Chapter 406 Visiting the Sick

Charles stared at him like he was an idiot, wondering how he could ask such a dumb question.

"She's my wife. If she's not coming back to me, where else would she go?"

Eugene had expected a confident answer from Charles, but hearing his response, he looked constipated, his face scrunched up, unsure of what to say.

After a long pause, he finally spoke, "You two got divorced. You haven't remarried yet. She's not technically your wife."

Charles nodded slightly, a hint of impatience showing, "Do you ever stop talking?"

"Whatever makes you happy."

Eugene sighed deeply, recalling the madness that consumed Charles after Diana's death.

For years, he never spoke of it, and everyone assumed he had recovered.

But only Charles knew the truth, with his diagnosis and various medications proving his mental illness.

So what? Maya said he was almost better, and now that Diana was back, they would be together again, through life and death.

"Let's change the subject. The Percy family and the White family have been partners for years. The White Group isn't what it used to be. Do you think they'll just accept you dumping Stella like that?"

"I've already had Nolan handle the White family."

Charles had held the reins of the Percy Group for years. If he could build up the White Group, he could certainly destroy it.

The White family had better be smart and take what they could get, or they'd face the consequences.

Eugene wanted to ask more, but Charles' mind was still in the hospital room.

He bent down, extinguished his cigarette, and put the still-warm butt in Eugene's pocket, startling him into quickly fishing it out.

The warmth quickly faded in his hand, and Eugene hurriedly threw it into the trash.

After that, he pulled out his phone and made a call.

The phone rang twice before a gentle voice answered, "Hello."

"Dr. Garcia, this is Eugene Bailey. Has Charles called you recently?"

On the other end, Maya paused before replying, "That's patient confidentiality. I can't disclose that."

Eugene scratched his head. These therapists always had this issue. Treating a patient effectively required cooperation from friends and family, yet the doctors wouldn't share anything.

"Dr. Garcia, I'm not trying to pry into his privacy."

Eugene hesitated before cautiously asking, "Has he been cooperating with his treatment lately? Just a yes or no."

Maya had a lot to say but was bound by regulations, so she kept it brief, "Mr. Percy is the same as always. Mr. Bailey, keep an eye on him. That's all I can say."

With that, Maya quickly hung up, afraid Eugene would ask more.

Though Maya hadn't said much, Eugene gleaned some information from her words.

Charles wasn't better yet.

Eugene had inquired several times when Charles first saw the doctor. The key to his illness was Diana, but now that she was back, why wasn't he improving?

In the hospital room, Benjamin clung to Diana's hand, whispering, "Mommy, maybe you should go back. It's okay if you don't take me. I'll come see you when I grow up."

His words were smooth, but the tears in his eyes betrayed his true feelings.

Diana laughed, her chest aching, her expression twisted in pain. "Do you think the Percy Mansion is a boarding school? You're so young. What if I die before you grow up?"

Benjamin quickly covered her mouth, sternly saying, "Mommy, don't say that. It's bad luck!"

Diana pulled his little hand away and pretended to spit, as if to ward off the bad luck.

"Okay, but you have to believe me, this is nothing."

Diana patted his head, comforting him.

Being around Charles always brought problems, but today was just a minor injury, much better than before.

Benjamin nodded, his dislike for the Percy family growing.

He had been playing at home with Snowy when he overheard Jacob's call about his mommy being in the hospital.

He had panicked. Diana rarely got hurt on missions, so an injury bad enough for the hospital had to be serious.

Sure enough, when he arrived, he saw Diana pale and weak, lying in bed like a wilted flower.

Benjamin pressed his little face against Diana's hand, feeling the warmth, and whispered, "Okay."

The next moment, Charles entered, raising an eyebrow at the scene.

Benjamin was always wary of strangers. He and Diana had a good relationship, but this scene looked more like mother and son than a rich kid and a servant.

Old memories resurfaced for Charles. He remembered being like this with his mother as a child.

The seed of suspicion was planted, though Diana and Benjamin were unaware.

Seeing him enter, Diana patted Benjamin's back, signaling him to get up.

"Mr. Percy."

Benjamin obediently stood up, bowing slightly as he greeted Charles.

"Benjamin, are you..."

Charles looked down, his gaze serious.

Benjamin met his eyes, shivering slightly, then suppressed his fear and softly asked, "What is it?"

The room fell silent, even Diana watching Charles' lips, hoping he wouldn't say anything terrible.

"Are you at the age to start school yet?"

When he finished, both Diana and Benjamin visibly relaxed.

Benjamin shook his head, "No, I'm only four. No rush for school. Besides, when I'm with my mommy, she teaches me."

"Where is your mommy?"

Charles pressed on.

"I don't know. If I knew, I'd be with her." Benjamin lied effortlessly, not even blushing.

Charles' eyes flickered, but he didn't press further. He nodded lightly and sat back on the couch.

Diana and Benjamin exchanged a glance before she spoke, "Mr. Percy, I'm fine. You can go handle your business."

She didn't know what the Percy Group had done to the White family today, but Charles must be busy.

"Alright."

Charles' response was perfunctory. He glanced at his watch, waiting for something.

With him there, Benjamin and Diana's conversation was restrained, filled with meaningless chatter that made Diana drowsy.

Finally, the third visitor of the day arrived, Nolan.

He carried a briefcase and laptop, his expression serious.

Nolan nodded at Diana before heading straight to Charles on the couch.

"Mr. Percy, here's what you asked for."

He handed over the items respectfully, adding, "The sudden termination of the partnership has raised concerns among the shareholders. I told them to wait for your return to discuss anything further."
