Chapter 193 Asking for Opinions
"Ms. Spencer, you gotta eat more. The baby in your belly's probably hungry too," Evelyn said softly as she set down the plate.
Diana was at the dining table, nibbling on a small piece of bread. Out of the blue, she asked, "Jacob, how long is Charles gonna be on his business trip?"
Jacob, who was nearby, was caught off guard. He thought, 'Why's Diana suddenly curious about this? Does she miss Charles?'
The length of Charles's business trips was a mystery to the staff. Only Nolan might know. So Jacob replied honestly, "I don't know. Mr. Percy's trips can be as short as a day or two, or as long as a few months. Ms. Spencer, are you missing Mr. Percy?"
Diana almost choked on her bread and quickly sipped some juice to clear her throat.
"No, just curious. Jacob, I need to go out for a few days and stay somewhere else."
She was asking about Charles's schedule to plan her own outing better.
Jacob frowned. Going out was one thing, but staying out seemed risky, especially since she was pregnant. What if something happened?
Seeing his hesitation, Diana added, "I just need some fresh air. I'll take two bodyguards and Evelyn with me. Nothing will happen."
Evelyn, unsure of the plan but supportive, said, "Don't worry. I'll be with Ms. Spencer."
Jacob couldn't say no when he saw the determined looks on their faces. But for Diana's safety, he decided to check with Charles.
"Ms. Spencer, let me ask Mr. Percy."
Diana's mood dropped at the mention of Charles. Since that incident, she couldn't expect anything good from him.
Jacob noticed her change in mood and got a bit anxious. He pulled out his phone and dialed Charles's number right in front of her.
As soon as the call connected, Jacob handed the phone to Diana, signaling her to talk.
Diana tensed up, unsure what to say. But then a sweet female voice answered.
"Who are you?" Diana checked the name "Charles" on the screen, making sure Jacob hadn't dialed the wrong number.
But how could a woman be answering Charles's phone?
The woman paused for a moment, then continued, "Are you looking for Charles? He's in the shower. I'll have him call you back when he's done, okay?"
The woman didn't say who she was, but it was clear she was close to Charles.
Charles said he was on a business trip, but he was actually with another woman.
No wonder he was so affectionate before; he was just in heat.
Diana's expression darkened, and she said coldly, "No need. Just tell him I'm staying out for a few days. If he has a problem, he can call me."
"Okay."
Diana quickly hung up and handed the phone back to Jacob. "If he disagrees, he'll call."
Since the call wasn't on speaker, Evelyn and Jacob didn't know the details. They just assumed Charles was busy and someone else answered.
Jacob took back the phone and, seeing Diana's displeased face, tried to comfort her. "When Mr. Percy's busy, Mr. Smith also answers his calls. We'll know Mr. Percy's opinion soon."
"Okay." Diana sighed internally, feeling a strong sense of reluctance.
She wasn't looking forward to talking to Charles. Did it even matter if it was him or not?
In the country of Celestria.
In the hotel corridor, Claire was holding a suit jacket and a man's phone in her right hand. Her ears were red, her eyes full of excitement, and she was trembling with anticipation.
She had just received a call. Although the contact name was Jacob, Claire immediately recognized Diana's voice. What a coincidence.
The three of them had just returned to the hotel not long ago, and Charles had left his suit jacket in the car, asking Nolan to retrieve it.
But Nolan suddenly had a stomachache and urgently needed to use the restroom, so he handed the jacket to Claire.
Just as Claire was about to return the jacket to Charles, the phone in the jacket pocket rang. She originally intended to tell this "Jacob" that Charles wasn't available. But upon hearing Diana's voice, she quickly made up a subtle lie.
After hanging up, Claire deleted the call record completely, as if nothing had happened. She paused to calm down in the corridor, then donned a gentle smile and walked towards Charles's room.
After knocking, a deep voice came from inside. "Come in."
Claire's eyes flickered as she slowly pushed open the door.
Charles was sitting on the sofa, his tall figure stretched out, his long legs extending beyond the coffee table.
Unlike his serious demeanor during work, his tie was casually thrown aside, and the top three buttons of his shirt were undone, revealing a hint of his collarbone. Charles was holding a burning cigarette, the smoke swirling around his handsome face.
Claire was momentarily stunned, forgetting why she was there.
Hearing the door but no movement, Charles frowned and turned his head. He asked, "Why are you here?" Seeing it wasn't Nolan, his frown deepened, "Where's Nolan?"
Claire snapped back to reality and lifted the jacket in her arms. "Mr. Smith suddenly felt unwell, probably from something he ate, so he asked me to bring this to you. I'm sorry to disturb you."
Nolan knew Charles's personality well and usually handled such matters personally, not delegating them to others. This time was indeed an exception, as Nolan was still struggling in the restroom.
Hearing this reason, Charles's expression softened a bit, and he extinguished the half-burned cigarette in the ashtray. "Leave it and you can go."
Claire nodded, quickly placing the jacket on the sofa and turning to leave. But as she reached the door, Charles called out to her.
Claire paused, swallowing nervously, afraid he had noticed something wrong with the phone.
"You don't need to be so nervous. Come here." Seeing her standing there in a daze, Charles urged.
Hearing this, Claire breathed a sigh of relief and walked over to Charles, asking, "What is it, Mr. Percy?"
Charles covered his mouth with a fist, coughing lightly. "Do you have someone you like?"
He had asked Nolan this question before, but Nolan clearly knew nothing about it. A beautiful woman like Claire should have a more eventful romantic past.
But as soon as he finished speaking, Claire's calm demeanor changed, her cheeks blushed. Her eyes were full of disbelief, "Charles, what did you say?"
Charles's expression remained calm as he repeated, "Do you have someone you like?"
Claire stammered, "No, no." But looking at Charles's face, she gathered her courage and said, "Yeah, there's someone I like."
