Chapter 503 Cooperation

Jacob and the pastry chef watched the group's interaction, smiling quietly.

Instead of teaching them how to bake a cake, the pastry chef seemed more like a guide for the three of them.

She only assigned tasks, speaking more if they asked questions, but staying silent otherwise. When their cakes turned out misshapen, she would explain why.

If it were any other customers, this kind of teaching would have gotten her fired long ago.

But the three of them were having so much fun baking that they didn't mind.

After two failed attempts, a perfect cake base finally emerged from the oven.

The kitchen was filled with the sweet aroma of cake. Benjamin looked at the freshly baked cake, practically drooling.

The pastry chef pushed over the cream and decorating tools, saying, "Now you can decorate the cake however you like. Just have fun with it."

"Benjamin, what do you want?" Diana asked, since he was the main character.

Although this cake wasn't a birthday cake, it was the first one they had made together as a family, which made it special.

Benjamin's face was serious as he glanced at Charles and replied, "I want all three of us to be on the cake."

"Making 3D figures is a bit challenging for beginners. You could try drawing with the cream," the pastry chef suggested.

Benjamin nodded, taking the piping bag and tentatively squeezing a bit of cream onto the cake.

"Great job, Benjamin! You got some cream out!" Diana praised him enthusiastically.

Charles, however, said coolly, "Did you expect him to squeeze out a cow instead?"

Diana shot him a glare before turning her attention back to Benjamin, eager to see his next move.

Benjamin held the piping bag with one hand and steadied his wrist with the other to prevent shaking.

His serious concentration was even more intense than when he was coding.

After that initial bit of cream, Benjamin grew bolder. With a few more moves, he drew a simple cartoon face with small eyes and a straight-line mouth.

He paused, seemingly thinking about his next step, then looked at Charles before adding a mustache to the face.

Everyone realized that the face was meant to be Charles.

Charles's eyebrow twitched, and he instinctively touched his upper lip. He didn't have a mustache!

Since Diana had returned, he had been very conscious of his appearance and never let his facial hair grow.

"Benjamin, I don't have a mustache."

"I know, but it's just an artistic expression. You can think of it as the mustached version of you in my mind," Benjamin said, satisfied with his cartoon.

He then handed the piping bag to Diana, "Ms. Spencer, you draw me. I want to be in the middle!"

Benjamin drew Charles, Diana would draw Benjamin... which meant Charles had to draw Diana.

Charles quickly forgot about the mustache and started thinking about how to make Diana look good.

Diana took the piping bag, a bit surprised. She had thought her part was done, but now she was in the spotlight. Seeing the cartoon version of Charles, she couldn't help but laugh.

To be honest, Benjamin's drawing wasn't very good, and the mustache only made it barely recognizable as a man.

But after laughing, she felt a bit worried. She might draw even worse than Benjamin.

Beside her, Benjamin's expectant eyes silently urged her on. Diana took a deep breath and finally started drawing.

She mimicked Benjamin's style but made the face smaller and added a smile.

"How's this?" she asked.

Both mother and son's skills weren't great, but Benjamin was very supportive, clapping and suggesting, "Great! Now write my initials here."

Diana nodded. The initials would help identify the drawings.

After writing Benjamin's initials, she hesitated a bit before adding Charles's as well.

Although the drawings didn't look like them, the consistent style made it work.

"That's ugly," Charles's cool voice cut in as they admired their work.

Diana's face fell, and she glared at him, "Do you think you can do better? We're beginners, and this is pretty good."

"Yes, for beginners, it's very good," the pastry chef chimed in to smooth things over.

Charles lifted his chin, took the piping bag from Diana, and motioned for her to step aside. It was his turn to show off.

Diana, both annoyed and amused, swapped places with him, "Fine, let's see what you can do."

She watched Charles intently, ready to mock him at the slightest mistake.

However, Charles had a knack for this. The soft cream lines obeyed his hand, and in a few strokes, he drew a cartoon figure.

Diana blinked, momentarily stunned.

Though the lines were simple, it was clear he had drawn her, even capturing her hairstyle for the day.

"Mr. Percy, you're really good," Jacob genuinely praised.

Charles switched colors and continued refining the drawing.

Unlike the quick five-minute sketches of the others, Charles took much longer.

Under everyone's gaze, the cake was finally complete.

The three cartoon figures on top had distinctly different styles, with Diana's figure standing out.

Charles set down the piping bag, crossed his arms, and raised an eyebrow at the two of them.

Benjamin didn't notice that Charles's skill had overshadowed his own. He just thought Charles had drawn his mommy beautifully.

He gave a sincere thumbs-up and praised, "Mr. Percy, you're amazing. This is so pretty."

Charles patted his head, his words carrying a deeper meaning, "She was already pretty."

He then looked at Diana, waiting for her reaction.

Diana avoided his gaze, turning her head. His stare made her uncomfortable, and she stammered, "Impressive."

Jacob and the pastry chef showered Charles with praise, almost calling him a cake master.

With the cake decorated, Benjamin's thoughts turned to eating.

He licked his lips and asked, "Can I eat it now?"

"Yes," Diana replied.

Benjamin pointed to the part he had drawn of Charles, "I want to eat Mr. Percy."

Before Diana could respond, Charles said, "Then I'll eat Diana."

Diana pretended not to catch the double meaning in his words and discreetly pinched his side.

After venting her frustration, she began cutting the cake.
