Chapter 255 I Can't Cook

Pregnant women tend to get hungry easily, and Diana hadn't eaten much today. Now, lying down on an empty stomach was bad for her and the baby.

Diana paused in her steps but didn't turn around. Her voice was cold and firm. "I'm not hungry."

"Fine, if you don't eat, then Evelyn will go hungry tonight too."

Charles knew exactly how to hit her where it hurt and didn't hesitate to use it to his advantage.

Sure enough, upon hearing this, Diana clenched her fists and stood still. But remembering what Evelyn had said, she turned back and walked over to him.

Charles felt a bit better and pulled Diana's arm, repeating, "As long as you behave, Evelyn will be fine."

Diana frowned and scoffed, "Shameless!"

But Charles acted as if he didn't hear her, pulling her to sit down.

Jacob didn't dare delay and quickly instructed the servants to bring out the food.

Most of it was made by Evelyn, perfectly suited to Diana's taste. But at this moment, she found the food tasteless and unappealing.

She took a couple of bites and then put down her utensils, saying, "I'm full."

Charles glanced at her and placed a piece of beef on her plate, "Eat some more."

Diana pressed her lips together, silently resisting.

He wasn't in a hurry and added a piece of ribs to her plate, continuing, "Or else Evelyn..."

That trick again!

Diana's fists tightened, her nails digging into her palms, the pain keeping her grounded. She took a deep breath, calming herself down. This situation wouldn't last long, and resistance was futile.

After a moment, she regained her composure, picked up her plate, and moved a bit further from Charles, refusing his attempts to feed her.

She picked up the beef and angrily chewed it, imagining it was Charles, venting her frustration.

Seeing her eat, Charles didn't push further. Once they had both eaten enough, he finally spoke, "I won't be home for dinner tomorrow."

Diana didn't respond, and the dining room fell into a brief silence.

Jacob broke the silence, "Should we prepare something to send over?"

"No need, I want her to cook."

Diana turned her head, incredulously pointing at herself, "Me?"

Charles nodded, and she raised her voice, "You're dreaming. I can't cook!"

"Really? When we got married, you loved making 'love' lunches. Suddenly, you can't cook anymore?"

Charles emphasized the word "love," clearly not believing her.

Diana rolled her eyes. That was the old Diana, not her. Besides, he had thrown all those meals away without taking a single bite!

"You threw them all away before. And my cooking is terrible."

"Jacob will supervise, and the servants will help. I want to eat a meal you cooked yourself tomorrow."

Charles stood up slowly, tapping the table twice to issue his final ultimatum.

Diana, defiant, slammed the table, startling the servants.

"Jacob, go buy some rat poison. I'll add a special ingredient for Mr. Percy."

Jacob wiped his sweat and forced a smile, "Ms. Spencer, you have such a sense of humor. Mr. Percy, don't worry, we'll prepare everything."

Diana wanted to curse more, but seeing Jacob's pleading eyes, she held back.

After Charles went upstairs, Jacob whispered, "Ms. Spencer, Mr. Percy just wants to get closer to you. He means no harm."

"Who cares?" Diana rolled her eyes and stood up to go upstairs. She took a couple of steps, then remembered tomorrow's task and turned back.

"I told you I can't cook. You handle the ingredients yourselves."

Jacob sighed. Their relationship was really complicated. He could see that Charles was gradually accepting Diana, but his methods were clearly wrong. Diana was like a bird longing for freedom, not one to be caged.

That night, Diana opened her tablet and messaged Dean.

A: [How's the investigation going? I can't take it anymore. I want to leave immediately.]

Dean was eating when he saw her message, almost choking on his food.

She had never complained about their tough missions before. Why the sudden urge to escape now?

Dean: [What's wrong? I'll come get you out right now.]

He pulled out his phone, ready to see what connections he could use.

Diana took a deep breath, calming herself before replying: [Never mind, let's stick to the plan. How's the investigation going?]

Dean: [I've roughly identified the target. It's an internal power struggle within the Percy family. Stay home for now.]

He sent over a document.

Diana opened it and saw a family tree. She blinked and smiled. Charles' family dynamics were quite complicated. It seemed her unborn child was seen as a potential threat by Elise Percy.

Dean: [That old woman is ruthless. I've got someone watching her. Be careful.]

A: [No need. If she tries to harm me, don't stop her. In fact, help her out.]

Dean was puzzled. Had Diana lost her mind, waiting to be harmed?

Diana guessed his thoughts and added: [Charles is tough to deal with. It's better to use Elise to get away completely.]

Dean stroked his chin, understanding her plan.

Dean: [Alright, I'll arrange it. But stay safe.]

A: [This plan must succeed.]

Dean: [Mission accepted.]

Diana closed her tablet and sighed. Charles was indeed difficult to handle. Escaping would require careful planning.

A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. Thinking it was Jacob, she called out, "Come in."

But after hearing footsteps, no one spoke. Diana looked up to see Charles standing by the bed, freshly showered, wearing light gray pajamas, his hair neatly combed, giving him a softer appearance.

Diana's heart raced, her voice rising, "What are you doing?"

Charles said nothing, lifting the blanket to get into bed. She grabbed the edge of the blanket forcefully, trying to stop him.

"Get out, this is my bed!"

Charles pulled the blanket, his strength far greater than hers, his voice cold, "This is my house."

The next second, Diana yelped as she lost her grip on the bed. She pushed against Charles, but he didn't budge, as if nailed to the bed.

"Charles, are you crazy? You have your own room!"

"So what? I'm sleeping here. You like to sleepwalk; this way you won't wander over."

Charles stared at the ceiling, speaking calmly.

Diana paused, her face blushing, finally retorting, "That was an accident."

Seeing she couldn't move him, she stood up, huffing, "Fine, sleep here if you want. I can't deal with you. I'm leaving."

She stepped on Charles, trying to crush him. Unfortunately, as soon as her foot touched him, he grabbed it, holding her in place. "You're sleeping here too."
