Chapter 405 Hospital

Diana looked up, following the sound of his voice, and saw her phone.

She had been wearing a gown at the time, with no place to put her phone, so she must have left it in the car before heading to the White Mansion.

Diana had completely forgotten about her phone and was surprised by Charles' attentiveness. She gave him a polite smile.

"Thanks."

"No problem."

Charles responded nonchalantly, then casually picked up a magazine from the shelf and turned to the sofa.

Diana slowed her eating, and for a moment, the only sounds in the room were the clinking of utensils and plates.

Charles held the book in his hands, but he hadn't turned the page. His eyes lifted slightly, watching Diana eat, and the stillness in his gaze began to ripple.

Diana ate gracefully, her cheeks puffing out like a hamster's after a few bites, chewing for a long time before swallowing.

His eyes lingered on her puffed cheek, feeling an itch to pinch it.

Just then, Diana turned her head. Charles, backlit by the sunset, had his face obscured, but she could feel his gaze on her.

She closed her lunchbox, pulled out a napkin to wipe her mouth, and spoke, "Mr. Percy, the doctor said I need to stay in the hospital for observation for two more days. I won't be able to take care of you during this time."

"Just take care of yourself. I don't want a patient around me."

Charles' lips curled, and his bony fingers finally moved, turning the magazine to the next page.

Diana, unusually, didn't retort. After all, Charles had saved her today.

"Thanks, Mr. Percy."

With that, silence fell between them again.

Diana didn't want to continue chatting with Charles, so she took out her phone to check her messages.

Benjamin had sent many, mostly asking when she would be back.

She replied to a couple of them, and just then, there was a knock on the door.

"Come in."

Charles responded to the knock.

The next second, the door opened, and a small figure rushed in, darting to the bedside.

"Ms. Wipere, are you okay?"

Diana paused, realizing it was Benjamin.

Following him in was Eugene, carrying a fruit basket in one hand and flowers in the other, with a smile that, upon closer inspection, had a hint of flattery.

"Ms. Wipere, I wish you a speedy recovery."

He placed the flowers and fruit basket on the table.

Diana glanced at him, unable to suppress a cold laugh.

Hadn't he been enjoying the spectacle earlier? Now he was acting all sincere.

"Thanks, Mr. Bailey. But today at the White Mansion..."

Before she could finish, Eugene, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, started coughing furiously, interrupting her.

"Charles, I was passing by your place today, and Benjamin insisted on coming to see you, so I brought him along."

Eugene finished, giving Diana a desperate look, begging her not to mention the events of the party.

If he had known about the incident in advance, he would have kept a close eye on Diana.

Currently, Evergreen City's high society was abuzz with rumors.

The news of the White family and the Percy family calling off their engagement had spread, and even the collaboration between the two groups had ended.

The White family had really turned a good situation into chaos.

Moreover, Charles had gained another scandal.

Although it was just a rumor, everyone at the party knew that Charles had called off the engagement because of a "mysterious woman."

This woman, whose background was unknown, had just shown her face in public and had already ruined the engagement between the White family and the Percy family. She was not to be underestimated.

At this moment, the woman with such impressive means was holding Benjamin, comforting him until he calmed down.

"I'm fine, thank you for your concern."

Diana spoke politely, especially with Charles present, not wanting to arouse his suspicion.

Eugene chuckled, sitting next to Charles and nudging him with his elbow.

"Congrats on being single again. How about we hit up Mirage Nights Club tonight?"

Charles shot him a sideways glance, setting the magazine aside.

"Let's talk outside."

He stood up, frowning at Benjamin, who was hugging Diana.

"Benjamin, get down. Let her rest."

Benjamin's eyes were red, and he sniffled, getting off her and replying, "Got it."

As soon as they stepped out of the room, before the door even closed properly, Eugene received a solid kick to his backside.

He clutched his rear, yelping loudly, drawing a stern look from a passing nurse.

"No loud noises outside the patient rooms."

Eugene stifled his cry, his face contorting.

They walked to the stairwell, where Charles finally spoke, "Don't think I don't know what you did today."

Eugene grimaced, retorting, "But you showed up, didn't you? Hero saving the damsel, how touching."

Before he could finish, Charles' face darkened, and he aimed another kick, but Eugene dodged it this time.

"Cut the crap!"

Charles' tone was harsh. If looks could kill, Eugene would be in pieces.

"Charles, we're close. You can be honest with me."

Eugene started with a grin but grew serious.

"She's Diana Spencer, isn't she?"

The stairwell fell silent.

Eugene noticed the change in Charles' demeanor, pulling out a pack of cigarettes and offering one to him, taking one for himself.

After the sound of two lighters, Eugene took a drag, flicking the ash.

"Can you talk now? I saw it. I don't believe you didn't."

Charles didn't smoke, just held it between his fingers, watching the ember climb, and spoke.

"It's her."

Guessing was one thing, but Charles admitting it was another. Eugene got excited.

"No way! Really? Did you check? How did she do it? I saw her body buried."

Before he could finish, Charles cut him off coldly.

"I don't know. I haven't checked."

He didn't want to. As long as Diana was with him now, the past didn't matter.

"Does she know you know her?"

Eugene's question hung in the smoky air.

Charles' tone was calm.

"No."

"Charles, she's been alive all these years and didn't come back. Haven't you wondered why?"

Eugene couldn't help but ask.

A woman like Diana, who couldn't be held by money or power, suddenly returning at this critical moment.

Either someone sent her to harm Charles, or she had another agenda.

But for Charles' sake, Eugene was tactful.
