Chapter 304 Punishment
Charles felt like he'd been hit by a ton of bricks. His chest ached with a dull pain.
His eyes were stormy with emotion, and he tightened his grip on Diana's arm.
She cried out, trying to pull away, but he yanked her into a bear hug that left her gasping for air.
His strength was suffocating, squeezing the breath right out of her.
Diana pounded on his back, yelling, "Let go of me! Let go!"
Charles' lips pressed into a thin line, holding back his rage.
Diana felt the air being crushed out of her chest, his chin digging painfully into her shoulder.
Just as she was about to black out, Charles suddenly let go.
She crumpled to the floor, weak and breathless, but he showed no emotion.
His voice was cold and detached as he looked down at her, just like when they first met, "If this is what you want, then enjoy the days to come."
With that, he turned and walked out, leaving Diana alone in the room.
The door slammed shut with a loud bang. Diana knelt on the floor, taking a long time to gather herself before using the couch to stand up.
She heard the sound of a car engine starting downstairs. He was gone.
Although Charles hadn't left any specific instructions, she had a bad feeling.
Diana smoothed her hair and reached for the door, only to find it locked from the outside.
This was Charles' room; this shouldn't be happening.
There was only one possibility: the words Charles said before leaving were meant as a punishment, locking her in this room.
Panic set in. She had just come from the next room, wearing only a bathrobe, with no way to contact anyone.
She rattled the doorknob, but it didn't budge.
Five minutes later, Diana kicked the door in frustration and sat back down on the carpet, feeling defeated.
She regretted provoking him.
'That bastard Charles is capable of anything.' She cursed him in her mind, thinking of ways to escape.
It was morning, and she should be having breakfast. Evelyn would come looking for her if she didn't show up.
With that thought, Diana felt a bit relieved and turned to the wardrobe to find some clothes.
But there were no clothes of hers in this room, only Charles'.
She put on one of his sweaters, which was so large it could be worn as a dress.
As she rolled up the sleeves, she muttered complaints.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
She paused, and before she could reach the door, she heard a key turning in the lock.
The door opened a crack, and a tray of food was pushed in, left on the carpet.
Diana called out, "Evelyn?"
The person outside hesitated, then replied, "Ms. Spencer, it's time to eat."
It was Tessa. Why was she bringing food? Where was Evelyn?
Tessa was about to close the door when Diana quickly blocked it with her hand.
The door was heavy, and getting her hand caught would be dangerous.
Tessa gasped and quickly opened the door.
Diana's hand hurt, but she managed to open the door, her voice stern, "Where's Evelyn? Why are you here?"
Seeing that Diana didn't show any signs of pain on her face, Tessa relaxed and half-closed the door, replying, "Evelyn is where she should be. Ms. Spencer, you should mind your own business."
Tessa couldn't help but smirk. Charles had finally decided to punish them.
She had always disliked Evelyn, who acted more like Diana's friend than a maid. If it weren't for Charles, Evelyn would be living like a queen.
"What do you mean, 'where she should be'? Where is she?"
Diana's emotions flared. If Evelyn was sent to a place like Mirage Nights Club, how would she, a defenseless girl, survive?
Tessa didn't expect such a strong reaction. The door almost swung open, and she quickly explained, "Mr. Percy said you can't leave this room from today. All your meals will be brought by me."
"Your maid Evelyn is in the attic. If you don't behave, Evelyn will go hungry. So, eat your meal."
Diana was furious. "This is my problem, not Evelyn's! Call Charles and tell him to release Evelyn! Take it out on me!"
Diana kicked the food tray, spilling its contents on the carpet.
Tessa's eyes widened, and she snapped, "Diana, you're just using your pregnancy to make Mr. Percy indulge you. Now look, you kicked over breakfast, so Evelyn won't eat either!"
With that, she pushed Diana and slammed the door shut.
The room fell silent. Diana, breathing heavily, stood there, her hand swollen.
Soon, two maids came in to clean up the mess without a word, not even acknowledging Diana, and left.
Downstairs, Tessa was enjoying some expensive supplements, savoring each bite.
Bronte couldn't help but ask, "Tessa, aren't you going to bring Ms. Spencer something to eat? She's pregnant."
Tessa put down her spoon and rolled her eyes, "Why should I? Pregnant or not, she's not an endangered species. If she kicked over her food, she doesn't get to eat. And neither does Evelyn!"
She finished her supplements, tossed the container into the sink, and left the kitchen.
Bronte sighed, feeling helpless.
Charles had thrown a fit early in the morning, ordering the staff to lock Diana and Evelyn in separate rooms.
No one was allowed to speak to Diana except Tessa, who was in charge of bringing her meals.
Tessa had agreed, but she hated Diana too much to do it properly.
Diana didn't get a second breakfast. It wasn't until after 1 PM that she received lunch.
Her hunger had numbed her, and she had no appetite for the nutritious meal.
Tessa looked at her and said, "Ms. Spencer, I'll be back in an hour to collect the dishes. If you haven't eaten, Evelyn won't eat either."
"You!"
Diana clenched her fists, her jaw tight. She could easily knock Tessa out.
She couldn't fight Charles, but she could handle an ordinary woman.
But thinking of Evelyn, she relaxed her grip and picked up the tray.
Tessa was startled by Diana's fierce look. Was she really that intimidating?
But as Diana started eating, Tessa regained her smugness.
'All bark and no bite,' she thought.
Diana took a couple of bites and said coldly, "Go bring her some food."
Tessa raised an eyebrow and replied nonchalantly, "We'll see about that after you finish eating."
With that, she closed the door and left.
Diana ate her meal with a sense of humiliation; it tasted nothing like it usually did.
Normally, she ate slowly, taking about an hour to finish a meal. But to ensure Evelyn got food as soon as possible, she forced herself to finish in just fifteen minutes.
When she was done, she pounded on the door from the inside, continuing for nearly five minutes before Tessa finally came over, cursing under her breath.
