Chapter 315 Avoid

Diana ate a little, feeling physically better, but her mood was still low. She lay awake until dawn.

At eight o'clock, she finally felt sleepy and gradually closed her eyes.

In a half-dream, half-awake state, she heard the door open.

The nurse stood up carefully and greeted the visitor with a nod.

The two of them left the room together.

Diana knew who had come but didn't move. She just shifted slightly and continued to sleep.

"How is she?"

Charles looked tense, with stubble on his chin that he hadn't had time to shave. He seemed utterly dejected.

The nurse sighed and said, "She's very quiet, doesn't say a word. When I try to chat with her, she just stares at the ceiling. This can't go on; she'll get depressed."

'Physical pain is easy to treat, but the pain in the heart leaves no room for recovery,' she thought.

The nurse, who had a good impression of the generous Charles, saw his sorrow and gently advised, "Let her see some friends. Once she's out of the hospital, take her out more to change her mood. You two seem like a good match; don't let an accident ruin it."

She didn't know what had happened between Charles and Diana, but she offered her advice based on experience.

Charles lowered his eyes, seeming to take her words to heart, and nodded, "Take good care of her. If you need anything, just ask."

The nurse nodded and returned to the room.

Charles, however, stood at the doorway. He didn't dare go in to see her, choosing instead to avoid it this way.

Diana didn't know what they had talked about, but over the next week, many people came to visit her.

There was Robert, Isolde, Brenda, and Sabrina. Even Kennedy from Sunset Hamlet brought her kids to see her.

Diana saw all sorts of people every day. She even thought that if Billy suddenly showed up, it wouldn't be surprising.

Isolde and Sabrina visited the most frequently. To avoid making Diana sad by seeing her child, Cecil was sent to daycare.

"Diana, Charles is something else. He didn't act like this before. Now that the baby is gone, he keeps pushing us to cheer you up. Where is he? Hiding?"

Isolde peeled an apple, looking displeased. She cut it into three pieces, handing one to Diana and another to Sabrina.

The three women nibbled on the apples like hamsters.

Sabrina, the youngest, was the most outspoken.

"Men are like that; they only cherish what they lose. Diana, don't forgive him. You're amazing, and there are plenty of people who like you."

"Besides, Noah likes you too. You could be my sister-in-law. If he treats you badly, I'll deal with him myself!"

"Exactly," Isolde said, munching on her apple. "There are 3.5 billion men in the world. No matter how handsome or rich he is, you'll get tired of him eventually."

"I recently got a VIP membership at a club with lots of young, handsome guys. Let's go have some fun."

"Isolde, I want to go too!" Sabrina's eyes lit up with excitement.

Isolde pushed her away, annoyed, "I'm introducing them to Diana, not you, little girl."

Diana was amused by their antics. If Charles knew that the people he sent to cheer her up were all advising her to leave him, she wondered what he would think.

Seeing her smile, Isolde and Sabrina both relaxed, their expressions becoming more serious.

"Diana, don't be too sad. You still have us. The most important thing now is to get better."

"Yeah, Diana, I still want to go out and have fun with you."

"Thank you, I'm feeling much better. You don't need to come every day. Go to work, go to school." Diana smiled.

But Isolde suddenly interrupted, her expression serious and voice low, mimicking a dramatic tone, "Diana, I'm here to keep you company. Aren't you touched? Do you like a bossy female CEO? Answer me!"

Sabrina immediately caught on and mimicked, "Diana, I skipped class to be with you. Aren't you touched? Do you like a bossy college girl?"

Diana was almost in tears from laughing at these two drama queens, nodding repeatedly, "I like it, I like it very much."

The three of them laughed together.

After the laughter died down, Diana turned to Isolde and said, "Isolde, can you do me a favor?"

"What kind of favor?" Isolde stopped laughing and asked.

"I think Evelyn is having a hard time with me. Can she work for you? I'll pay her salary."

Isolde raised an eyebrow and quickly agreed, "Of course, no problem. You don't need to pay her salary; I'll pay her double to take care of Cecil."

"You have no idea how hard it is to find a good maid. Are you sure you want to give her to me?"

Diana was silent for a moment, thinking about how Evelyn was always threatened while working for her. Maybe letting her go was the best thing for her.

"Yes, The Percy Mansion is too stifling for her. As long as you can protect her, that's enough."

Isolde seemed to realize something and frowned, "Diana, if Charles insists on taking her back, I might not be able to stop him."

Her voice grew smaller, tinged with guilt.

Diana shook her head, "It's okay, that won't happen. I know what I'm doing."

Seeing her certainty, Isolde didn't ask further.

Evelyn hadn't come because she was also in the hospital. What started as a small cold turned into pneumonia, and she almost didn't make it.

If Diana hadn't gone out for help, it could have been much worse.

Now that Evelyn's future was settled, Diana felt a bit more at ease.

After Isolde and Sabrina left, the nurse came in, and Diana said, "I want to see Charles."

Her voice was calm, revealing no emotion.

The nurse hesitated but nodded under her gaze, "Okay, I'll ask."

She dialed the phone, and when it connected, Charles' voice came through, "What's wrong? Is she okay?"

The nurse glanced at Diana, swallowed, and said, "Mr. Percy, Ms. Spencer wants to see you."

There was silence on the other end, as if he was thinking.

After a moment, he replied, "Tell her I'm very busy. We'll talk when she gets out of the hospital. No, tell her I'm on a business trip abroad and can't come back for now."

"Really? Which country are you in?"

The nurse's voice suddenly became Diana's. Charles froze, and the nurse on the other end shouted, "Ms. Spencer, don't grab the phone."

He understood and couldn't help but feel nervous, his voice softening, "I really am on a business trip. I'll bring you a gift when I get back, okay? What do you want? Diamonds? Gold?"

Diana frowned, her tone serious, "Charles, you know that's not what I want. How long are you going to avoid me? Let's meet and talk."

"I told you, I'm very busy and don't have time."

Diana was fed up with his poor excuses and didn't want to delay any longer, speaking decisively, "Fine, then let's talk on the phone. Our agreement..."

But before she could finish, Charles suddenly changed his tone, "My flight is about to take off. We'll talk when I get back."

He hung up, leaving Diana to face the busy signal alone.

She laughed in anger and called back, but it showed that his phone was off.

"Fine, let's see how long you can avoid me. If you have the guts, don't come back ever."
