Chapter 455 Mission

Charles just held her, doing nothing else.

He had barely slept last night and was feeling drowsy. The scent of Diana relaxed his tense nerves, and sleepiness began to take over.

Diana, held tightly by him, dared not move. She noticed his grip loosen slightly and cautiously tried to slip out of his embrace.

As soon as she moved, Charles reflexively tightened his hold on her.

For a moment, Diana couldn't tell if he was truly asleep or just pretending.

The room was comfortably air-conditioned. Diana had been in the same position for so long that she started to feel sleepy too.

She yawned and looked down, only to see Charles' tousled head.

Annoyed, she ruffled his hair and muttered, "You're lucky I'm too tired to argue with you today. Otherwise, I'd strangle you!"

She mimicked a choking gesture, not noticing the sly smile that appeared on Charles' face.

After speaking, Diana bent her waist to create some distance between them, found a comfortable position, and closed her eyes.

Rather than struggling pointlessly, she decided to get some sleep.

That afternoon, Moon Hill Villa was quiet. The maids moved softly, careful not to disturb them.

It wasn't until dinner time that Diana's eyelids fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes.

Charles was no longer beside her. If it weren't for the faint woody scent lingering on the bed, Diana might have thought that Charles holding her was just a dream.

He must have left again.

His sudden departures were nothing new, so Diana didn't react strongly.

As she stretched, the door suddenly opened without warning.

Startled, Diana saw it was Charles and immediately frowned, "Don't you know how to knock?"

Charles looked well-rested and in a good mood. He nodded slightly but didn't apologize.

Diana held back her temper, too tired to argue, and asked, "What do you want?"

"Benjamin really wants to see you," Charles said with a smile.

Both spoke at the same time, but Diana's expression turned serious upon hearing his words.

She was very worried about Benjamin.

Although Benjamin had grown up with her, he shared some traits with Charles due to their bloodline.

Especially in handling situations, Benjamin often ended up hurting himself when he got anxious.

This time, their separation must have distressed Benjamin greatly.

Even if Charles could tolerate him, he couldn't forgive him repeatedly.

Diana could only hope Benjamin would stay calm.

"What good does it do to tell me this? Who's keeping me here?" Diana's tone was sarcastic.

Charles ignored her sarcasm and continued, "Do you want to see him? Do you want to go back to the Percy Mansion?"

Diana didn't know what he was planning. She eyed him warily but didn't answer.

Charles wasn't in a hurry. He rested one hand on the sofa's backrest and sat down.

The distance between them was about six feet, a safe distance, but Diana still felt uneasy.

"I can arrange for you two to meet. After all, Benjamin is my only nephew. But you both need to behave."

When Diana didn't respond, Charles couldn't wait to reveal his thoughts.

"No, I don't want to see him."

Diana sensed a trap and immediately raised a hand to stop him.

"He and I are just a nanny and a young master. Our contract is over, and we have no reason to meet."

Her serious demeanor made Charles laugh uncontrollably.

He lowered his head, one hand supporting his forehead, his shoulders shaking with suppressed laughter.

Diana found his laughter inexplicable and rubbed her goosebumps, shouting, "Stop laughing! What's so funny?"

"I'm laughing at how you lie with a straight face. You haven't changed a bit," Charles replied, his smile fading.

Then his expression softened, "But he's lost his father and will live with me from now on. If you two get along, that's great. When we have kids, he can play with them. If you dislike him, he'll never appear before you."

Diana's eyes widened, her face showing shock and disdain.

His last sentence was terrifying, and Diana knew Charles meant it. She quickly responded, "I don't dislike him, and he doesn't dislike me. We can meet."

"Good, then you need to complete a small task."

Charles' lips curled, his eyes gleaming like a fox watching its prey walk into a trap.

Diana realized she had been tricked.

If she said she didn't like Benjamin, she couldn't see him. If she said she did, she had to complete some damned task.

If he dared to suggest something disgusting, she'd punch his teeth out.

"What task?"

Diana leaned against the bed's headboard, the cold, hard surface making her extra alert.

Charles crossed his legs, arms spread on the sofa's backrest, and nodded toward her.

"Come here, I'll tell you."

"Can't you walk over?"

Diana snapped, irritated by his behavior.

"My legs aren't as nimble as yours. You run better," he said, his voice low, with a hint of amusement.

Mockery, blatant mockery!

Diana fumed, losing her caution, and walked over to him.

She stood with one hand on her hip, the other pointing at his nose.

"You..."

She was about to curse when he grabbed her finger, playfully squeezing her fingertip.

His voice teasing, "See, you came over."

Diana knew she had been played again. Angrily, she tried to pull her hand back, but Charles held it firmly.

He grasped her fingers, raising her palm, and kissed the back of her hand.

What should have been a graceful gesture felt more like flirting. He stared at Diana, his gaze intense, lips lingering on her skin, almost burning a hole.

"Task is simple."

His lips brushed her skin, his voice a murmur.

He pressed his cheek to her palm, absorbing its warmth and scent, looking up at her with deep affection, his lips curling, "Just obediently be my wife."
