Chapter 188 Contract
Her voice was soft, with a touch of motherly warmth.
Since Nathan thought she was doing well, she would use that perception to make him feel even more afraid.
Diana pulled her hand back, her eyes turning sharp again. "Mr. Williams, what do you think Charles would do?"
That was when Nathan realized they had bribed the doctor to abort the child.
Looking back, it was so stupid. Why didn't they use Diana's situation back then? Maybe they could've gotten more from the Percy family.
Seeing his regret, Diana smirked, "Mr. Williams, you regret it, don't you? But I know you. You never think you're wrong. If you could go back, you'd just kill the younger me. Am I right?"
She paused, her tone a mix of statement and self-mockery. "Actually, I'm already dead. I died long ago when your family was happy, and I could only guard my mother's tombstone."
A tissue was handed to her from the side, and Robert's concerned voice said, "Don't be sad, we're all here with you now."
Diana touched her cheek and realized she had been crying without knowing it. She couldn't tell if it was the lingering emotions of the original Diana or if she had been Diana for so long that she had fully immersed herself in the role.
She took the tissue, wiped her tears, and pulled herself together.
Nathan, with his head down, didn't notice her change.
After a moment, he finally looked up, struggling to speak, "I agree to transfer the shares, but you have to get me out of here. And the shares aren't free; I need money."
Robert frowned. Every time Nathan spoke, it always managed to lower his opinion of him.
"Mr. Williams, you're asking Ms. Spencer for help, and you're still talking about money?"
Diana raised her hand, signaling it was fine. "Okay, but I only have five million dollars. Is that acceptable to you, Mr. Williams?"
"You're taking advantage of me!" Nathan stood up abruptly, but the shackles on his hands pulled him back down in frustration. "15% of the shares for just five million dollars? Do you think I'm an idiot?"
"Mr. Williams, you hired someone to kill. Even though the person wasn't harmed, there's still an attempted murder charge. Do you think getting you out of the police station is easy? But it's strange, why do you dislike those old employees so much?" Diana's tone was questioning, but her eyes were exceptionally clear.
Nathan turned his head away, not daring to meet her gaze. After all, the attempted murder hid a bigger conspiracy.
"That's none of your business. I just don't like them, so what?"
He was silent for a moment, weighing whether five million dollars and freedom were worth the shares.
Diana wasn't in a hurry. She knew those shares would end up in her hands eventually, so why not have a little fun with Nathan in the meantime?
In the wild, predators often toyed with their prey if they weren't hungry before finally eating them.
She was the ruthless predator now, waiting for the herbivore in front of her to let its guard down before delivering the fatal bite.
"Mr. Williams, if you don't agree, I'll leave now. I'm a bit tired." Diana yawned lazily. This was a psychological battle, and it was a matter of who could hold out longer.
Sure enough, as she stood up to leave, Nathan suddenly spoke, "I agree."
He looked up, his tone firm. Although it was only five million dollars, it was better than nothing. No one else could help him now, so he had to take the money.
Once Diana's kid was born, Nathan would still be the grandpa. No matter what, Diana was his daughter. Even with the disownment agreement, they were still family by blood.
Thinking this, Nathan repeated, "I agree, but not a penny less than five million dollars."
As soon as he finished speaking, Robert handed over the contract and a pen, pointing to the blank space. "Then sign here."
Nathan carefully read the document but found no clause about getting him out of jail. He frowned and asked, "What does this mean? You're not getting me out?"
Diana shot him a look that was equal parts disbelief and amusement. Was he seriously asking this in the middle of a police station?
"Mr. Williams," she said, tapping a finger against her temple, her tone laced with sarcasm. "Is there something wrong with your brain?"
Nathan realized his mistake, his expression stiffening, but he still stubbornly said, "If there's no guarantee, how can I trust you?"
"Mr. Williams, the ball is in my court now. All you can do is trust me. Once I leave this room, I'll transfer five million dollars to your account. As for getting you out, I need a few days." Diana stood up, ready to leave at any moment.
Seeing his hesitation, Robert stepped forward to take back the contract. "If you're not willing, we'll leave."
Sweat beaded on Nathan's forehead as he clutched the document tightly. "I'll sign!"
With that, he quickly signed his name, warning in a low voice, "I've signed. You better keep your word, or I won't let you off. Even if I'm in jail, my wife and kid are still out there. They won't let you off."
It sounded like a threat, but it was actually a plea. Diana raised an eyebrow, saying, "Of course. Then, it's a pleasure doing business, Mr. Williams."
With that, she picked up her bag and left the interrogation room, with Robert following closely behind after retrieving the document.
"Diana! What did you make my dad sign? You heartless woman, colluding with the police! Are you deliberately bullying us?"
As soon as they stepped out, Clara's shrill voice rang out. She was being restrained by two bodyguards, her eyes red with anger, ready to give Diana a piece of her mind.
A nearby police officer, hearing her words, immediately became displeased. "This is the police station! If you keep spouting nonsense and insulting us, see what happens!"
Casey pulled back the angry officer, ignoring Clara's words, and turned to Diana. "Sorry, Ms. Spencer, we need to check what you just signed."
"Robert, since everyone wants to see, show them." Diana raised her hand, her tone calm. She knew it would be checked. And even if it wasn't, she intended to show Clara anyway.
Robert complied, taking out the document from his briefcase and shaking it to show there was nothing hidden.
"Our company has 15% of its shares with Mr. Williams, so I bought them back." Diana explained to the police, her gaze shifting to Clara with a taunting look, as if silently saying, "You now have nothing to do with the Spencer Group."
Clara gritted her teeth, aware that they were here to negotiate. But Nathan had given in so quickly. What had Diana done?
"Did you force my dad? You're so vicious!" Clara's eyes widened, and insults spewed from her mouth.
She had been watching the whole time and noticed Nathan's unusual demeanor, completely different from his usual confidence.
With an innocent expression, Diana said, "How did I threaten him? You all saw; we were just having a normal conversation."
