Chapter 164 Setting Up the Children's Room

When Diana and Evelyn got to the door, the moving was still in full swing.

"Ms. Spencer, why'd you come down? Please step back, you might get hurt," Jacob said, rushing over when he saw her.

"Jacob, didn't you say the nursery was ready?" Diana asked, glancing at Charles with a puzzled look.

What was Charles up to now?

She hadn't expected the nursery to be ready so fast when she mentioned it this morning.

Jacob, the long-time butler at The Percy Mansion, wiped the sweat off his forehead. He knew exactly why Charles had come back.

Charles was usually so quiet and reserved. If he came back for the nursery, he must really care about the baby. However, he couldn't bring himself to ask Diana to decorate the nursery together.

Thinking about it, Jacob's weathered face broke into a smile. "It's ready, but Mr. Percy bought a ton of baby stuff. I thought you might need help, so I asked Mr. Percy to come back."

Charles listened to Jacob's shaky explanation and glanced at Diana, keeping his face emotionless.

Honestly, it seemed unlikely Charles would come back just because the butler asked him to.

But right now, Diana was totally focused on the nursery and didn't pay much attention to what he said.

She just nodded to show she got it.

Then she stood by the door, looking around the room.

It was spacious and bright, with warm colors, its own bathroom, and a walk-in closet.

Soon, the servants had moved in a dozen boxes, opening them one by one, waiting for Charles and Diana to check them out.

Nolan, sweating and looking a mess from moving stuff, retreated to Charles' side.

"Mr. Percy, everything's ready."

Charles nodded slightly, took off his coat, and loosened his tie.

He was wearing a white shirt underneath, showing off the faint outline of his muscles.

Charles slowly unbuttoned his cuffs and rolled up his sleeves, revealing his strong forearms.

He usually dressed so meticulously, with a refined but dark vibe. Now, he seemed more approachable and less distant.

Seeing Diana just standing there, Charles frowned and said, "Why are you just standing there? Get to work."

Diana snapped out of it, pouting. She had just thought Charles wasn't so annoying.

With so much stuff, besides Diana and Charles, Evelyn and Nolan pitched in too. Jacob even called a few quick-handed servants to help.

But with more people, it got chaotic fast.

"Ms. Spencer, where should this go?"

"Mr. Percy, where should this go?"

"Can this box go here?"

Diana and Charles were getting headaches from all the noise, and they almost spoke at the same time, "You guys..."

Hearing each other's voices, they looked at each other and fell silent.

Everyone's attention turned to them.

"You go ahead," Diana said, turning her head and continuing to fiddle with the items in her hands.

Seeing her so obedient, Charles felt a sense of calm. Clearing his throat, he said in a low voice, "Do as you see fit, and keep it quiet."

"Yes, Mr. Percy."

With that settled, the efficiency definitely improved.

Before they knew it, the room was filled with all sorts of baby stuff.

"Mr. Percy, Ms. Spencer, why don't you take a break?" Jacob suggested.

It had been over an hour, and they hadn't made much progress. It was going to take a while to finish, and with Diana being pregnant, it wouldn't be good if she got too tired.

"It's okay, I'm not tired." Diana squatted in front of the boxes, sorting through them. Most of the items Isolde had bought were clothes and toys, while the things Charles had bought included many new items. Each time she opened a box, it was filled with anticipation and surprise.

Seeing her smiling face, Jacob realized it was the first time he'd seen Diana's eyes light up in a long time. Thinking of this, he didn't say anything more.

"I'll have some food and drinks brought up," Jacob said.

But Nolan couldn't hold on any longer. "Mr. Percy, I can't do it anymore. I need a break."

He had been moving things and unpacking boxes, doing the most work, and was indeed exhausted.

Charles didn't stop him; he just nodded indifferently.

Nolan felt a wave of relief wash over him as he quickly exited the nursery, like he was escaping something terrifying.

Seeing Nolan couldn't hold on, Diana glanced at Evelyn. Despite her flushed face and sweat, Evelyn was still full of energy.

"Evelyn, why don't you take a break too?" Diana suggested.

Evelyn wiped her sweat, shook her head, and smiled, showing her white teeth. "No need, Ms. Spencer. This is nothing."

Back at the orphanage, she was the oldest child, and the director was elderly, so Evelyn had to do a lot herself. Setting up a nursery was nothing to her.

Saying this, she stood up and opened the last box.

Not holding it properly, the wooden boards of various lengths and thicknesses scattered all over the floor. The sound of the scattering was quite lively.

Evelyn, embarrassed, put the items down and quickly apologized, "Sorry."

Diana didn't mind, bending down to look at the wooden boards. "What is this?"

"You are so foolish," Charles said, walking over and taking a small booklet from under the boards.

It read: [Baby Crib Assembly Instructions.]

Diana's eyes lowered, and she pursed her lips. "I didn't buy it, how would I know what it is?"

Charles placed the instructions on the floor and emptied the rest of the box.

The scattered parts and boards looked like a large set of building blocks.

Diana was immediately attracted to them, eager to try assembling them herself. She squatted down, enthusiastically following the instructions to find the parts.

Jacob and Evelyn also came over to watch. The assembly process was quite complicated, requiring nails and a hammer.

Evelyn scratched her head. "Ms. Spencer, I can't understand this. I'll go back to arranging things."

However, Jacob was pleased, giving Charles a teasing look.

"Ms. Spencer, why don't you and Mr. Percy assemble it together? Mr. Percy used to love building models as a child, it's quite similar to this."

Diana rolled up her sleeves and waved her hand. "No need, it's just assembling a crib, not a big deal."

Charles, who had been working, stopped at her words and put down the board. He stood aside, arms crossed, watching Diana.

Jacob frowned at this situation. It was a rare opportunity for Charles and Diana to bond, but it wasn't going as he had imagined.

"Jacob, help me get the tools," Diana said, eagerly arranging the boards according to the instructions, interrupting Jacob's thoughts. She completely ignored Charles.

Jacob's eyes darted between Charles and Diana, and he finally relented, going downstairs to get the tools.

Charles's lips were tightly pressed, watching Diana's back in silence. A corner of plastic packaging peeked out from his clenched right hand.
