Chapter 47 Looking for Former Employees

When Diana got those employee records before, they didn't have any contact info. Instead of wasting time looking them up one by one, she figured it'd be smarter to have Coralie gather all the info and hand it over.

When Diana left Coralie's office, only the five team members were still around. She found out Clara had dragged everyone else into another meeting.

Calliope, from the same team, couldn't help but ask, "Diana, doesn't Ms. Wipere need to have a meeting?"

Diana shook her head. "Just stick to your tasks for now. We'll have a meeting in three days. If you run into any issues, just come to me."

After she said that, the five of them exchanged looks and then got back to work. This open work style gave them more freedom. Diana didn't plan on having constant meetings and disrupting their flow. Even if they were a bit unreliable, she had a plan and was sticking to it.

By the end of the workday, Coralie had put together the contact info for the old employees in a spreadsheet and sent it to Diana. Seeing it was almost time to leave, Diana stood up to head home and told the team to wrap up and go too.

Clara's team had been stuck in meetings all day, even eating in the conference room. At first, everyone had a lot to say, but as time dragged on, no one wanted to talk anymore, and Clara had to push them.

By the end of the day, they were all exhausted, and the meeting had gone nowhere. When they came out, they saw Diana's team had already left, which made them feel even worse.

Axel was the most frustrated since he still had to organize the materials Clara wanted after work. But thinking Clara would eventually come out on top, Axel felt a bit more motivated. A little hard work now could mean better prospects later.

When Diana got home, Evelyn was playing with Cecil. Seeing Diana, Evelyn poured her a glass of orange juice. "Ms. Spencer, freshly squeezed."

Diana sat on the sofa, and Evelyn started giving her a shoulder massage. Diana was amused. "What's this about? Did your service upgrade after getting paid?"

Evelyn blushed, clearly in a good mood. "Do you like it, Ms. Spencer? I can give you a massage every day if you want."

Diana moved aside to avoid her touch. "Just be yourself. That money is nothing; it's a reward for sticking with me when I was down and out."

Evelyn was touched and gave Diana a big hug. Diana patted her back and told her to keep taking care of Cecil. Then, Diana took out the spreadsheet Coralie had given her and started calling the employees one by one.

First on the list was Saskia, who Diana knew because she had left the company just last year and had a good relationship with Coralie.

The phone rang for about thirty seconds before a weak female voice answered, "Hello, who is this?"

"Hello, is this Ms. Fuller? I'm from the Spencer Group..." Before Diana could finish, the other end erupted in an angry scream.

Saskia shouted, "I told you I don't know! How long are you going to keep harassing me?"

With that, the call abruptly ended, leaving Diana bewildered. When she tried calling again, she found she had been blocked.

Diana sat on the sofa for a bit, then dialed the next number. "Hello, I'm from the Spencer Group..."

This time, a guy answered and yelled, "Get lost!" and hung up right away.

Once could be a fluke, but twice? Diana thought for a moment and then dialed the third number. This time, she played it smart and didn't reveal her identity right away. "Hello, is this Faye Fuller?"

Faye's voice was gentle. "Yes, who is this?"

Diana didn't dare mention the Spencer Group and instead asked, "Do you know Bianca?"

Faye was silent for a moment, just as Diana thought this call would also be a bust.

Faye suddenly spoke, "Did something happen? She was a friend of mine who has passed away."

Hearing the word "friend," Diana jumped in, "I'm her daughter, Diana."

"Diana?" Faye sounded confused. She did remember Bianca's daughter named Diana. But that Diana was a mess, deceived by her stepmother, lost the company, and spent her days chasing after men. Faye found it hard to connect the girl on the phone with that Diana.

But recalling Bianca's demeanor, Faye felt a pang of sympathy and asked, "Hello, why did you call me?"

Hearing Faye's normal tone, Diana finally relaxed. She sat up straight, her tone becoming more friendly. "Here's the thing, Faye. I've taken over the company and wanted to know if you're currently working. If not, would you be interested in coming back?"

Faye was stunned by Diana's words. She didn't expect Diana to want to rehire her after all these years. But Faye already had a new job and was quite settled. So Faye shook her head gently. "No, I've been away for a long time and have a new life now. I won't come back."

Having finally found someone she could talk to, Diana wasn't about to give up. She spoke with a hint of regret but subtly shifted the conversation. "Faye, to be honest, I'm competing with Clara to take over the company. This company was my mother's hard work, and I can't let it go to someone else. But I'm isolated in the company, so I wanted to find you old employees."

As she spoke, Diana's voice trembled with genuine emotion. "But I didn't expect that none of the old employees were left. I've made several calls, and as soon as they heard I was from the Spencer Group, they started cursing."

Faye was silent for a moment after hearing Diana's words. She knew about these issues. When they left, they had a falling out with the company. After Nathan took over, the company started forming cliques.

Old employees were targeted and had their salaries maliciously reduced. They tried to fight back but ultimately couldn't win. Faye couldn't handle the mental and physical stress, so she submitted her resignation. For a long time, Faye harbored a deep resentment towards the company, or more accurately, towards Nathan. Besides Faye, the more capable old employees were also targeted.

Even after they left, Nathan didn't stop harassing them. He often called them to warn them not to disclose company secrets. As a result, they developed a psychological aversion to calls from the Spencer Group, which explained why the first two people hung up.

Faye thought for a moment. Although she didn't want to go back, others might feel differently, so she offered, "The previous employees had some unpleasant experiences with Mr. Williams, which is why they don't answer calls from the company. How about this? I'll gather whoever I can, and you can talk to them in person."
