Chapter 389 Change
Nolan nodded, making a mental note of the situation. He had always suspected that Charles' sudden decision to break off his engagement was due to the appearance of "that woman."
But Charles had never once asked him to investigate her background. He accepted this woman, who bore a striking resemblance to Diana, very quickly.
Nolan hesitated for a moment before speaking up, "Mr. Percy, do you want me to look into that lady's background? We don't really know where she came from..."
"Nolan."
Charles looked up, cutting him off.
Being addressed directly made Nolan a bit flustered. "Yes, Mr. Percy?"
"Are you bored lately? Do you need me to find something for you to do?"
"Sorry, Mr. Percy, I overstepped."
Sensing Charles' anger, Nolan quickly apologized.
After speaking, he hurriedly tried to leave the office, but Charles' voice followed him.
"Get the car ready. We're heading home."
Nolan paused, glancing at the time. It was only four in the afternoon.
"Now?"
"Do I need to repeat myself?"
"No, I'll get right on it."
Suppressing his shock, Nolan quickly left the CEO's office.
Outside, Abigail noticed his unusual expression and couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong? Did Mr. Percy chew you out?"
As she spoke, she handed him a throat lozenge.
Nolan took it, unwrapped it, and popped it into his mouth, feeling a bit calmer. "No, it's just that Mr. Percy wants to leave work early."
"Leave early? Does he have something to do?"
Abigail's eyes widened with curiosity written all over her face.
Nolan shook his head. "If he had something to do, I wouldn't be surprised. He just wants to go home."
"That's nice. At least we can relax a bit."
Abigail smiled and returned to her desk.
Nolan noticed the empty space beside her and asked, "Where's Ms. Murphy?"
"No idea. Maybe she went home too."
Abigail didn't seem to care much. She had known from the start that Claire got the job because of her connection with Charles. Over time, she also noticed that Claire seemed to have feelings for Charles.
Abigail felt a bit sorry for her. Of all people, why did she have to fall for Charles?
Five years had passed, and Charles was about to get married, while Claire was still just a secretary.
Nolan sighed. Compared to Charles, he envied Claire more.
"Alright, I have to get going. You keep up the good work."
"Sure thing."At the Percy Mansion.
Diana had just finished "her breakfast" and was taking a walk in the garden with Benjamin to help with digestion.
The servants followed at a distance, so they spoke in low voices.
"Mommy, why did you sleep so long? Did you stay up late last night?"
"No, I was just really tired."
Not wanting Benjamin to worry, she smiled and ruffled his hair.
Benjamin pouted, understanding why she was tired. He kicked a pebble at his feet.
"Mommy, can we really go back?"
"Of course. I've already asked Dean to prepare everything. But first, I need to get you out of here."
Diana had kept it a secret, fearing Benjamin couldn't keep it. Now that she told him, he was overjoyed.
Sure enough, Benjamin's eyes lit up, and he hugged Diana's waist tightly. "That's great! We can go home!"
Not far away, Jacob watched their interaction with a puzzled expression.
He had spent enough time with Benjamin to know that he wasn't the type to warm up to strangers quickly.
How had he become so close to "Ms. Wipere" in such a short time?
Before he could think further, a servant hurried over and whispered, "Jacob, Mr. Percy is back."
Jacob quickly headed to the front hall, instructing the servant to inform Diana and Benjamin as well.
In the front hall, Charles lounged on the sofa, looking relaxed.
He only turned his head when he heard footsteps. Seeing it was Jacob, he looked away again.
"Jacob."
"Mr. Percy, why are you back so early? Do you need something?"
Jacob looked Charles over, relieved to see he seemed fine.
"Nothing much. Just finished work early. Where are they?"
Charles glanced around, not seeing the familiar faces, and felt a bit irritated.
They didn't come to greet him? What was that about?
Jacob understood immediately who "they" referred to and quickly explained, "Ms. Wipere is taking Benjamin for a walk in the garden. I've sent someone to call them."
Charles nodded, his gaze drifting to the hallway.
Soon, the sound of laughter echoed, and two figures appeared at the door.
Benjamin, seeing Charles, greeted him warmly, "Hi, Mr. Percy."
Charles nodded, his eyes shifting to Diana.
Sensing his gaze, Diana looked down awkwardly. "Mr. Percy."
Why was he back so early? Did something happen? Last time it was about shaving, what now?
She seriously doubted his previous frail appearance was genuine, given how quickly he returned to work.
"How was your day, Ms. Wipere?"
His lips curled into a smile, his gaze lingering on her.
This greeting was so out of character for Charles that Diana blinked, pausing before replying, "Mr. Percy, I had a good day."
"That's good."
His smile deepened, looking almost sinister.
Benjamin jumped off the sofa, puzzled. "Mr. Percy, why didn't you ask me?"
Charles ignored him, tilting his head slightly.
Jacob understood and took Benjamin's hand, coaxing, "Benjamin, Mr. Percy and Ms. Wipere need to discuss grown-up matters. Let's go play."
"No, I'm not a kid anymore! I'm already five!"
Benjamin stood his ground, feeling that nothing good would come from Diana being alone with Charles.
"Mr. Percy, do you need my help with something? You seem well enough to go to the office every day."
Diana's eyes were serious. If he was fully recovered, she should leave.
"Jacob, take Benjamin away."
Charles didn't answer her, instead urging Jacob and Benjamin to leave.
Benjamin wanted to protest but stopped when Diana subtly nodded at him. He obediently followed Jacob out.
The servants also left, and Diana frowned slightly, looking up.
"Mr. Percy, what do you want to say? Everyone's gone now. You can speak."
She crossed her arms, looking defensive.
"The wound isn't healed yet. You still need to change my bandages."
As he spoke, Charles began unbuttoning his shirt.
Diana's eyes widened, and she quickly stopped him.
"Not here!"
The living room was large, and the servants could see. What was he thinking?
Charles paused, raising an eyebrow.
"Then where?"
