Chapter 371 Testing

Diana froze, taken aback by Charles' sharp intuition.

She had originally left the conference hall and rushed to the accident scene, but halfway there, she got a message from Benjamin saying they were already at the venue.

When she found out Charles had been shot while protecting Benjamin, her heart sank, and a wave of fear washed over her.

She couldn't tell if she was more afraid for Benjamin's safety or worried about Charles' injury.

When Diana arrived, she was eager to see Benjamin, but according to Dean's intel, Benjamin was with Charles.

This meant she had to enter the lounge.

For her, this was nearly impossible.

Diana wasn't a ninja, nor could she turn invisible.

Showing up in front of Charles unannounced was practically a death wish.

Fortunately, Milan and Dean knew each other.

Milan was very accommodating; after receiving a message from Dean, he agreed to let her come along under the guise of an assistant.

But now, she was about to be exposed.

Her hand clenched slightly at her side, but Diana maintained a calm expression and looked up, saying, "Is there something wrong, Mr. Percy?"

Her voice was sweet, carrying the same accent as Milan.

Charles frowned, "You're not from the Rainbow Federation?"

Before Diana could respond, Milan interjected, "She's from Celestria, just like me."

Charles' probing gaze didn't leave her, and Diana couldn't avoid it. Any slight misstep would expose her.

She swallowed hard and kept her voice sweet, "I'm sorry, Mr. Percy. Am I disturbing you? If so, I'll leave right away."

When Diana entered, she had discreetly glanced around the room. Benjamin wasn't there.

With Milan present, Charles wouldn't be in danger.

She should leave.

Before Charles could speak, Diana turned and headed for the door.

But after taking just two steps, Charles spoke again, "Wait, I didn't say you could leave. What's the rush?"

Diana closed her eyes briefly, suppressing her fear.

'It's okay, he's Charles, not a monster. It's been five years; he can't possibly recognize me at a glance. He's probably just suspicious out of habit.'

She comforted herself inwardly and turned back, "Do you need something?"

What was meant to be a polite question, Charles took seriously, "I need you to help me with the bandage."

"Mr. Percy, Milan is more skilled than I am. I'm just a novice."

Diana tried to find an excuse.

"Really? But my wound is still bleeding. As an assistant, you should know basic bandaging, right?"

Charles ignored Milan and stared at Diana, his voice low.

He was testing her.

Milan paused, feeling a sudden urge to strangle Charles with a bandage.

It was his reckless movement that caused the wound to reopen, yet he questioned Milan's expertise!

But given Charles' status, Milan stepped back and said, "Then you do it."

Diana was speechless. She didn't know how to bandage a wound.

Clearly, Charles still had strength and was making things difficult for her, an assistant.

But refusing now would reveal more flaws.

She frowned slightly and stepped forward, touching the blood-stained bandage.

"Undo it gently, the hemostatic powder is here."

Milan hadn't completely given up. He knew Diana couldn't bandage, so he reminded her from the side.

They were now very close, and the familiar scent made Diana's scalp tingle, her body tense.

Charles stared into her eyes, then looked at her ears, and softly asked, "What are you afraid of?"

Diana steadied herself and slowly unwrapped the bandage.

"Mr. Percy, I'm a novice, so I'm a bit nervous."

As the bandage was fully removed, the bullet wound was exposed. Blood was still seeping out, and his earlier movement had worsened the tear.

The sight of the bright red blood and the gaping wound was shocking; just looking at it was painful. Diana's face darkened, her fingers trembling as she touched his arm.

"You remind me of someone," Charles suddenly spoke, interrupting her thoughts.

Diana quickly turned her head, meeting his deep eyes. His clear pupils reflected her small figure, reminding her of many moments they had shared.

Diana lowered her gaze, picked up the hemostatic powder, her voice still sweet but trembling.

"Mr. Percy, I have a very common appearance. Many people say I look like their friends."

"Not a friend, but my..." he paused, his breath lingering near Diana's ear, "wife."

Her hand paused, spilling a large amount of hemostatic powder, even covering the uninjured areas.

Diana's breath hitched, she picked up a towel to wipe it off.

"Sorry, Mr. Percy, I didn't mean to."

She didn't respond to Charles' words, just apologized.

A strong sense of unease surged in her heart. She felt he might have discovered her.

But why hadn't he exposed her? They were so close, he could easily lift his uninjured hand and remove her mask to confirm her identity.

Yet he didn't, just chatted with her?

Diana's heart pounded, she tried to convince herself.

As long as she wasn't fully exposed, it meant she was safe.

But her nervousness affected her, she didn't know how to bandage, and despite Milan's guidance, her hands seemed to have a mind of their own.

Seeing the wound about to tear again, she put down the gauze and spoke in Celestria to Milan.

"Milan, please help me."

After speaking, she stepped aside.

"Alright," Milan responded in kind, making it seem like they were truly from the same country.

Then he explained, "Sorry, Mr. Percy, she's indeed a novice. It's her first time seeing a gunshot wound, she's too nervous."

Charles nodded indifferently, suddenly no longer looking at Diana, but cooperating with Milan.

With a professional handling the situation, the speed increased significantly.

Diana stood aside, seeing Charles close his eyes and endure, she felt relieved.

There was a knock at the door, Nolan brought Benjamin back.

"Mr. Percy, about the press conference..."

Before he could finish, Charles opened his eyes. "I'll be there shortly."

Benjamin had looked around outside but hadn't seen Diana, feeling frustrated.

But upon returning, he saw Diana standing opposite Charles.

He felt both surprised and delighted.

He missed her, but feared Charles would discover her, so he suppressed his expression and sat beside Charles.

This way, Diana could see him too.

Feeling the slight dip beside him, Charles turned his head.

"What's wrong?"

"Mr. Percy, does it feel better after the bandaging? Does it still hurt?"

Benjamin's brows furrowed, looking worried.

Charles smiled slightly. "It doesn't hurt anymore."

"Oh my, it doesn't hurt anymore? Doctor, your skills are amazing!"

Benjamin stood up, exaggeratedly running to Milan's side, and as he passed Diana, he carefully brushed against her clothes.

It was quick, unnoticed by anyone, but Diana felt it.
