Chapter 374 Visiting the Patient
The blunt question hung in the air, leaving the room in silence.
Eugene wanted to give the reporter a thumbs-up for his bravery, clearly unaware of Charles' methods.
"It's fake."
Under everyone's gaze, Charles coldly uttered the words.
To him, there was no need for an explanation; he didn't even deem the question worthy of a response.
"Mr. Percy, don't you want to clarify? Someone saw you with a child..."
Before he could finish, Charles interrupted.
"You're using unverified information to speculate about the Percy family. Why should I explain anything to you? Instead, you need to explain where you heard these rumors."
The reporter was taken aback by Charles' blunt refusal, and no one stepped in to support him.
He lowered his head and muttered, "In that case, I have nothing more to ask."
He tried to sit down, pretending nothing had happened.
But just then, several men in black moved through the crowd and grabbed the reporter.
Charles spoke calmly from the stage, "Please cooperate with the investigation to clear the Percy family's name."
The reporter panicked. He had only wanted to dig up some sensational news. Why was he being investigated?
"Let go of me! I was just talking nonsense. You haven't lost anything, so why target me?"
His colleagues exchanged glances, showing no sympathy, only a hint of fear.
If they had asked the question, they might be the ones facing investigation now.
The men in black said nothing, quickly escorting the reporter out.
Charles stood up on the stage, his gaze cold as he scanned the media below.
He then spoke, "Thank you all for attending the Percy Group's press conference today. I hope you report the facts and focus on the Percy Group's development, not the family's private matters. The rumors just mentioned are false, and the Percy Group will investigate thoroughly."
The implication was clear: anyone spreading these rumors could expect a lawsuit.
With that, Charles turned and left, ignoring the crowd's reactions.
The staff quickly moved to follow the protocol, drawing the reporters' attention away.
As soon as he reached the backstage, Charles' composed demeanor vanished.
His face turned pale, veins bulging on his forehead as he fought the pain.
Eugene rushed over to help him out of the building.
An ambulance was waiting outside, ready to take him to the hospital.
But just as the ambulance doors were about to close, Charles suddenly spoke to one of the men in black, "Take Benjamin to..."
He didn't finish his sentence before passing out from blood loss.
Eugene shouted in alarm, quickly closing the door and urging the driver to go.
The man in black stood there, confused.
Where should he take Benjamin?
In the lounge, Milan sat in the corner, leisurely playing a mobile game.
Benjamin and Diana were sitting together, chatting intimately.
At the moment, she couldn't take Benjamin away, which worried her deeply.
But there was no use in being anxious; she couldn't transfer the pressure onto Benjamin.
She decided to send Dean back to Sword of Damocles to handle things there while she stayed to see how things unfolded.
Just as they were enjoying their time, the door suddenly opened.
Two men in black entered and addressed Benjamin, "Benjamin, it's time to go."
Benjamin's smile vanished, and he crossed his arms, turning away in refusal.
"I don't want to. I'm staying here."
The men in black were patient with Benjamin. One of them crouched down and said, "Benjamin, Mr. Percy is in the hospital. There's no point in staying here. You should go home."
They assumed Charles wanted Benjamin to return to the Percy Mansion, given his current condition.
Benjamin still resisted.
"No way. Why should I listen to you?"
Milan stood up, smiling politely.
"If Mr. Percy is injured, we won't stay for dinner. Thank you for your hospitality today. We'll be leaving now."
He signaled Diana to follow him.
Diana's expression was conflicted. What would happen to Benjamin if she left?
But leaving now was the only chance to save him. So, Diana discreetly squeezed Benjamin's hand, signaling that she was about to go.
Benjamin understood, but his eyes welled up with tears. He shouted, "I'm not going back!"
As Milan and Diana tried to leave, another man in black stepped forward with a stern face.
"Did we say you could leave? Mr. Percy is injured, but the dinner will proceed. Please wait."
Diana's anger flared.
"Do you hear yourself? Mr. Percy is hospitalized. If it's serious, are we supposed to wait here until he's discharged? Move! We're leaving."
This was madness. They wouldn't let those who wanted to leave go, and forced those who didn't want to leave.
"Miss, shouting won't help. We only follow Mr. Percy's orders."
Milan's face darkened. He was here to help Nolan, and now he was being detained.
He pulled out his phone to call Nolan.
The phone rang, and Nolan answered.
"Nolan, what's going on with your boss? I'm here to help, and now I'm being detained?"
Milan's questions came rapid-fire, and Nolan paused before explaining.
"Sorry, he just wants to thank you with a meal."
"Well, thanks a lot, but now he's in the hospital. Are we supposed to wait in the lounge until he's discharged?"
Milan's tone was sharp, and Nolan understood the reason for the call.
But Charles' wishes had to be respected, which was now a problem.
After a moment of thought, Nolan softened his tone.
"Please, Milan, go to the hospital and talk to Mr. Percy. Just consider it a visit. I'll make sure to thank you properly."
Milan's patience was wearing thin, but he had a good relationship with Nolan.
He grumbled, "I'm going to make you pay through the nose for this!"
"You're welcome."
After hanging up, Milan addressed the men in black. "Did you hear that? Take me to see Mr. Percy."
If he went, Diana would have the chance to leave. That was Milan's plan.
But the men in black nodded and said, "Sir, Miss, please."
"Miss? Just me! My assistant goes home!"
Milan stood in front of Diana, his voice urgent.
"If it's just a visit, what's the difference between one or two? Please."
Ignoring his protests, the men in black remained firm.
Milan cursed and tried calling Nolan again, but the line showed "busy."
Diana took a deep breath, placing her hand on Milan's arm to calm him.
"It's okay. It's just a visit."
These men were stubborn. If they delayed any longer, Charles might recover enough to join them for dinner. She couldn't wear a mask while eating, could she?
"I want to go too!"
Benjamin wiped his tears and rushed over.
