Chapter 134 Surveillance
Diana, hearing Evelyn's voice, instantly woke up. "Evelyn? You're here? Why don't you come over? Come!"
Seeing the time, it was already dusk.
Charles had only sent her over at this hour, showing how little he cared about the matter.
But for Diana, having Evelyn by her side was good enough.
Following Diana's voice, Evelyn ran to the bedside.
Seeing Diana's thin face and worried eyes, she couldn't hold back and burst into tears.
Diana quickly sat up and opened her arms, indicating that Evelyn could cry in her embrace.
Although Evelyn felt wronged, she remembered the baby in Diana's belly and didn't dare to press down on her too hard.
The two hugged each other tightly. Evelyn was crying so hard that her tears soaked Diana's hospital gown. Her voice was all choked up. "Ms. Spencer, I almost thought I'd never see you again."
After saying that, Evelyn took a deep breath, trying to calm down, but it didn't really work.
Diana gently stroked the back of Evelyn's head, knowing how worried she had been these past few days.
Her heart softened, and she whispered, "Alright, it's all over now. You see me now, don't you? Don't cry anymore, or your eyes will get all puffy and won't look good."
Evelyn pulled away from Diana's embrace, her tear-filled eyes scanning Diana up and down in a hurry. "Ms. Spencer, are you okay? Why are you in the hospital? It's only been a few days since we last saw each other, and you've already lost weight."
Diana raised her arm and struck a muscle-flexing pose, smiling as she said, "I'm really fine, but the baby inside me isn't doing too well, so I'm here to rest."
Evelyn's expression changed, and she momentarily forgot to cry. She whispered, "Ms. Spencer, didn't you not want to have this baby? Why are you still..."
Diana appeared calm, but the slight downturn of her mouth betrayed her feelings.
"Charles found out about the baby. I didn't want to have it, so he went after you guys. I'm sorry, Evelyn, it's all..."
Evelyn quickly covered Diana's mouth, staring into her eyes, and said seriously, "Ms. Spencer, don't say that. Robert and I are happy to be with you. You've suffered a lot these days, haven't you?"
Diana's eyes welled up, but she quickly lowered her head to hide her expression from Evelyn.
A soft, gentle hand patted Diana's back, and Evelyn's voice was soothing. "It's okay, Ms. Spencer. We're all on your side. If you have to have this baby, I'll make sure to take good care of them!"
Listening to Evelyn's innocent words, Diana decided not to tell her the specifics of the agreement.
Diana wiped away her tears and asked, "Where have you been these days?"
Evelyn suddenly paused, her lips tightly pressed together. "Mr. Percy sent me to a place called Mirage Nights Club. He had the manager there teach me how to serve guests."
After Evelyn said this, Diana was furious.
Diana couldn't bear to think that if she hadn't signed the contract with Charles, Evelyn, who was desperate and had no family, might have been influenced by such an environment.
"Disgusting bastard, Charles, you deserve to go to hell," Diana cursed under her breath, her eyes filled with anger.
Seeing Diana's reaction, Evelyn quickly hugged her neck and comforted her, "Ms. Spencer, I'm fine. Before I joined the Spencer Family, I did all kinds of dirty and hard work. It's nothing to me."
Evelyn's eyes revealed an innocence that didn't belong to her age.
Diana held Evelyn's hand, feeling its warmth, and finally managed to suppress her violent emotions.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Evelyn quickly let go of Diana and sat up straight, looking a bit nervous.
"Who is it?" Diana asked.
Brenda's voice answered, "It's time to eat, Ms. Spencer."
"Come in."
Brenda pushed a small food cart into the word, followed by Nolan and a burly man in black.
Seeing the two, Diana frowned. "What are you doing here?"
Nolan glanced at his watch and, without much explanation, coldly said, "Supervising."
With that, the man in black walked to the TV beside the hospital bed and took out a toolbox. In the silence, he installed a surveillance camera.
The cold machine emitted a red light, rotating and somewhat glaring.
Diana frowned in displeasure and urged. "Are you done?"
The man remained silent, leaning in to whisper something to Nolan.
Nolan glanced at the camera and then at Diana. He said in a deep voice, "It's done. Mr. Percy says to take good care of yourself, Ms. Spencer."
With that, Nolan and the man in black left the room.
The three women were left in silence.
Evelyn could tell it was a surveillance camera. She hadn't expected Diana to be monitored under Charles's control.
Evelyn bit her lip, looking downcast and helpless.
Diana, however, stared directly at the camera, her gaze unfriendly.
Brenda broke the silence. "You must be Evelyn, right? Ms. Spencer has been talking about you for a long time. It's good that you're finally here."
Evelyn looked up at Brenda's voice, her tone a bit timid. "Yes, hello."
Diana also shifted her gaze, no longer looking at the camera, trying to forget its presence.
Brenda stepped forward and unfolded the small table, gently laying out the dishes one by one as she spoke softly, "Now that someone familiar is here, Ms. Spencer, you should take better care of yourself. These are new dishes from the kitchen. Starting tomorrow, I'll add an extra bowl of medicinal soup. Ms. Spencer, you must drink it all."
Evelyn watched Brenda arranging the dishes and quickly stepped in to help. Diana's food needed special attention.
Diana thanked her softly, but she didn't have much of an appetite.
Brenda, being very considerate, knew that Diana and Evelyn had a lot to talk about since they had just reunited.
Therefore, Brenda didn't stay long. After setting up the food and giving a few instructions, she left the room.
"Ms. Spencer, who is she?"
"Dr. Ramos. You'll be seeing her a lot from now on," Diana answered lightly, dividing her food in half and placing it in front of Evelyn.
Evelyn was still thinking about Brenda and muttered, "So she's a doctor. She seems very nice."
Seeing Diana's action, Evelyn quickly waved her hand in refusal. "Ms. Spencer, this is your food. How can I eat it? You eat it. I'm not hungry."
Diana smiled slightly and placed a piece of meat on Evelyn's plate. "Eat with me. I can't finish all this. Besides, I'm pregnant now. If I get hungry, there's always food available."
Evelyn smelled the aroma of the food, and her mouth couldn't help but water.
Hearing Diana's words, she didn't hold back anymore. "Then I'll start eating? Ms. Spencer, you eat too!"
"Okay." Diana watched as Evelyn put the piece of meat into her mouth, her eyes instantly lighting up with delight.
"Ms. Spencer! This is so delicious!" With that, Evelyn quickly handed a piece to Diana.
Under Evelyn's expectant gaze, Diana obediently put the meat into her mouth.
To her, it wasn't anything special, not as good as Evelyn's cooking.
But seeing Evelyn's expectant eyes, Diana still smiled. "Really, it's very good."
Originally, she didn't have much of an appetite, but seeing Evelyn eat so happily and occasionally making her laugh, Diana ended up eating quite a bit.
The two of them finished all the food. Diana called someone to clean up and asked for some women's toiletries and clothes to be brought over.
Since Evelyn was here, she would definitely stay with her. Adding an extra bed was no big deal.
After all, there were Charles' people everywhere, so she might as well use them.
The camera beside the TV subtly turned, always focusing on Diana's position.
At the Percy Group, Charles had just finished a shareholders' meeting. It was late, but he didn't want to go home.
He decided to sleep at the office tonight.
After washing up, Charles didn't continue working. Instead, he looked out at the night view of Evergreen City.
The night was colorful, and the streets were bustling. He lit a cigarette.
Charles' face was somewhat obscured by the smoke. The next second, he opened the app Nolan had installed on his phone.
As the page loaded, Diana's smiling face suddenly appeared on his screen.
