Chapter 443 Candlelight Dinner

Diana had been fumbling around the room for quite some time, but she couldn't find any way out.

And Charles still hadn't returned.

Just as she was staring at the door, waiting for dinner to be brought in, the previously locked door opened from the outside.

A maid entered first, followed by a line of other maids, all dressed in identical uniforms, their eyes downcast, holding something in their hands.

Diana sat up straight, her brow furrowed slightly. "Who are you?"

The leading maid bowed slightly, giving her a respectful and polite smile. "Mrs. Percy, Mr. Percy has asked us to prepare dinner and wait for you to join him."

"Mrs. Percy?"

The title sent a shiver down Diana's spine. She quickly waved her hand in protest. "I'm not Mrs. Percy. What is Charles up to? Tell him to come see me."

The maid seemed not to hear her and continued, "Mrs. Percy, Mr. Percy said you need to follow his instructions to see him."

"Follow his instructions for what? Enough with the games. Give me my phone back, and I'll call him."

Diana couldn't stand the maid's smile any longer. It looked respectful, but it was clear she wasn't taking her seriously.

The maid clapped her hands, and the other maids immediately understood and left the room.

"If Mrs. Percy isn't willing now, we'll wait."

Before Diana could react, the maid quickly closed the door, locking her in the room again.

"Hey! Wait! Come back here!"

Diana's eyes widened as she rushed to the door, but unsurprisingly, it was locked.

"What is Charles playing at?"

After all the commotion, Diana was exhausted. She plopped down on the carpet, glaring at the door.

It seemed the maid's words were true. No one brought her any food, and she didn't see any sign of Charles.

So, did he bring her here just to lock her up?

Just as Diana was about to battle the door again, the maid entered once more.

This time, they were much closer. The maid opened the door and almost bumped into Diana. She quickly recovered. "Mrs. Percy, have you made up your mind?"

"Is Charles downstairs?"

Diana didn't answer her question but asked one of her own.

The maid nodded and added, "Mr. Percy is ready and has invited you to join him for dinner. So, Mrs. Percy, are you willing to go down?"

Her expression was solemn, as if she were discussing something very serious.

'It's just dinner, why so formal?'

Diana was puzzled, but she knew staying here would be too passive. So, she didn't refuse this time and nodded slightly. "Okay."

"Wonderful."

The maid's smile brightened with joy. She waved to the others, and a group of maids filed in, surrounding the still-confused Diana.

As Diana wondered why so many people were needed for something as simple as going downstairs, two maids brought in a large gift box.

They opened it in front of Diana, revealing a stunning silver-white mermaid gown adorned with pearls and diamonds, shimmering softly under the light.

Diana frowned and instinctively took a step back. "What's this for?"

The young maid holding the dress, her thoughts clearly visible on her face, looked at the dress with envy. "It's for you to change into, Mrs. Percy. Tonight is a candlelight dinner."

As soon as she finished speaking, the leading maid shot her a sharp look, signaling her to stop talking.

The young maid shrank back, not daring to say more, but Diana had heard everything.

A candlelight dinner? What is Charles up to? Given his demeanor yesterday, he didn't seem like someone who would suddenly become so considerate.

"Mrs. Percy, please change. Mr. Percy has been waiting for a long time."

The leading maid urged again. Diana stood still for a moment before finally agreeing.

The dress looked complicated, but it was quick to put on. The skirt flowed around her feet, and the waistline accentuated her curves, making her look like a mermaid who had just come ashore.

The maids quickly styled her hair and applied light makeup.

Compared to the dazzling dress, the accessories were simple.

In less than an hour, the maids were done and led her out of the room.

Diana looked around. The decor outside the room matched the interior, resembling a European castle, but the dim lighting gave it a somewhat eerie atmosphere.

Finally, they reached their destination.

The leading maid called out, "Mr. Percy, Mrs. Percy is here."

With that, Diana felt a push at her waist, causing her to stumble into the room.

She heard the heavy door close behind her.

Steadying herself, she lifted her head, clutching her skirt.

There, by the floor-to-ceiling window, stood Charles in a white suit, hands in his pockets, silently watching her.

The room was dimly lit, with only the flickering candlelight on the dining table casting a soft glow, creating an intimate atmosphere.

The lower half of his face was illuminated by the candlelight, while his eyes remained in the shadows.

Diana tilted her head slightly and called out tentatively, "Charles?"

He finally moved, stepping forward with an unreadable expression.

He extended a hand to her, his lips curling slightly. "Good evening, beautiful lady."

Moonlight, a candlelight dinner, a handsome man and a beautiful woman—everything seemed perfect, and Charles was especially gentlemanly tonight.

But Diana ignored his hand, walking past him to sit at the table. "What are you up to? Why make dinner so complicated?"

Charles chuckled, rubbing his empty hand, and turned to see Diana already eating.

She didn't care about etiquette; she was starving.

Charles didn't mind. He even thoughtfully poured her a glass of water and pushed it toward her. "Drink some water, take your time."

Diana took a cautious sip, relieved to find it was just water.

But she didn't forget the main issue. "You can explain now."

Charles cleared his throat, tugging at his collar before speaking. "Today is our wedding day, so this dinner is special."

Diana hadn't swallowed her water yet and sprayed it out in shock. Fortunately, Charles quickly grabbed a plate to shield himself.

"What nonsense are you talking about? When did we get married?"

No wonder he arranged a candlelight dinner and had her wear this dress, which could easily pass for a wedding gown.

"Don't say that, darling. Our marriage is legally binding."

Charles smiled, clearly in a good mood. He pulled out a document and placed it on the table.
