Chapter 523 Loyal Servant

Seeing Charles looking so defeated, Diana couldn't help but chuckle to herself. It's just wiping his body, what's the big deal?

Charles had made her do far worse things.

After finishing with his upper body, Diana finally let him off the hook.

She heard the sound of water splashing as she carried the basin away.

Only then did Charles slowly open his eyes, his ears red as if filled with blood.

He turned his head towards the bathroom, and soon Diana returned with another basin of water.

"This time, I'm not wiping your body. I'm going to trim your beard. It's really bothering me."

Charles didn't resist this time.

He watched as Diana squeezed shaving foam onto his face, spreading it carefully like she was frosting a cake, and then waited a moment before starting to shave him bit by bit.

Diana bent over the bed, one hand holding Charles's chin, the other skillfully maneuvering the razor.

Her hair was tied up, but a few strands mischievously fell down, brushing against Charles's chest with her movements, making him feel a tickle in his heart.

Unable to resist, he gently lifted those few strands of hair, only to receive a puzzled look from Diana. Almost instinctively, he tucked the strands behind her ear.

Diana paused, their gazes meeting in mid-air, sparking a small, bright connection.

Charles's lips moved slightly, and he said dryly, "Your hair fell down. It was tickling me."

Diana acknowledged with a nod, not making a fuss, and continued shaving.

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

Diana cleared her throat and raised her voice, "Come in."

As the door opened, Nolan stood at the entrance, holding breakfast. He took a step into the room and couldn't help but ask, "Ms. Spencer, how is Mr. Percy..."

But as he took in the scene in the room, Nolan froze, instinctively turning away, unable to look.

Diana had intended to talk to him once he sat down, but seeing him standing at the door with his hands full, she asked in confusion.

"Nolan, what are you doing? Come over here, your boss is awake."

Charles, preoccupied with his interaction with Diana, had completely forgotten to ask who Nolan was.

He grabbed Diana's arm, his cold eyes filled with confusion and a hint of helplessness.

Diana finished the last stroke, finally satisfied. Now Charles looked refreshed, no longer like the defeated stray dog he had been.

"Mr. Percy, you're finally awake. I was so worried about you."

Seeing Charles's refreshed appearance, Nolan's throat tightened, tears welling up in his eyes.

To give them some space, Diana wiped Charles's face clean and picked up the basin to make room for Nolan. But a hand grabbed her clothes.

Charles's voice was dry, "Stay."

Diana raised the basin, "I'm just going to empty this. This is Nolan Smith, your assistant. He's been with you for many years. He's trustworthy."

But Charles was insistent, "I don't know him. What if he's like the people from yesterday, here to kill me? You stay. I only know you."

Nolan, hearing his boss's childish words and remembering what he had heard on the phone last night, lowered his eyes, "I'll take care of it."

Nolan grabbed the basin, emptied it in the sink, and quickly returned.

Diana was still being held by Charles, the fabric of her clothes crumpled in his grip, yet he was reluctant to let go.

She found it amusing, freeing her clothes from his grasp, and sat by the bed.

"You don't remember me either, so why trust me? Nolan has done a lot for you. If you remember, you should give him a raise."

Charles stared at her moving lips, feeling a surge of displeasure as she spoke on behalf of the stranger.

A 17-year-old boy couldn't hide such emotions, and he said jealously, "It's different. You're my wife, family. No matter how loyal a subordinate is, they're still just a subordinate. If someone offers them better conditions, they'll leave."

Nolan, returning from the bathroom, heard everything.

Diana noticed Nolan's discomfort and explained, "He has amnesia, only remembering things before he was kidnapped at 17. He even forgot me. Nolan, don't take it to heart."

Nolan nodded, then pulled up a chair and sat by the bed, "Mr. Percy, it's normal that you don't recognize me. We first met when you were in your twenties."

Nolan began recounting their first meeting.

Back then, he wasn't a business elite, just a poor kid worried about tuition.

Nolan's parents had divorced early, each starting new families, leaving him unwelcome. He lived with his grandparents, who were in poor health, and the family struggled.

To change his fate, Nolan studied hard, hoping to give his grandparents a better life.

He worked during holidays to earn money.

But when he received his first paycheck, excited to buy gifts for his grandparents, he was robbed.

A group of thugs cornered him in an alley, beating him mercilessly.

Just then, amidst the screams, the punches stopped.

Someone spoke, "Are you still alive? Get up."

Nolan opened his eyes to see a young man surrounded by several men in black. It was Charles who had saved him.

"Thank you. What's your name? How can I repay you?"

Charles squinted at the emblem on Nolan's uniform, recognizing it as the best high school in Evergreen City. He was still a student.

He had his men collect the money and sent Nolan home.

Seeing the dilapidated house, Charles's expression softened, and he said, "I'm Charles Percy. Do you know the Percy Group? I'll soon be its owner. Study hard and come work for me in the future."

With that, he left like a gust of wind. Nolan sat in a daze, thinking it was all a dream, until he checked his money and found a card with a password.

He tried repaying many times, but Percy Group employees always refused.

Nolan had no choice but to follow Charles's advice, study hard, and work for him as repayment.

That's why, when news of Charles's injury spread and Percy Group employees wavered, Nolan remained steadfast.

After hearing the story, Diana understood why Nolan was so loyal to Charles. It was a bond formed in his youth.

Charles looked at the sorrowful Nolan, even after hearing the story, he had no memory of him.

"I understand. You're my assistant, so you must be very capable?"
