Chapter 505 Birthday Cake
Diana finally stopped practicing her cake-making as the sun set.
She had made five cakes, but for some reason, none of them looked as good as when the three of them worked together.
The pastry chef had been watching for a long time, and several times he had to resist the urge to step in.
Faced with the oddly shaped cakes, the experienced pastry chef could only respond diplomatically, "There's still a lot of room for improvement."
Diana pursed her lips as she looked at the cakes, finally conceding that she just didn't have a knack for baking.
Benjamin would have to settle for a less-than-perfect cake tomorrow. As long as the atmosphere was right, he would still appreciate it.
Comforting herself, Diana took off her apron and went to find Benjamin.
He had been having a great time all afternoon and was now lying on the carpet, playing with a Rubik's cube, using Snowy as a pillow.
Seeing Diana come out of the kitchen, he quickly got up and poured her a glass of water.
"Mommy, you worked hard."
With just the two of them in the living room, he felt bold enough to call her "Mommy."
Diana poked his forehead with her finger, teasingly saying, "It's all for your birthday."
"I know you're the best, Mommy. I had so much fun today, and tomorrow will be even better!"
Benjamin said as he hugged Diana's leg, acting cute.
Seeing him so happy, Diana couldn't help but smile.
She crouched down and gently touched Benjamin's face, whispering, "It's been tough for you, being here alone."
Benjamin blinked, his expression serious, "It's okay. Everyone here is nice to me. It's just that I miss you."
But today was different. Not only could he be with Diana, but he also felt the warmth of having both parents around.
He didn't say this out loud, though. He knew his mommy might not like him thinking that way.
Thinking of this, Benjamin tugged on Diana's sleeve and asked, "Are we going to the amusement park tomorrow? We didn't get to play properly last time."
He was referring to the time they had to escape. It was more like a nightmare than a fun day.
"We're going, but it's all arranged by him. I don't know which amusement park it will be. You can play all the rides you want."
All the birthday activities were planned by Charles. Knowing his style, he probably booked the whole place.
Benjamin's eyes lit up with interest, "I want to ride the roller coaster and the giant swing!"
"Sure, but aren't you usually scared of those thrilling rides?"
"Mr. Percy will be with me. Dean doesn't dare to ride them. If he could join me, I'd be willing to try."
Diana couldn't help but laugh, "That depends on whether he wants to. Charles might be scared too."
She glanced towards the door, realizing it was almost dinner time, but Charles hadn't come back yet. Was he working late again?
Just as she was wondering, Jacob brought the answer, "Mrs. Percy, Benjamin, it's time for dinner. Mr. Percy said he'll be back very late tonight, so you don't need to wait for him."
Benjamin puffed out his cheeks, a bit disappointed. He had planned to ask Charles if he was afraid of the thrilling rides.
"Alright, let's go eat. We'll rest early tonight and have fun tomorrow."
Diana saw his disappointment and patted his head to comfort him.
After dinner, they didn't play much and went to their rooms to rest.
Late at night, a Maybach quietly drove into the estate.
Diana was half-asleep, feeling a warm, ticklish sensation on her face. She opened her eyes slightly and saw Charles leaning down to kiss her.
He had just finished washing up, his hair still wet, with droplets falling onto Diana's neck and sliding into her clothes, making her shiver.
She frowned and pushed him away, her voice still husky from sleep, "Don't bother me, I'm so tired."
Charles responded softly, grabbing her hand, "I was really busy today and couldn't make it back for dinner."
Diana pulled her hand back, closing her eyes and dismissing him, "Doesn't matter. I can eat more without you."
She muttered, "I have to get up early to make a cake tomorrow. No time for chit-chat."
Charles chuckled, pulling the blanket up to her shoulders and kissing her ear, "Goodnight."
Diana turned away, giving him a cold shoulder.
Golden sunlight streamed through the window, accompanied by the noisy sound of cicadas.
Diana's eyelashes fluttered as she finally opened her eyes.
She rubbed her eyes, still groggy.
She reached out to the side, finding it empty. Even the blanket was cold, indicating he had left a while ago.
She remembered it was Benjamin's birthday and she needed to make a cake.
Oh no! The cake!
With the sun so high, what time was it?
Diana snapped out of her daze, looking at the time, realizing it was almost lunchtime.
She slapped herself, frustrated at having slept so much.
But then she remembered she had set an alarm. Checking her phone, she saw all the alarms had been canceled.
"Charles! Are you crazy?"
She shouted, but thanks to the good soundproofing, no one else heard.
Diana ruffled her hair in frustration, then stood up with a look of resignation.
Despite everything, she still had to make a birthday cake for Benjamin.
But it seemed their trip to the amusement park would be delayed.
Diana calmed herself and quickly got ready, completing her usual 20-minute routine in just 10 minutes.
When she went downstairs, she saw a packaged cake box on the table.
The box was transparent, allowing her to see the cake inside.
It was much more refined than the ones she made yesterday, heart-shaped with three cartoon characters that were easily recognizable.
Diana's mouth hung open in surprise. Did the pastry chef make it?
She had mentioned wanting to make a cake early today.
Just then, a voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Mrs. Percy, you're up. Did you sleep well?"
Jacob greeted her as usual, noticing her gaze on the cake.
He explained, "Mr. Percy made this early this morning. You can eat it when you get back from the amusement park."
"Charles made it?"
Diana's eyes widened at the key information.
"Yes, Mr. Percy got up early to make it. It took him over three hours. But then he had urgent business at the company. He'll meet you at the amusement park."
Jacob answered, unable to hide his smile.
