Chapter 194 Going Out
Charles raised an eyebrow, feeling like he finally asked the right person. "So, what's it like to like someone?"
Claire's cheeks turned pink, and she shyly tucked her hair behind her ear, her voice trembling a bit. "Liking someone means thinking about them all the time, wanting to see them, kiss them, hug them, and share special moments. Seeing them with someone else makes you mad and upset."
Her voice got softer, and she couldn't help but glance at Charles.
But Charles, lost in her words, started thinking deeply, remembering those kisses, hugs, and more intimate moments.
Without realizing it, that night with Diana popped into his mind. Her skin was so soft, and her lips were even softer.
Snapping out of his thoughts, Charles's face darkened, and he coldly told the hesitant Claire, "Alright, you can leave now."
Claire was about to keep expressing her feelings, but his words hit her like a bucket of cold water.
She looked confused, and the moment they had was gone with Charles's words.
"Charles, what's wrong? Why did you ask me that?"
"During work hours, address me formally," Charles repeated coldly, signaling with his eyes for Claire to leave.
Claire didn't get what she did to make him mad. Was her way of showing love too much for him?
"Sorry, Mr. Percy, I'll leave now," she said.
As the door closed, the room was dimly lit, and Charles's figure was half-hidden in the shadows.
His face grew gloomy as he touched his lips, lost in thought. 'Do I like Diana, the one who, after getting married, only causes trouble, humiliates me in every possible way, and even makes love to me?'
Charles frowned deeply, lowering his hand. He hated feeling like his emotions were controlled by a woman.
On the other side, ever since the phone call ended, Diana had been waiting with a stern face for Charles to call back.
But even by lunchtime, there was no call.
Maybe he was in the arms of another woman, not wanting to deal with her at all.
Thinking of this, Diana quickly finished her lunch and dragged Evelyn to find Jacob.
"Jacob, Charles hasn't called back, which means he agrees. You can't stop me from going out this time, right?"
Jacob's eyes flickered. For Diana's safety, he still tried to persuade her, "Ms. Spencer, if you really want to relax, the Percy family has a resort in the suburbs. It's beautiful there, surrounded by mountains and water. How about we stay there for a while?"
Diana frowned, clearly unhappy. "Jacob, you're going back on your word. He agreed, so why won't you let me go out? Either call him again and let him say no himself, or agree to let me go out with bodyguards."
Jacob felt a headache coming on. He usually wouldn't call Charles unless it was something important.
Charles was busy with work and on a business trip, so he definitely wouldn't have time to deal with these matters.
Jacob had already called once today. If he called again, Charles would really get mad.
Since it was already agreed, Jacob sighed and gave in. "Alright, Evelyn, go pack Ms. Spencer's luggage. I'll arrange for the bodyguards. Ms. Spencer, you can go out and have fun, but don't stay out too long. Mr. Percy will be angry if he comes home and doesn't see you."
Seeing him agree, Diana's expression finally softened, and she nodded obediently. "Okay, I'll come back early."
But that was impossible! She wouldn't come back until she caught Grant and Hestia, or the entire Rainbow Federation would be in trouble.
If it weren't for the fact that she couldn't talk about these things, Diana would have mobilized everyone to bring those two spies to justice.
Seeing her genuinely happy, Jacob felt relieved. He thought, 'A happy pregnant woman is good for the baby. It's just a couple of days out with bodyguards. What could go wrong?'
An hour later, Evelyn dragged a big suitcase and left with Diana. Of course, the driver's seat and the passenger seat were occupied by the same two bodyguards from before.
As the car drove away, the Percy Mansion slowly disappeared in the rearview mirror.
Evelyn couldn't hide her excitement. The Percy Mansion was grand and all, but it wasn't Diana's home. Getting out for a few days was a nice change.
She turned to Diana, "Ms. Spencer, where are we headed for fun?"
"Sunset Hamlet," Diana replied, her voice clear and steady.
The bodyguard driving hesitated. "Sunset Hamlet? Ms. Spencer, there are lots of fun places in Evergreen City. Sunset Hamlet isn't that great. How about somewhere else? There's a new spot in the south of the city..."
But Diana cut him off, "Am I the one having fun or are you? Why do you care where I go?"
Sensing her irritation, Jett, in the passenger seat, tried to smooth things over. "Ms. Spencer, he didn't mean it that way. Since you want to go, we'll take you. It's just that Sunset Hamlet has all kinds of people, and we're concerned about your safety."
His words were tactful but true. Evergreen City was bustling, but Sunset Hamlet was far from the city center and mostly home to migrant workers. These workers did manual labor, had limited education, and lived there to save money.
After long hours of tough work, men often sought ways to blow off steam, leading to a thriving sex industry with several streets dedicated to prostitution.
The bodyguards couldn't understand why Diana, a high-status pregnant woman, wanted to go to Sunset Hamlet.
"I know," Diana said, understanding his concern. But the situation was special, and she had to go, even if it was risky.
It was just unfortunate for Evelyn, having to go to such a place with her.
But Evelyn showed no sign of rejection; in fact, she looked excited.
"Ms. Spencer! Do you know?" Evelyn's tone was excited.
Diana raised an eyebrow, puzzled. "Know what?"
"Sunset Hamlet has an orphanage. That was my home before," Evelyn said gently. She was an orphan who grew up there.
Sunset Hamlet was familiar to her. Despite the bad elements, most people were just trying to make a living. They were straightforward and genuinely cared for the orphanage kids.
When Diana mentioned Sunset Hamlet, Evelyn thought she wanted to take her back to see her home.
"Yes, I wanted to see where you grew up and bring some things for the children," Diana said, quickly affirming Evelyn's words. She couldn't bear to see the light in Evelyn's eyes fade.
Evelyn hugged her gently, careful not to press on the baby, like a small animal nuzzling against her shoulder.
"Thank you, Ms. Spencer. You're so kind; you're the best person in the world."
Diana laughed and patted her arm. "Are there still people you know at the orphanage?"
Evelyn nodded. "Yes! The head of the orphanage, Ms. Hope! She's in her fifties now, a very gentle and kind person. I used to..."
