Chapter 379 Diana and Benjamin's Decision
Diana paused for a moment before casually saying, "My last name is Wipere."
She didn't mention her first name. After all, she wouldn't be staying here long.
"Alright, Ms. Wipere. Please wait here while I get someone to prepare your room."
"As for your job, we'll wait for Mr. Percy to return and give instructions. If you need anything, just let me know." Jacob smiled politely.
Beside him, Benjamin tugged at his sleeve.
"Mr. Hearst, can I play with this lady?"
His eyes sparkled. It wasn't easy pretending not to recognize his own mother.
Jacob hesitated slightly, then bent down to explain, "She's here to work for Mr. Percy, Benjamin. If you want a playmate, you can play with the servants."
Benjamin shook his head quickly. "I don't want to play with them. I want to play with her."
With that, he ran over to Diana and grabbed her fingers.
Jacob hurried forward to stop him, but Benjamin pulled Diana along and ran.
"Benjamin, you can't do that."
"It's okay, I like kids," Diana said, looking up.
Jacob was a bit helpless but couldn't argue with Benjamin. He explained, "This is a child staying with us. I'm sorry for the trouble, Ms. Wipere."
"No problem."
Before she could finish speaking, Benjamin eagerly pulled her upstairs.
He had so much to say but had to hold back in the car because of the others.
Now, he could finally talk to his mommy.
Five years had passed since Diana last stepped into The Percy Mansion. Everything looked just as it did before.
With each step, a strong sense of familiarity washed over her.
Seeing no one around, Diana lowered her voice, "Benjamin, slow down. Don't rush."
Benjamin didn't slow down, though. The room was just ahead.
Once inside, they closed the door.
He let out a long breath and couldn't wait to ask, "Mommy, why did you stay? And why didn't he recognize you? You haven't changed at all."
Seeing Benjamin's anxious face, Diana gently patted his head and said softly, "Don't worry, I'll explain everything."
"Your dad said if I didn't stay, he wouldn't let me stay in Evergreen City. With you here, how could I leave?"
Diana knelt to look Benjamin in the eye, her tone gentle to avoid making him feel guilty.
Benjamin seemed to understand a little. Now that Diana could stay with him, life at The Percy Mansion wouldn't be so hard.
"But why didn't he recognize you?"
Diana wasn't sure about that either. Everyone seemed shocked to see her, even Eugene had said her name, but no one confirmed her identity.
Maybe it was because she had died so thoroughly?
After all, coming back from the dead was hard to accept.
After thinking for a moment, Diana said, "Maybe they just think I look like her."
Given the example of Stella, this misunderstanding could work in their favor.
Benjamin's eyes sparkled, and he grinned, "They're so dumb! How could they not recognize you? Mommy, now we can be together. Can we go back after a while?"
Diana raised an eyebrow. Benjamin had gotten pretty familiar with The Percy Mansion after just a few days. Charles must have treated him well.
She smiled and asked, "So, how do you feel about staying here? Do you want to stay? I want to know how you really feel."
Benjamin shook his head immediately. "It's nice here, but I want to be with you, Mommy. But..."
He hesitated, watching Diana's reaction.
"Go ahead, I won't be mad."
Diana smiled, encouraging him to speak.
Benjamin pouted and spoke softly, "I feel like he's not as bad as Dean said. Mr. Hearst told me he still keeps your room and the nursery he prepared for me. I peeked inside, and it's beautiful."
Afraid Diana would be angry, Benjamin quickly added, "But I still want to go back with you, Mommy. That's just how I feel after these few days."
Though he approached Charles with a heart full of resentment, Charles' actions had touched him.
He used to think Charles was a demon, but now he seemed not so bad.
He was just too cold and didn't know how to express himself.
Diana wasn't angry after hearing this. She changed the subject, "Benjamin, if a little boy pulls a little girl's hair, what do you think of that behavior?"
"Of course, it's bad. If I were there, I'd stop him. You can't pull someone's hair."
Benjamin didn't understand why Diana asked this, but his upbringing made him answer.
Diana smiled, "But what if the boy likes the girl and pulls her hair to get her attention? What would you do then?"
Benjamin was stunned. He had no concept of this, but Diana's explanation made some sense.
"But that's still wrong. If he likes her, he should just tell her. Pulling hair hurts!"
Benjamin tugged his own hair to feel the pain, reinforcing his point.
"You're right. If love is expressed through hurt, it's not love. Maybe your dad liked me, but his way of showing it hurt me."
Diana was glad Benjamin understood. He was different from Charles; Benjamin knew how to express love.
Sensing the sadness in Diana's voice, Benjamin frowned and hugged her, kissing her cheek.
"Mommy, I understand. We'll go back soon, and it won't hurt anymore."
Diana held his hand and nodded, "Yes, we'll go back soon."
At the hospital.
Charles lay in bed, the pain pump easing his pain and allowing him to think about the day's events.
Diana was back.
He couldn't help but smile, recalling the moment he saw her eyes.
It felt like a dream.
When he was injured, she appeared like an angel in white.
As she bandaged him, he could smell her faint scent, making his body tense.
The Diana who had died five years ago was suddenly in front of him. Even with a mask, he recognized her instantly.
The world went silent, time seemed to stop. All he saw was Diana.
Charles wondered if it was an illusion, but when the mask came off and everyone else was just as shocked, he knew it was real.
He didn't even think about how she came back from the dead.
He just felt empty inside.
Helpless—that was the only way to describe how he felt at that moment.
