Chapter 14 Seeking Forgiveness

Matthew never thought Diana could take down that hulking bodyguard without even breaking a sweat, all while remaining seated.

Diana casually slid over to the hospital bed. Matthew, scared out of his wits, backed up and stuttered, "W-what are you doing here?"

He remembered all the nasty stuff he had planned for Diana and instantly regretted it. Out of all the women, he had to mess with the one who could kick his ass.

So, he started begging, "I'm sorry, I was wrong! I shouldn't have touched you. It was Mr. Percy who told me to, and I... I'm really sorry!"

The real jerk behind all this was Charles.

Diana, rubbing her sore knee and sweating bullets, said calmly, "Mr. Moore, I'm here to apologize."

But Matthew didn't dare to accept her apology. He wasn't as tough as the bodyguard on the floor and didn't want to end up like him.

He had no clue how Diana had taken the guy down.

So, he gulped and said, "You don't need to apologize; it's all my fault. I was wrong. Please, just leave. Or do you want money? I can give you money."

Diana felt her knee getting better and moved her foot a bit. She said, "Mr. Moore, we both know what's up. You touched me, I fought back, and you ended up in bed for three days. We're even. I don't want anything, just let me leave the hospital."

Then she pulled out a thin needle from her dress.

Before Matthew could say anything, Diana continued, "Mr. Moore, you must be wondering how I took down that guy, right? The human body is pretty amazing. If you poke the right spots, people pass out fast. And some spots..."

She paused, seeing the curiosity in Matthew's eyes, and went on, "If you poke some spots, a person can be paralyzed for life, stuck in bed."

Matthew's face turned white with fear. At 50, he was almost in tears.

Diana pressed on, her voice clear but scary, "Mr. Moore, do you get what I'm saying? Or should I keep kneeling to apologize?"

Matthew bit his lip, nodded shakily, and then shook his head. He struggled to say, "I get it, no need."

Only then did Diana put away her needle. Her earlier statement was half-true. She did knock out the bodyguard with a poke, but she didn't know much more than that.

Seeing Matthew cooperate, Diana said no more.

Just then, the doctor and another bodyguard walked in after finishing a call.

They saw the guy on the ground and the terrified Matthew.

The bodyguard's face was serious as he asked, "What's going on?"

Matthew, seeing them, felt like he'd been saved.

But he remembered Diana's words. He hesitated, opening his mouth only to close it again. Finally, he managed to stammer, "N-nothing."

But with a bodyguard on the floor, they weren't buying it. "What about him?"

Diana scratched her head nonchalantly and said, "Maybe he was too tired and fell asleep. Young folks are always craving sleep."

The bodyguard, seeing Diana on the hospital bed, remembered Charles's order and moved to press her down again.

"Who told you to stand up? Mr. Percy said you should kneel and apologize to Mr. Moore," the bodyguard said.

But as soon as he took a step, Matthew on the bed spoke up, "I told her to get up. I'm fine now. Let her go; I forgive her."

The bodyguard was momentarily speechless. "But she hasn't apologized yet."

Diana, quick on the uptake, immediately said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Moore. Please forgive me."

Matthew, hearing her apology, responded, "N-no problem, I forgive you."

Their conversation was so stiff it was like watching two robots trying to have a chat.

Matthew didn't want to dig into it; he just wanted to stay far away from Diana.

Diana raised her chin at the bodyguard. "Mr. Percy said that as long as Mr. Moore forgives me, I can go home, right?"

Before the bodyguard could speak, Matthew nodded like a bobblehead. "Yes, yes, go quickly. I forgive you."

If Matthew weren't still a bit dizzy, he would've personally opened the door for Diana and shown her out.

He'd never dare mess with such a beautiful yet deadly woman again.

The bodyguard had no choice but to let her go.

Diana bypassed him and left the ward.

Once she got downstairs, Diana plopped down on a bench.

She hadn't eaten for three days, and her leg hurt so much she could barely walk. Leaving the ward and getting here was her limit.

A passing nurse saw Diana frowning and looking pale. She asked with concern, "Ma'am, are you okay?"

Diana looked up and said, "I'm fine, but I lost my phone. Can you help me make a call?"

The nurse nodded and took her to the front desk.

Diana dialed Robert's number.

When the call connected, Robert was super surprised.

That day, when Diana was taken away by men in black, he wanted to call the cops when he woke up. But then he was told by the Percy Group that Diana had gone to Charles.

Robert felt somewhat reassured, but he couldn't get through to her phone. Until today, when he heard Diana's voice, he rushed to the hospital to pick her up.

At the Spencer Villa, Diana lay on the sofa, her knee swollen and red.

When Robert saw her, she couldn't walk anymore. Luckily, Diana was still in the hospital, so Robert carried her to see a doctor.

The doctor didn't ask how her leg got injured; he just silently prescribed a bunch of meds and told her to rest well.

On the way back, Diana closed her eyes to rest.

Robert, filled with questions, asked, "Ms. Spencer, why did the Percy Group take you away? Didn't you already divorce Charles? I couldn't reach you for the past two days. Their people even threatened me not to call the cops."

Diana was exhausted, and a wave of weariness washed over her.

She weakly said, "Robert, the Percy Group can crush us like ants. Don't provoke them..."

By the end, Diana's voice grew fainter, and when Robert looked back, he found she had fallen asleep.

Seeing Diana's worn-out face and dirty clothes, Robert guessed she hadn't had a good time these past few days. He suppressed his questions and decided to ask her when she woke up.

When Diana woke up, it was already the next morning.

She went downstairs and saw only a maid, Evelyn Thomas, busy in the living room.

So Diana asked, "Why are you the only one here? Where are the others?"

Evelyn was happy to see Diana awake but then felt a bit down upon hearing her question. "They all left. They said they were used to serving Mr. Williams and Mrs. Williams, so they went to find them."

Diana walked to the dining table and found hot soup and some food that was easy on the stomach.

Since she wasn't familiar with those servants anyway, their departure actually saved her time in finding replacements. But Evelyn, who stayed, was relatively unfamiliar, so Diana asked, "They all left. Why didn't you go with them?"
