Chapter 224 No Reason
Dean suddenly straightened up, his voice getting louder. "Sophia, are you alright?"
"I'm fine, but I think that car accident wasn't just an accident. Someone might be after me."
Thinking about the three cars that cut them off today, it was really fishy. Diana didn't know them at all, and Jett was driving super carefully, following all the traffic rules.
One car cutting them off could be a coincidence, but three? That was definitely planned.
She couldn't think of anyone she had pissed off recently, so she decided to tell Dean and let him help her figure it out.
As Diana finished talking, Dean's face got serious too. When Sophia was in the Sword of Damocles, besides Grant and his crew, there were plenty of others who wanted her spot. Could it be those people?
But then Dean remembered that Sophia had completely changed her identity now. Even he might not recognize her if they met, let alone others.
After a moment, Dean thought and said, "Sophia, did you get into some trouble? Or did your current identity piss someone off?"
Diana thought carefully. The biggest trouble she had recently was Charles; everything else she had handled. But it was obvious he didn't do this. Who could it be?
"No, you know me; I'm always super careful and never cause trouble."
Listening to Diana's serious nonsense, Dean pursed his lips, remembering her past exploits, and couldn't help but mutter, "Sophia, you always seem to cause more trouble than anyone else."
"Dean, don't make me sound like some kind of troublemaker. I was just settling scores." Diana gritted her teeth. She thought, 'This Dean, he's getting cheeky again after not being beaten for a while.'
Sensing her displeasure, Dean quickly changed the subject and said, "I'll help you investigate, Sophia. Take care of yourself. Maybe you should stay home for a while, and I'll come to the Rainbow Federation to pick you up."
Diana rolled her eyes dramatically. Dean was being overly concerned. She wasn't a child.
"Dean, are you underestimating me? I've just changed bodies, but you're still no match for me, understand?"
Sensing her annoyance, Dean realized she misunderstood his intentions.
When he first heard the news of Sophia's death, the usually stoic Dean cried for three days and nights. He almost fainted at her funeral.
He didn't want to experience that feeling of losing a loved one again. If Diana hadn't stopped him, he would have risked his life to bring her back from the Rainbow Federation.
But hearing her reproachful voice, it felt like the old days when they made a sensation in the Sword of Damocles.
Dean smiled and obediently apologized, "Sophia, how could I ever underestimate you? I'll go investigate who dared to plot against you. They must be asking for trouble."
This was the attitude a subordinate should have. Diana raised her chin slightly, satisfied with his response.
After chatting for a while, there was a knock on the door. "Ms. Spencer, may I come in?"
Diana quickly ended the call, composed herself, and shouted, "Come in."
As the door opened, Evelyn entered with a box of ointment that Brenda had prepared earlier.
As soon as Diana got home, Evelyn noticed her swollen lips and red marks on her wrist. She suspected that Charles must have bullied Diana. After putting Snowy back in its nest, she hurried to get the ointment.
With a tone full of concern, she asked, "Ms. Spencer, are you okay?"
Diana was a bit taken aback by Evelyn's question. It wasn't until Evelyn took her wrist that she realized she had marks on her body again.
Anger surged within her, but seeing Evelyn's worried face, she held back her temper. "I'm fine; it's just a small injury."
Evelyn frowned, opened the ointment, and carefully applied it to Diana's wrist. At first, it felt cool, but soon it started to warm up.
After finishing, she sighed in relief, "Ms. Spencer, we should stay away from Mr. Percy. Nothing good ever happens when he's around."
Diana couldn't agree more and nodded. As Evelyn put away the ointment, she said, "By the way, Ms. Hope called today. She said someone has been sent to help manage the Rainbow Orphanage. Besides our donation, Mr. Percy also donated."
Diana raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised that Charles would do charity.
Evelyn sighed and muttered, "Mr. Percy can be nice sometimes, but he's really mean to you, Ms. Spencer."
Diana didn't react much to this, just turned over and said indifferently, "He hates me. It's normal for him to do these things."
Even though Charles had inexplicably kissed her twice, Diana didn't think he had fallen in love with her.
Rather than love, it was more like a superior teasing a subordinate. When she was in the Sword of Damocles, she would also kiss a few handsome men out of boredom, and that was it.
Late at night, on the third floor of Mirage Nights Club, Eugene stood with his arms crossed, scrutinizing the stern man in front of him.
Since the last party, Charles had sent him to work on a farm. If he didn't work, the men in black would force him to.
Eugene, who had been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, had never done any labor.
After a few days, he deeply understood the hardships of farmers. Every night, he prayed that Charles would let him go.
Today, just as he finished his work and was resting in bed, a few men in black barged into his room and packed him onto a plane.
Eugene immediately understood that Charles needed something from him. But when he found out what it was, he wished he could go back to farming.
Eugene said, "You mean you realized you love Diana after the divorce, right?"
Charles, who was drinking, paused and then admitted.
Seeing this, Eugene rolled his eyes dramatically. He knew it! He had sensed something was off at the party. He was right! But then Eugene asked in confusion, "Why?"
Diana was indeed beautiful, but there were many beautiful women. Even celebrities liked Charles. And Charles wasn't a lustful person, so why did he suddenly fall in love? Could it be because of her personality?
Thinking of this, Eugene fell silent. He hadn't interacted much with Diana, but her vengeful nature left a deep impression. He preferred gentle and caring types.
When Charles heard his question, his eyes became gentler in the darkness. He said, "No reason."
After putting the past behind, he realized Diana wasn't that bad. She looked beautiful when serious, brave when standing up for friends, and gentle when playing with children.
Even when she glared at him in anger, she seemed cute. Moreover, her lips were nice to kiss, and her body felt soft.
Charles felt a warm sensation in his chest, suddenly realizing the many admirable qualities Diana possessed.
To hide his emotions, he took a big gulp of alcohol and said, "She's stupid and stubborn, doesn't understand me, and always opposes me. There's nothing to like about her."
