Chapter 168 female companion

After catching some extra Z's yesterday afternoon, Diana was up bright and early today.

Evelyn was a bit taken aback to see her come downstairs so early. She suddenly realized she hadn't prepped any food for Diana and started to panic a bit.

"Oh, Ms. Spencer! I didn't expect you up this early. I haven't made anything for you yet."

She said it earnestly and, without waiting for Diana's response, asked, "Ms. Spencer, what do you want for breakfast? A sandwich or some oatmeal?"

Diana yawned, clearly not bothered. "No worries, just grab me a slice of bread and some milk."

With that, she plopped down at the dining table, and rested her face in her hands, waiting for the food.

Jacob noticed Diana zoning out and couldn't help but comment, "Mr. Percy left about half an hour ago. If you had gotten up earlier, you could've had breakfast together."

Diana stared blankly at the table and replied indifferently, "Well, it's a good thing I didn't come down earlier then."

Eating with Charles always killed her appetite. She was actually relieved he had already left.

Jacob sighed inwardly at her words.

Charles was usually too swamped to come home, but yesterday he not only came back in the afternoon to set up the nursery but also drove back at eleven at night.

Diana was already asleep by then, so he didn't wake her.

With the Percy Group being so busy, Charles left for the office before Diana even got up.

Jacob wanted to say more, but seeing how resistant Diana was towards Charles, he decided to keep quiet.

Just then, Evelyn came out of the kitchen with the food, "Ms. Spencer, breakfast is ready! I made two kinds of sandwiches: chicken and fruit. Which one do you want?"

Diana's eyes lit up, and she followed the plate with her gaze.

When the plate was set in front of her, she grabbed the chicken sandwich without hesitation.

She ate quickly but still looked elegant. In no time, the sandwich was gone.

Seeing that she had only eaten a single sandwich, Evelyn couldn't help but urge, "Ms. Spencer, you should eat more. If not, at least drink the milk."

Saying this, Evelyn handed the milk to Diana.

But for some reason, the usually sweet milk had a weird fishy smell today.

Diana covered her nose and took several steps back, "This milk smells awful, it must be spoiled."

Evelyn was puzzled and carefully sniffed the milk, then took a sip. "No, Ms. Spencer, the milk is fresh."

Diana was skeptical and leaned in to smell it again.

The next second, her expression changed, and she rushed to the bathroom, retching twice. She almost threw up the breakfast she had just eaten.

"Ms. Spencer, what's wrong? Jacob, call the doctor quickly." Evelyn's voice was anxious behind her.

In no time, Brenda was called over. Hearing that something was wrong with Diana, she was quite frightened.

She had just recovered; could Charles have tormented her again?

But after hearing the description of Diana's condition, Brenda scratched her head. "Ms. Spencer, you're experiencing morning sickness."

"Morning sickness?" Diana held a glass of plain water, drinking half of it to suppress the nausea, "I haven't had morning sickness since I got pregnant."

Brenda shook her head, "Every pregnant woman is different, and during pregnancy, you can be more sensitive. It's normal to be repulsed by the smell of milk. Just avoid milk from now on and get your nutrition from other sources."

Hearing this, Evelyn breathed a sigh of relief. She had thought it was food poisoning and had been checking the milk repeatedly, almost sending it for testing.

Diana touched her belly and muttered, "Is it you, little one, who doesn't like milk?"

Seeing that Diana was fine, Brenda stood up, smoothed out the wrinkles in her clothes, and said, "Ms. Spencer, since you're okay, I'll be heading out. You should go upstairs and rest."

Diana gave a half-hearted response, and as soon as Brenda left, she said, "Jacob, I need to go to the company today. I won't be back for lunch."

Jacob and Evelyn both looked up at the same time.

"Ms. Spencer, are you going to see Mr. Percy?" Jacob asked.

"Ms. Spencer, do you want me to come with you?" Evelyn added.

Diana shook her head and put the glass back on the table. "I'm going to the Spencer Group. Evelyn, you stay home, there's no need for you to come."

Seeing Jacob's hesitant expression, Diana reminded him, "Jacob, I am allowed to go out. Charles hasn't restricted my freedom."

"That's true," Jacob said hesitantly, "but for your safety, you need to take two bodyguards."

Diana raised an eyebrow; she hadn't expected to be able to go out alone anyway. "Alright, Jacob, you arrange it."

Jacob nodded and turned to notify the bodyguards to prepare the car.

After Jacob left, Evelyn asked worriedly, "Ms. Spencer, are you sure you don't need me to come?"

Diana gave a reassuring smile, "Really, it's fine. You stay home. I'll come back after handling things at the Spencer Group."

Besides, with Robert at the Spencer Group, Evelyn wouldn't be of much use there.

Seeing her firm attitude, Evelyn didn't say more.

At the entrance, the bodyguards were already waiting for Diana.

The car door was opened, and after she was seated in the back, Jacob said to the two stern-faced bodyguards, "Protect Ms. Spencer. If anything happens, follow her instructions."

One bodyguard took the wheel, and the other sat in the front passenger seat. Hearing Jacob's words, they both nodded respectfully.

Upon closer inspection, one of them was Jett, the bodyguard who had accompanied Diana on her last outing.

The Percy Mansion was over an hour's drive from the Spencer Group. Feeling a bit drowsy, Diana closed her eyes and said, "I'll take a nap. Wake me when we arrive."

With that, she leaned into the corner of the car door and fell into a light sleep.

The bodyguards remained silent, but seeing her asleep, they drove with exceptional care.

Diana didn't wake up until they reached the company. Jett called out to wake her, "Ms. Spencer, wake up. We've arrived at the Spencer Group."

It was the employees' working hours, and the luxury car parked in front of the Spencer Group attracted quite a bit of attention.

Axel and Nia happened to pass by, both holding coffee.

"Does anyone in our building drive this car?" Nia looked at the Lamborghini, his tone full of curiosity.

"Probably just passing by? Or maybe dropping someone off." Axel's tone was calm, but his eyes scanned the car windows.

As if to confirm his words, the next second, a burly man in black got out of the passenger seat, his face stern.

He opened the back door, and the first thing that caught their eyes was a delicate hand. Gradually, its owner emerged, standing upright with grace.

Axel and Nia exclaimed simultaneously, "Ms. Spencer?"

Diana turned her head at the sound, her brows slightly furrowed. Weren't these two from Clara's team?

Seeing Diana silent, Nia felt a bit awkward and nudged Axel's arm, saying, "Hello, Ms. Spencer. We'll head up first."

Diana nodded and smiled, acknowledging the greeting.
