Chapter 67 Failure and Success

Diana stood there, a sly smile tugging at her lips. She didn't look scared or anything. Her eyes were locked on Charles, almost like she was daring him.

Guys loved a challenge, and her attitude just made Charles want to win her over even more. So, out of character, he asked, "Do you really want me to stay?"

Before Diana could answer, Clara butted in, "Mr. Percy, I... I really hope you can stay and watch this promotional event. After all, I came from the Percy Group and have been under your guidance." But Charles was only looking at Diana, waiting for her to say something.

Diana nodded. "If Mr. Percy wants to stay, that'd be great. If not..."

"I'll stay and watch. You all do your best," Charles cut her off before she could finish.

Diana rolled her eyes internally, thinking, 'I'm just being polite; who really wants a ticking time bomb hanging around?'

Clara, seeing their exchange, was fuming. She'd worked so hard to get Charles here, and now he was all about Diana. It was maddening! But she quickly pulled herself together and focused on the event.

Diana hung out in the reception room for about half an hour before stepping out. Calliope from her team rushed over, "Diana, everything's ready. We can start anytime." Diana nodded but told her to hold on. They went to the venue to double-check everything.

After they left, Axel chimed in, "Aren't they just selling old stuff? Why all the fuss?"

Another employee, who had rented the venue, was also confused. "No idea, but it seems pretty amateurish. We might be in for a show today."

Seeing Clara bring Charles made Axel even more convinced of his thoughts, and his disdain for Diana grew.

Axel said, "This Ms. Wipere is a joke, leaving everything to an intern. Can that intern handle it? She's not even here now. Just wait. Once our event is over, everyone will get a bonus."

Everyone nodded, agreeing with Axel. Since the teams were formed, Diana's team had been super low-key, no overtime, few meetings, not competitive at all.

These two events weren't just about getting the Spencer Group back on track but also a big showdown between the two managers. Whoever won would be the real executive officer of the Spencer Group.

Compared to Clara's flashy approach, Diana's event was way simpler. She had her team set up a live streaming room, and today she was going to be on camera herself.

When Diana suggested this, her team wasn't thrilled, especially the marketing folks. "Diana, you're not a pro at this. The competition on the Know live streaming platform is fierce. Shouldn't we think of something else?"

The marketing team had a point. Know was the hottest video social platform, and while it was popular, the competition was tough. Diana was gorgeous, sure, but there were tons of beautiful people online. Getting people to notice her and buy stuff was a big challenge.

So, after the first meeting, Diana had them start running the company's account on the Know live streaming platform, building up a following.

At the same time, Diana roped in some big-name influencers to hype up the products, putting the Spencer Group back in the spotlight. The main reason she was so confident about using this platform was that it was developed by Isolde's company. As long as Diana was willing to stream, the platform would give her a ton of exposure.

Today, Diana's plan was to strike while the iron was hot, using the Spencer Group's name to offer some sweet deals and run a lottery.

No one could resist these kinds of perks, especially since the Spencer Group's products were nostalgic for a lot of people. Even if they didn't sell much, gaining some goodwill was a win. So Diana shot down the marketing department's suggestions and had them follow her lead.

Clara's approach was totally different. She went for high-end food, pushing the R&D department to come up with new products. Besides the new stuff, there was fancy packaging and a big promotional push.

Clara even spent a ton of money to get a popular celebrity to endorse the products, aiming to break into high society.

But Clara missed one big thing: rich folks didn't really care about food that much. No matter how fancy the food was, sales numbers were what counted. So when she introduced her "high-end foods," most of the bosses and media folks in the audience had weird looks on their faces. But with Charles sitting right there, they didn't dare to whisper and just kept listening. The more they heard, the more they thought the Spencer Group was going to be famous but for all the wrong reasons.

Clara had samples for the audience to taste during the event. As they ate, she went on about how premium the ingredients were and how noble the food-making philosophy was. But no matter how smooth she was, the audience couldn't get over the fact that a small pack of cookies cost over a hundred bucks.

They were rich, but not stupid. A hundred dollars wasn't much to them, but it wasn't worth it for a pack of cookies.

Charles listened, frowning. 'Who comes up with such a lousy plan? It's an insult to my intelligence.' But he held back and didn't blow up on the spot.

He thought, 'If Clara's plan is this bad, Diana's must be even worse. Is she running the company like this after taking it back? At this rate, I won't need to do anything; the Spencer Group will collapse on its own.'

As Clara's event wrapped up, the audience politely clapped and congratulated her. She was on cloud nine, feeling the power. Now she just had to wait for the promotion to take off and then sell her products, and the profits would roll in. So Clara ran to Charles, eager to share her joy. "Mr. Percy, thank you for watching. My plan..."

Charles frowned, thinking about the big investment the Percy Group had made in this plan. He felt uneasy, like he'd lost a lot of money. His face darkened, and he asked, "Who came up with this plan?"

Clara thought Charles was going to praise her and answered, but to her surprise, as soon as she finished, Charles started criticizing, "Clara, as a top graduate who's been with the Percy Group for so many years, do you have no business sense? Did you invest and start production without a risk assessment?"

Clara's smile froze, not knowing what to do. It was true she'd been with the company for a long time, but the more professional work was done by Nolan. This promotional event was rushed; there was no time for a risk assessment.
