Chapter 95 Kidnapping
Diana was taken aback by Isolde's words but kept her cool and asked, "What's going on? Where are you? I'll come get you!"
Isolde replied, "I'm at your place." Hearing that, Diana grabbed her coat and dashed home.
On the way, Isolde tearfully filled her in. At one point, Robert had to take over the phone because Isolde was crying too hard. From their conversation, Diana got the full story.
A few days ago, while Diana was busy tailing Charles, Isolde got a threatening message. The sender had pictures of Cecil and Evelyn playing, demanding $30 million, or Cecil would vanish.
Isolde immediately thought it was a competitor and brought Cecil back from the Spencer Villa to keep him safe. But this morning, she had an important meeting, so she sent Cecil to daycare. When she finished, the daycare told her someone had already picked up Cecil. Then she got another threatening message, this time with a hand on Cecil's neck.
The message read: [Don't call the police. I've warned you. If you don't pay $30 million, then pay $300 million for your son's life!]
In the photo, Cecil's eyes were closed, his face pale, and the hand on his neck was huge.
Isolde fainted but came to, thinking about Cecil still in danger. She called David to help find Cecil secretly and then rushed to the Spencer Villa to seek Diana's help.
When Diana got home, Isolde was holding Evelyn and crying. Seeing Diana, she threw herself into Diana's arms. "What should I do, Diana? Cecil is my life! Who took my Cecil?"
Diana, slightly out of breath, patted Isolde's back and asked, "Do you still have the message? Have you talked to them?"
Isolde choked up and couldn't speak, so Robert stepped in, handing over her phone with a serious look. "I talked to him a bit. This guy is hard to deal with and threatened to kill the kid if we call the cops. He's after money."
Robert paused, looking guilty, and continued, "It seems like this guy has an informant in the villa. I think it might be one of the bodyguards. We should talk somewhere else."
Diana's face stayed calm. "Since it's about money, we have a chance. Isolde, do you have $300 million?"
Isolde shook her head. $300 million was the entire revenue of the Porter Group. She could only come up with $70 million right now.
Realizing how crazy her question was, Diana immediately called Billy. As soon as he picked up, she said, "Billy, can you lend me $300 million?"
Billy, who had answered with a smile, was stunned by Diana's request. Without asking why, he hesitated and said, "I only have $100 million. I'll help you borrow the rest."
"No need, $100 million will do. I'll figure out the rest," Diana said, about to hang up. She then remembered she hadn't explained why she needed the money and added, "Isolde's kid has been kidnapped. The kidnapper wants $300 million ransom. I had no choice but to ask you. Thanks, Billy."
Billy was shocked. He remembered that Cecil was still too young to walk and had been kidnapped. Billy asked, "Where are you? I'll come and help. My dad's an officer; he can help."
Diana didn't hesitate. In a life-and-death situation, she should use whatever resources she had. She replied, "Okay, come to my place."
The next second, Billy realized he might not be much help and said, "I'll go straight to my dad. Send me any useful info, and we'll work separately."
They ended the call quickly, and Diana asked Robert to send the information to Billy. She then held her phone, deep in thought. Isolde, with tearful eyes, was being comforted by Evelyn nearby.
Suddenly, Diana looked up with a determined gaze, as if she had made up her mind.
Diana: [Nolan, I need to talk to Mr. Percy. I need his help; please convey this message for me.]
Luckily, the message went through, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
At the Percy Group, Nolan was leisurely sipping coffee. With no need to hassle the Spencer Group lately, his workload had lightened, and he was in a good mood.
The next second, his phone buzzed with a message. He opened it and almost spat out his coffee.
'Diana? Oh right, since Charles spared the Spencer Group, I took her off the blacklist. But recently, Charles has been pretty chill and hasn't caused any trouble. What could Diana want?' Nolan wondered.
In the past, Nolan might have ignored the message. But lately, Charles had been very interested in the dynamics between Billy and Diana, so Nolan felt this was no small matter.
He quickly went to the CEO's office to report to Charles. There were only two possible outcomes: either Charles would be interested, or he would tell him to get lost.
Nolan's approach was spot on. As soon as Charles heard that Diana needed something, he put down his documents, looking at Nolan with a "tell me more" expression.
Nolan swallowed and reported truthfully, "Ms. Spencer only said she needed something. I didn't have time to ask for specifics."
Charles's expression visibly darkened. Nolan was so scared that he immediately called Diana. "I'll ask her now."
Diana didn't expect Nolan to call back so quickly. She answered sincerely, "Nolan, can you help me ask Mr. Percy? I really need his help."
On the other end, Nolan was silent. After about ten seconds, a deep, pleasant voice came through, "What do you need from me?"
It was Charles. Diana paused, and the three people in the room with her looked at her nervously. Indeed, Charles was probably the only one who could come up with that much money at once.
Seeing Diana go to such lengths for her, Isolde couldn't help but sob quietly again.
"Hello? Speak up, where are you?" Charles, holding Nolan's phone, grew impatient when he didn't hear Diana's voice.
Diana snapped back to reality. "Mr. Percy. Thank you for taking the time to answer my call despite your busy schedule."
Charles, hearing her flattering tone, couldn't help but smile slightly. "Well, what's the matter?"
"It's like this. My good friend, Isolde, do you remember her? Her child has been kidnapped. The kidnappers are asking for $300 million. We don't have that much money, but I thought of you, wealthy and handsome as you are. So, I want to ask if I can borrow the money."
Charles raised an eyebrow, sounding a bit surprised. "$300 million? Diana, you really dare to ask."
Thinking he was unwilling, Diana quickly explained, "No, $200 million will do. We'll pay it back. We just need to lure the kidnappers out."
"Oh? Do you have $100 million?" Charles asked.
"No, but I borrowed it from Billy," Diana answered honestly.
The other end of the line went quiet for a moment before Charles's icy voice cut through, "Then keep borrowing from him."
He hung up right after, not giving Diana a chance to say anything.
Nolan, who was nearby, watched Charles's face twist with anger as he slammed the phone down. He had no clue what was going on.
Looked like Diana had pissed Charles off again. Nolan figured it was best to make himself scarce, so he prepared to take his phone and exit the CEO's office. But Charles shot him a look and set his phone on the desk.
Not even a minute later, the phone started buzzing. Charles let it ring for a bit before slowly turning on the speakerphone, "Hello."
