Chapter 527 The Best Candidate

Charles paused for a moment, then covered his mouth and coughed twice.

"You can come to me and recommend a suitable candidate."

"Ms. Spencer's been running the company like a champ. Mr. Percy, just focus on getting better."

"Yeah, we're all following her lead."

The shareholders, who had been so aggressive just moments ago, were now all sucking up.

With Charles out of the picture, they could try to trip up Diana, but those were sneaky moves. No one dared to mess around in front of Charles.

The meeting room was suddenly filled with blessings and flattery.

Diana rubbed her temples. With Charles having lost his memory, only Eugene could have prompted him to say those words.

Although there was a risk of exposure, Zachary's plan had been disrupted.

Charles was still alive and kicking, which must have made Zachary furious.

As expected, Zachary, who had been sitting quietly, clenched his fists, crumpling the documents in his hands.

The next second, Charles raised an eyebrow and said softly, "I heard my brother's back. It's been a while."

Nolan quickly adjusted the camera to capture Zachary's livid face.

Almost instantly, Zachary's expression relaxed, and he waved at the camera, "Charles, long time no see. Miss me?"

Anyone unaware of the situation might have thought they were a pair of loving brothers.

Seeing Zachary on the screen, who had grown up quite a bit since his memory, Charles felt a bit lost.

It was Eugene's light cough that brought him back to reality.

Seventeen-year-old Charles's impression of Zachary was still stuck in middle school.

Zachary had been spoiled by their parents and was always causing trouble. In middle school, he got into a lot of trouble, and the family always had to clean up after him.

Now that he was grown, Zachary had somehow evolved into a gentleman.

"Listen to Diana about the company's matters. You've been abroad for a long time and don't understand many things. You can ask her."

Charles covered his mouth and coughed lightly, his words infuriating Zachary.

What did he mean by "listen to her"? Wasn't he abroad for so many years because of him?

As Charles finished speaking, some of the shareholders looked as if they had swallowed a fly.

It seemed like Charles had become even more sarcastic after his injury.

"Zachary, can you hear me?"

When no one answered, Charles repeated himself.

This time, even Eugene couldn't help but cover his mouth and laugh, leaving Charles looking puzzled.

Zachary swallowed his frustration and forced a smile at the camera.

"Of course, Diana is part of our family. I will definitely listen to her. But Charles, I still look forward to you returning to the company."

In response, Charles lowered his eyes, looking indifferent, "I'll return once I'm fully recovered. Alright, if there's nothing else, this meeting is adjourned."

With that, he ended the video call without any hesitation.

After hanging up, he looked up at Eugene, "How did I do? Any flaws?"

Eugene finally let out a hearty laugh and gave him a thumbs up, "Perfect. You were just like your usual self. Maybe even a bit ruder."

Charles looked momentarily confused. He had been acting based on Eugene's description of his personality, but he was still too unfamiliar with his thirty-something self.

"Alright, stop thinking about it. The most important thing now is to help you regain your memory."

Eugene leaned back in his chair, looking at his old friend with a mix of concern and amusement.

He had thought Charles was just injured as usual, but this time it was much more serious. He had even forgotten his best friend.

"The doc said you hit your head pretty hard. Maybe if you hit it again, your memory will come back. That's how it works in TV shows, right?"

Charles shot him a dry look and replied, "I don't know about TV shows, but if I hit my head again, I'll probably just die."

Eugene chuckled at his dark humor, finding this version of Charles more amusing than before.

"Just kidding. But seriously, you need to get your memory back soon. Your brother's a real piece of work, and Diana's struggling to keep the company afloat on her own."

Hearing this, Charles's expression turned serious.

During the video call, he had seen many people in the meeting room.

To him, these shareholders were seasoned adults. If they were all against Diana, he couldn't imagine how she managed to hold on.

"I'm leaving the hospital now."

With that, Charles started to lift the blanket.

Eugene quickly pushed him back down, "Hold on, man. You can barely walk right now. Leaving the hospital would just make it easier for your brother to get rid of you."

"But I can't leave her alone."

Charles frowned and tried to struggle, but Eugene held him down firmly.

"You're really devoted. Even without your memory, you're still protecting her."

Eugene couldn't help but tease him, but he didn't loosen his grip, "Don't worry. You have allies among the shareholders. Seeing that you're okay, those restless ones will behave."

Eugene paused for a moment, then raised an eyebrow, "When you weren't amnesiac, you called me 'Chief.' Just focus on your recovery. I'll handle everything for you."

Charles looked at him skeptically. Eugene seemed very relaxed around him and knew a lot about his affairs.

But Charles thought he wouldn't take orders from someone with Eugene's personality.

Seeing his silence, Eugene felt a bit nervous. He wanted to enjoy being the leader while Charles had amnesia, hoping the seventeen-year-old Charles was easier to fool.

"Do you know how to solve the issues between Diana and me?"

Charles asked, lifting his lips.

Eugene's eyes lit up, "You're asking the right person. But you have to call me 'Chief' first, and I'll teach you how to win her back."

"Chief Eugene ."

Charles said it without hesitation. It was just a title, after all. It didn't cost him anything.

And according to what Nolan had said, Diana was very important to him. If he ever regained his memory, he didn't want to have any regrets.

However, after he called him "Chief," Eugene got so excited that he jumped up and down after getting off the chair.

The commotion was so loud that it attracted a nurse doing rounds, who scolded him to be quiet.

Only then did he calm down and turn back to Charles with a grin, "I just thought of something good, so I got a bit excited. Let's continue."

Charles didn't expose his lie, just nodded, "I had Nolan keep her here, but I don't know how to make up for the hurt I caused her before."

Eugene sat back down, rubbed his chin, and analyzed, "From what I know, Diana doesn't care about money or power. You tried to tempt her with those before, but she wasn't interested at all. But..."

Eugene glanced at Charles, pretending to be deep in thought.

"Hurry up and say it."

Charles, his curiosity piqued, couldn't help but urge him.
