Chapter 61 Whose Fault

Diana's body, chilled by the evening breeze, slowly warmed up in Charles's embrace. Under the dim light, Charles squinted, carefully tending to Diana's wound. When he disinfected it, the pain was so intense that Diana bit her lip, trying not to cry out.

In the back seat, their breaths mingled. "Does it hurt?" Charles asked softly.

Diana stared at the wound, her brows furrowed, and snapped, "What do you think? Of course it hurts." The tension between them evaporated instantly.

Charles grabbed her wrist. "You ran off on your own. How did you cut your hand?"

"None of your business." Diana's face was tense, not understanding why Charles suddenly seemed more normal towards her now. But the feeling of helplessness and suffocation in the water just now was also because of him.

From this angle, Charles could see her cheek. Because she was angry, it appeared particularly round and full, like a sweet and juicy peach, making one want to take a bite. Charles's eyes darkened, and he looked away without a word, but his heart pounded fiercely in his chest.

Seeing that the medicine was almost applied, Diana pulled her hand back. "Mr. Percy, can you let me down now? Or do you want to keep holding me like this?" Diana's tone was mocking, deliberately saying words which Charles didn't like.

This time, Charles didn't stop her and loosened his grip. With a slight struggle, Diana got off him and moved to a corner. The two sat on opposite sides, as if separated by a thick wall.

Charles's deep voice broke the silence, "Diana, don't do anything pointless when you're with me. If you hadn't run away today, nothing would have happened."

"I should stay by your side so you can have the chance to give me away? Just like you gave me to Mr. Moore last time. Mr. Percy, once someone has experienced something like that, they become wary. If you were me, what would you do?" Diana didn't understand how Charles thought she could read his mind.

Charles replied, "These two things are different. Before, you were jealous. In order to become my date, you sent Clara to jail, so I had to teach you a lesson. Diana, as long as you behave well, I won't harm you."

Charles's brows furrowed, as if he had thought of something. "If you're so afraid I'll send you away, why did you go to Billy? You can't be Mrs. Percy, so you want to be Mrs. Richardson? Diana, don't dream. The Richardson Family won't let someone like you marry Billy."

Diana instantly became furious. She had only been discovered by Billy while escaping. She didn't know that he had a crush on her in high school.

A man she could use and a dangerous ex-husband, Diana knew who was more worth associating with. So Diana's attitude was indifferent. She crossed her arms and leaned back, but her words were particularly sharp. "So what? You don't like me, and I could still marry you. At least Billy likes me. When he inherits the Richardson Family, won't I be the hostess of the Richardson Family?"

Charles turned his head to look at Diana, his voice icy. "Diana, the Richardson Family is no match for me. Once you marry Billy, if I want, I can make you lose everything. Go ahead and try, see how comfortable it is to be Mrs. Richardson."

Charles's words were full of threats, but Diana knew he wasn't joking. If Charles wanted, the entire Richardson Family would be in his grasp; it was only a matter of time.

Diana's eyes reddened with anger, thinking bitterly, 'The Percy family is so big and powerful. Why don't they just keep Charles so busy that he can't cause trouble? Instead, they let him grow into such a tyrant, always using his power to oppress others.' She really didn't want to stay in the same space with him any longer and reached out to knock on the partition.

After a while, Nolan slowly opened the partition. Seeing Diana's angry face, Nolan knew they hadn't talked things out and apologized, "Ms. Spencer, this is all my fault. I misunderstood Mr. Percy's intentions, which led to today's situation. I sincerely apologize to you."

Charles had been pretending to nap, but hearing Nolan's words, he opened his eyes and glanced at Diana. But Diana didn't accept his apology. Her tone was stiff as she interrupted Nolan, "Stop the car."

Nolan looked troubled, his hands on the steering wheel not stopping, and he looked to Charles for help. Charles was silent for a couple of seconds and then said coldly, "Diana, don't test my patience." His words only made Diana more determined to open the car door.

She struggled with the door handle, continuing to repeat, "Stop the car! Stop the car!" If the door hadn't been locked, Diana would likely have jumped out to escape.

Charles was never a patient man, and seeing her like this, he didn't want to tolerate it any longer. He ordered in a low voice, "Stop the car!" Nolan, always obedient to Charles, immediately hit the brakes.

Diana, unprepared, almost fell over due to the inertia. Seeing the car stop, she immediately tried to open the door, but it was locked. Nolan looked at Charles again, unsure of his intentions. Charles said, "Let her out. If she likes the cold wind so much, let her enjoy it to her heart's content!"

Nolan obeyed and unlocked the door. Diana finally had the chance to get out. As soon as she stepped out, a cold wind hit her. The night was dark and cold, and Diana, wearing thin clothes, couldn't help but shiver. But she gritted her teeth and walked towards the roadside without looking back at the silver Maybach.

She would rather freeze to death than stay in the same space with Charles. When the door opened, Charles also felt the cold air outside. Originally, he had Nolan drive slowly behind Diana, waiting for her to give in and get back in the car. But they both underestimated Diana's determination. They followed her for over 20 minutes, and she didn't stop.

Diana knew they were following her. Charles's earlier behavior, combined with Nolan's words, suggested that he might have realized he misunderstood Diana and came to find her.

But if Diana wasn't cautious, she wouldn't know how she might die. All the suffering she was experiencing now was brought by Charles. 'Why does he pretend to chase me in the car, one standing, one sitting? It seems like Charles is pursuing me, but it is really a power imbalance.'

Charles didn't have to do anything. He just waited for Diana to tire and obediently return, and he would win. Diana cursed inwardly, 'Bastard! If he really wants to apologize, he should get out and walk, letting me drive home.'

Diana gritted her teeth, feeling her limbs go numb due to the cold. But she kept walking, determined not to give in! Finally, Diana saw a glimmer of hope as Robert's car approached.

Robert immediately saw the thin figure of Diana and the car following her. Fearing it was some pervert, Robert sped up and stopped in front of Diana. Robert hurriedly got out, took off his coat, and gave it to Diana, then looked warily at Charles's car.

Nolan also stopped, seeing the situation, and cautiously asked, "Mr. Percy, what now?"

"Go." With that, the car sped past the two of them.
