Chapter 468 Going to the Company

Benjamin glanced up at him but didn't say anything, just made some space.

Eugene sat down, fiddling with a puzzle piece for a bit before finally placing it.

As soon as he did, he caught Benjamin's disapproving look. Benjamin reached out, took the piece, and put it in the right spot.

The colors and lines matched perfectly, showing Eugene had put it in the wrong place.

Seeing the resemblance to Charles in Benjamin's face, Eugene felt a playful urge.

Without a word, he picked up another piece and placed it incorrectly again.

Benjamin grew more annoyed but stayed silent until Eugene made his fifth mistake. Then, with a furrowed brow, he turned to face him.

Eugene smiled innocently, "What's wrong? Keep going."

Benjamin pouted and pointed to his head, "Mister, is there something wrong up here?"

Most people would feel their authority challenged being mocked by a four-year-old, but Eugene just chuckled, clearly unfazed. "Nope, my brain's fine. I'm just not good at puzzles."

"You're an adult and can't even do a puzzle?" Benjamin pointed to the box, which indicated it was for ages 8-10.

He was only four and could do it, while Eugene was several times his age.

"Adults aren't perfect at everything. I'll get better at it when I'm younger," Eugene teased, ruffling Benjamin's soft hair, which felt like a little lamb's fleece.

Especially with that face so similar to Charles', teasing Benjamin felt just as satisfying as teasing Charles.

Benjamin dodged his hand and finally asked the crucial question, "Why are you here? Did Mr. Percy send you?"

Eugene nodded, stretching his long legs and leaning back comfortably. "Yep, he is working and didn't want you to be bored at home, so he sent me to keep you company. Touched?"

Benjamin's lips twitched slightly before he put on a serious face. "Touched? He's just keeping me locked up at home..."

Before he could finish, Eugene flicked his forehead. "You ungrateful kid, you're in a special situation. Lots of people are watching you. Charles is doing this to protect you!"

Benjamin rubbed his forehead, unable to argue, so he resorted to sarcasm. "Don't you have work? Why are you here playing with a kid?"

Thinking of Charles' project, Eugene smirked. "You're my work right now. Making you happy is my job."

Benjamin blinked and asked, "What if I'm not happy? What will you do?"

Sensing his little scheme, Eugene didn't call him out but raised an eyebrow. "What do you want to play?"

Seeing an opportunity, Benjamin's voice rose, "Computer, I want to play on the computer!"

Eugene sat up, stroking his chin in mock thought. Seeing Benjamin's eager face, he chuckled, "Sure, my office has a computer. Want to go there?"

"Office? Why not go to an internet café? They have more computers."

"Because internet cafés are full of all kinds of people. What if you run off?"

The office was different; Eugene could keep an eye on Benjamin while getting other things done.

Though it wasn't his ideal outcome, getting to use a computer was good enough. Benjamin stood up, "Alright, let's go to your office and play on the computer."

Their plan seemed simple, but Jacob was immediately concerned when he heard they were going out.

"Mr. Bailey, it's safer for Benjamin to stay home. Whatever you need, the servants can bring it. It's just a computer; no need to go so far."

If it were just about the computer, it would be easy, but Benjamin wanted to get out. He tugged at Jacob's sleeve, his eyes pleading, "Mr. Hearst, please let me go. I'm so bored at home. Mr. Percy sent this gentleman to keep me company; he must be reliable."

Feeling the weight of being labeled "reliable," Eugene straightened up.

But Jacob, knowing Eugene's reputation, still wasn't convinced. "Mr. Bailey..."

"Come on, Jacob, you know my relationship with Charles. We're close. I know this kid well. Don't worry, I promise he'll come back just as he left, not a hair out of place."

Before Jacob could protest, Eugene pulled him aside, whispering for a while, occasionally glancing at Benjamin.

Finally, after five minutes, Eugene beckoned to Benjamin, "Alright, we can go. Come with me."

Surprised at how smoothly things went, Benjamin's eyes lit up. He grabbed Eugene's hand, "Great! Thank you, sir. Thank you, Mr. Hearst."

Seeing him so happy, Jacob, who had been worried, smiled too.

Oh well, as long as the kid's happy. Eugene might seem unreliable, but Charles trusted him with Benjamin, so he must have his reasons.

Jacob quickly reassured himself, and the servants, hearing Benjamin was going out, also felt relieved.

They bustled around, packing a small bag with a tracker and snacks, slinging it over his shoulder.

Once in the car, Benjamin curiously looked around.

Charles usually traveled in low-key cars, so this flashy one of Eugene's was a first for Benjamin.

Eugene usually drove fast, but with a kid in the car, he was more cautious.

When they arrived at the Bailey Group Building, Eugene tossed the keys to the valet and led Benjamin through a private entrance.

Eugene always drew attention, but with Benjamin, the stares were even more intense.

One bold employee asked, "Mr. Bailey, who is this?"

Eugene didn't answer, just put a finger to his lips, "Shh, don't tell my brother."

The employee was stunned, already imagining this kid as Eugene's secret child.

Seeing him frozen, Eugene laughed, patting his shoulder, "Just kidding. He's a friend's kid. I'm helping out."

Eugene was at the age to settle down, but he wasn't ready for kids yet.

Given his reputation, the employee didn't doubt his joke.

Realizing the truth, the employee relaxed. If the kid were really Eugene's, he wouldn't bring him to the office.

"Mr. Bailey, you scared me."
