diana's, always hovering around Charles.

If she had known it would turn out like this, she might have just gotten plastic surgery to look like Diana herself.

Claire despised Stella from the bottom of her heart. 'Just a substitute. Let's see who has the last laugh.

"Ms. Murphy, I'm here to see Mr. Percy."

Stella had been in the entertainment industry long enough to recognize that Claire didn't like her, but it didn't matter. She was the only woman by Charles' side now.

Because of this, Stella spoke to Claire with a hint of arrogance.

Claire looked up and said coldly, "Mr. Percy is still in a meeting. Please wait in the guest room, Ms. White."

"No problem, I'll wait in his office. That way, he can see me as soon as the meeting is over," Stella said considerately.

Claire looked at her, pursing her lips in disapproval. "Ms. White, this is a company, not your home. Even we can't just go into Mr. Percy's office. If you see any confidential information, it could be a problem."

She continued, "Please turn right to the guest room. Someone will bring you tea and snacks shortly."

Stella's expression froze, and she looked like she was about to cry.

"Ms. Murphy, I'm Mr. Percy's girlfriend. How could you think that of me?"

Anyone else might have been fooled by her pitiful look.

But unfortunately for her, Claire was the one sitting across from her. Claire raised an eyebrow and waved her hand dismissively.

"Enough. I'm just doing my job. If Mr. Percy were here, you could go in. But he's in a meeting, so the guest room will have to do."

Before Stella could respond, a male voice came from behind her.

"Ms. White, what are you doing here? Weren't you supposed to go home?"

Nolan had just sent a gift to Stella's place, only to find her at the CEO's office door. He was a bit surprised.

Stella turned around and explained, "I just got off the plane and was bored at home, so I came to bring Charles some food. He probably hasn't eaten yet, right?"

"That's right."

"I knew it." Stella frowned, looking helpless. She lifted the bag she was carrying. "I brought him lunch. I'll leave after he eats."

Nolan looked at Stella, his eyes deepening as if he was contemplating something.

"Alright, I'll take you in."

The two of them completely ignored Claire, who couldn't help but speak up, "Did you forget I'm here?"

"Nolan, Mr. Percy is in a meeting. Are you going to let Ms. White wait alone in his office?"

Nolan paused, thinking for a moment.

"I'll go notify Mr. Percy first. Ms. White, please wait in the guest room."

With that, he nodded slightly and headed to the meeting room.

Even with Nolan's help, she couldn't go into the office alone. This exclusion made Stella feel very uncomfortable.

Claire, on the other hand, looked smug, as if to say, "See? I told you, no entry."

Stella bit her lip, suppressing her annoyance, and walked into the guest room with her bag.

Nolan had just reached the meeting room door when someone came out.

The meeting had just ended, and it seemed Charles hadn't lost his temper. Everyone looked normal and even smiled at Nolan as they passed.

Nolan nodded to each of them before entering and approaching Charles.

Charles was casually flipping through some documents. When he saw Nolan, he stopped and gave him a questioning look.

"Mr. Percy, Ms. White is here."

Nolan lowered his head slightly, delivering the message.

Charles' expression remained indifferent, showing none of the sweetness one might expect from a boyfriend seeing his girlfriend.

He put away the documents and then got up, heading back to his office.

Stella came out of the guest room, joyfully pushing open the office door.

The large office was decorated in black and white, exuding an oppressive and cold atmosphere, much like the feeling Charles gave others.

"Charles, I brought you lunch."

Her voice had a hint of flattery as she placed the food she had prepared in front of him.

"Okay."

Charles didn't even look up, responding briefly before continuing to work on his computer.

Stella's heart ached unexpectedly. Even after three years, she still couldn't get used to Charles' attitude towards her.

She took a deep breath, suppressing her disappointment, and sat on the couch.

Her phone buzzed with notifications. The trending topic was "Stella and Charles to Marry Soon."

Stella looked at the various comments and couldn't help but glance at Charles.

Last week, she had attended an award ceremony in Elverton.

The host had asked her when she planned to schedule the wedding, given that she and Charles had been dating for three years.

Stella had blushed and replied that it would be soon.

Entertainment news outlets had then gone wild, spreading stories about their upcoming wedding and even retelling their love story.

But in reality, Charles had never proposed to her, nor had he mentioned marriage.

With all the buzz outside, Stella thought Charles would call her, but he hadn't.

Even now, standing in front of him, he hadn't asked her about it.

She wanted to ask Charles directly about his thoughts, but she was afraid of angering him.

From the beginning, their relationship had been unequal. Or rather, there was no real love between them.

Three years ago.

The White family was on the brink of bankruptcy, and Stella, who had been studying abroad, was forced to return home.

Her goal was to find a wealthy husband who could save the White family.

Stella attended various high-society events, meeting many men.

But they were either too ugly, too old, or too shrewd.

During her school years, Stella had dated many handsome guys, but when it came to marriage, she cared more about power.

However, everyone in their circle knew about the White family's situation and looked down on her for flaunting herself.

But Stella was indeed beautiful. Some men were willing to keep her as a mistress, though they had no interest in helping the White family.

Just when Stella thought she would have to marry an old man as his third wife, she met Charles at a party.
