Chapter 311 Discovered
She pointed towards a spot by a display window.
Diana glanced up at the sky, noticing the sudden arrival of dark, oppressive clouds that made it hard to breathe.
"Alright, thank you."
Diana whispered her gratitude and used the girl's phone to call Brenda.
Initially, she had planned to call the hospital and have an ambulance sent directly to The Percy Mansion, but it would likely be stopped. So, she decided to call Brenda instead.
Brenda was daydreaming in her clinic when the phone rang, startling her.
Seeing it was an unknown number, she hesitated before answering.
"Hello? Who's this?"
This was her private number, and only family or very important clients ever called.
"It's me, Diana."
"Ms. Spencer? What's up? Are you okay? We checked you the other day, and everything seemed fine."
Brenda stood up, speaking rapidly, but Diana quickly interrupted her.
"I'm fine. It's Evelyn. She's really sick, and Charles won't let us leave or have a doctor come. Can you come to The Percy Mansion and see her? She's in the attic in the back garden."
Relieved that it wasn't Diana who was in trouble, Brenda agreed immediately.
"Okay, I'll be right there."
"She's in the attic. Don't listen to anyone until you see her. If someone tries to stop you, insist on seeing her."
Diana's tone was serious.
Brenda didn't fully understand the situation but had a hunch and nodded repeatedly.
"Got it, Ms. Spencer. I'll make sure to see her."
After the call, Diana felt a bit more at ease.
Despite Brenda's quirky nature, she was reliable when it came to medical matters.
She returned the phone to the nearby girl with a grateful smile.
"Thanks a lot for your help. I need to go now. Here, take this back."
Diana started to remove the shawl she was wearing.
The girl, who had given Diana some space during the call, quickly stepped forward to stop her.
"No need. It's not expensive. You should keep it. It's too cold, and you'll catch a cold dressed like that."
Seeing the girl's insistence, Diana smiled and thanked her again.
After saying their goodbyes, Diana continued on her way, though the path grew increasingly remote.
In the president's office of the Percy Group.
Nolan clutched Charles' phone, looking conflicted.
The phone had been ringing for a while, not with calls or texts, but with some kind of persistent alert.
At that moment, Charles was in a meeting. If Nolan walked in with this "ticking time bomb," he feared he would be doomed the very next second.
Twenty minutes later, the meeting finally ended. Charles emerged from the conference room, and Nolan handed him the phone.
"Mr. Percy, your phone has been ringing non-stop. I'm not sure why."
Charles' expression was calm until he heard the sound. His brow furrowed instantly, and he snatched the phone.
Unlocking it, a map popped up, showing a red dot moving slowly away from a green "home" safe zone.
She ran away again!
Outside, the sky was dark, thunder rumbled, and lightning flashed through the windows.
"It's going to rain. There shouldn't be such loud thunder in winter," Nolan muttered, noticing Charles' worsening expression.
Charles' Adam's apple bobbed, his voice low and filled with growing irritation and pain.
"Call home and find out where Diana is."
"Yes, Mr. Percy."
Nolan quickly dialed the number. It rang once before being answered. He put it on speaker, and Tessa's sweet voice came through.
"Mr. Smith, did Mr. Percy have any instructions?"
Nolan glanced at Charles and said, "Tessa, is Ms. Spencer there? I need to speak with her."
Tessa, at home, frowned. 'Why would they suddenly need Diana?'
"Of course, she's here. It's about to rain, and Ms. Spencer is resting in her room. Should I get her to take the call?"
"Yes, please have Ms. Spencer take the call."
Another thunderclap boomed. Tessa glanced at the darkening sky, feeling uneasy.
After having her request turned down, Diana had retreated to her room without making a sound, which was unusual for her.
Tessa's palms began to sweat, and her voice wavered slightly. "Okay, I'll go get her, but she might be asleep. If it's not urgent, I can relay the message."
"Let her rest then," Nolan said, following Charles' signal.
Tessa sighed in relief. "I'll have her call back as soon as she wakes up."
After hanging up, Tessa hurried upstairs and knocked on Diana's door, but there was no answer.
Her heart sank. She pulled out a key and opened the door.
The room was silent, but the bed was missing its sheets, and the balcony curtains fluttered in the wind, scattering papers across the floor.
Tessa rushed to the balcony, calling out, "Ms. Spencer, are you out here? It's going to rain, come back inside."
As she spoke, the rain poured down. The balcony was empty, except for a sheet tied to the railing, showing Diana had used it to escape.
Tessa's vision darkened. She now understood why Nolan had called.
She ran downstairs, wanting to call back but unsure how to explain.
Letting Diana escape would surely result in punishment!
Despite it being winter, sweat dripped from Tessa's forehead, falling onto the table.
At that moment, someone entered.
Brenda, carrying a medical bag, spoke coldly, "Tessa, take me to see Evelyn. I'm here to treat her."
Seeing the uninvited Brenda, Tessa dropped the phone, her hands trembling.
Brenda continued, "So it was you stopping her from getting treatment. In that case, I'll find her myself."
Brenda turned to leave.
Tessa, pale and slumped on the floor, realized she was doomed. Diana had run off to report everything, and it was all over.
The Percy Group.
After the call, the office atmosphere grew even more tense and oppressive.
Nolan didn't know why Charles' phone had been ringing, but he could guess from the call that Diana had escaped The Percy Mansion again.
Nolan spoke quietly, "Mr. Percy, the car is ready. We can go find Ms. Spencer now."
"Leave," Charles ordered, cutting him off.
Nolan fell silent and quickly left the office.
The door closed with a snap. Charles stared at the stormy sky, his thoughts unreadable.
After a moment, he grabbed his coat and left the office.
