Chapter 91 Decision

Diana felt a wave of relief wash over her when Evelyn told her the baby was still okay, but she couldn't help but wonder, "Is a fetus really that tough?"

Noticing the tears still in Evelyn's eyes, Diana reached out and gently patted her head. "I'm alright now, no need to worry."

They hugged for a bit, and then Diana's stomach growled. Billy quickly grabbed an insulated lunch box, looking a bit shy. "I figured you'd be hungry when you woke up. The Richardson Family's chef made this. I asked Evelyn, and it's all your favorite stuff."

Diana nodded and didn't stand on ceremony. Her mouth tasted bitter, and her throat was sore, making it hard to talk. "I'm gonna freshen up first."

As she got up, Evelyn helped her. When Diana came back, Billy and Robert had already set the table. She noticed someone was missing and asked, "Where's Isolde?"

"Ms. Porter took Cecil back after visiting you yesterday. She said she's swamped and will come by once she's free," Evelyn said, stirring the soup to the right temperature and placing it in front of Diana.

Diana nodded, a bit surprised. 'Usually, if Isolde's busy, she leaves Cecil with Evelyn without a second thought. Why'd she take him this time?'

Her hunger took over, and she started sipping the soup Evelyn handed her.

Seeing Billy and Robert still watching her, Diana said, "I'm good now, you guys can go do your thing."

Billy wanted to stay, but Diana saw right through him. "The Richardson Group must be swamped. Evelyn's here, and we can stay in touch by phone."

"Alright, Diana, take care. If you need anything, just holler." Billy didn't stick around. His phone was blowing up with messages, not just from work but also from his family. But Billy wasn't that high school kid anymore. The Richardson Family couldn't control him now.

Billy left, but Robert stayed. He'd been away for a while, and the law firm's stuff was mostly sorted. During Diana's coma, he also wrapped up the company's issues.

As Diana ate, Robert started updating her. "The Spencer Group's cash flow bounced back after you left the Percy Mansion, and all the pressure from the Percy Group is off."

Diana nodded, thinking it was worth begging Charles. If he didn't keep his word, she'd strangle him, even if it meant going down with him.

Robert was curious about how Diana got Charles to back off this time. "When we picked you up, you reeked of booze. Did you have a drinking contest with Mr. Percy?"

Diana took a sip of water, glanced at him, and said, "He needed to outdrink me? He just watched me drink. I almost threw up everything afterward. I will never touch alcohol again."

Evelyn muttered, "What a jerk, making a pregnant woman drink!"

Diana replied, "He doesn't know about the baby, and I'm not telling him."

She didn't feel much about it. Charles was always sneaky and ruthless. Making her drink as an apology was almost kind by his standards. But the damage Charles did to Diana was real.

After eating, Diana's mind cleared up. The thought of Charles being the baby's father made her uneasy. She couldn't keep this child.

"Did the doctor say when I can leave?" Diana asked.

Robert looked a bit awkward. "The doctor said you have symptoms of a threatened miscarriage and need to be observed for a few more days."

"What if I don't want this child now?" Diana's tone was as casual as if she were saying, "I don't want to eat this dish."

Evelyn was shocked. "Ms. Spencer, are you talking about an abortion?"

Diana nodded. She wanted to get it done right away. She'd been on the fence a few days ago, but after visiting the Percy Mansion, she made up her mind.

Seeing she was serious, Robert turned grave. "If you have this child, it might be easier to ask Charles for favors in the future."

"Do you really think if I use the child to threaten Charles, he wouldn't kill both me and the baby without a second thought?" Diana shot him a look. "Besides, you know what Charles has done. It's a miracle I don't kill him myself, let alone have his child."

Robert realized he misspoke and awkwardly coughed. "Sorry."

Diana didn't dwell on it but heard Evelyn say softly, "But Ms. Spencer, this is also your child."

Diana replied, "Evelyn, it's my body, and I make the decisions. This child was an accident, and I just need to deal with it." She put down her utensils, clearly annoyed. 'Why does everyone forget I'm the one who's pregnant?'

The room got tense for a moment. Then Diana's phone rang; it was Coralie. Coralie only called when something important was up at the company. Diana took a deep breath and answered, "Hey, Coralie, what's going on?"

"Ms. Spencer, finally! I've been trying to reach you," Coralie sounded relieved.

Diana hadn't been to the office for over a week. They could reach her a few days ago, but she'd been off the grid recently.

"I've been dealing with some stuff. Is there a problem at the company?" Diana asked.

"Yeah, two members of your team want to transfer to another team," Coralie said.

Diana was surprised. She didn't demand loyalty, but her team was doing way better than Clara's. 'Why would they want to transfer now?'

Still, Diana didn't stop them. "Let them transfer, but make sure they know they can't come back. Coralie, explain that we're in a competitive situation with Ms. Williams, and I respect their choice."

Coralie was relieved, thinking Diana would be mad. "Got it. I'll start recruiting replacements. Can you interview them?"

"Sure, I'll come to the office the day after tomorrow." After the call, Diana noticed the two in the room staring at her.

Evelyn hesitated. "Ms. Spencer, the doctor said you need more rest. Is the company matter urgent?"

Robert looked serious, also worried about her health. "If it's not something you need to handle personally, I can take care of it. You should rest and recover."

They were genuinely concerned, so Diana let go of her earlier annoyance. She smiled faintly. "I know my limits. I won't do anything to harm myself. Don't worry."

At the Spencer Group, after a crazy week of non-stop work, the office finally had some downtime. Axel had been swamped with PR stuff lately, and with nothing on his plate today, he was feeling kinda bored.

Just as Axel's throat started to itch and he got a craving, he grabbed the lighter on his desk and headed out. The rooftop upstairs was always open, and employees usually went there to eat or chill for a bit.

Axel had just lit his cigarette and taken a couple of puffs when someone grabbed his shoulder from behind, making him choke and cough.
