Chapter 501 Birthday Preparations

Charles followed Diana, watching as she dove under the covers, creating a small lump on the bed.

He reached out to pull the blanket, but it was quickly yanked away from him.

Diana's muffled voice came from beneath, "Get out."

Charles almost laughed in frustration. He had brought her home to meet Benjamin, and now he was being ignored all night. He couldn't even have the blanket.

Seeing this, he reached out and scooped up the blanket-covered Diana, flipping her over in one swift motion.

Diana's eyes widened, still caught up in her earlier emotions. Suddenly face-to-face with him, she looked a bit dazed.

The next second, Charles lowered his head and gently bit her collarbone.

Even though it wasn't hard, Diana winced and glared at him, "What the hell are you doing?"

"I'm upset," Charles said, propping himself up over her, his tone serious, like a plaintiff presenting a case to a judge.

Unfortunately, this judge was far from professional. She didn't grasp the plaintiff's grievances at all.

Instead, she pushed him away with her knee, frowning, "Why should I care if you're upset? I didn't do anything to you."

She had been exhausted all day, then had to take care of the kid in the evening. Now, even Charles was acting up.

She closed her eyes, looking indifferent, "I'm tired. I'm going to sleep."

Charles, feeling both frustrated and amused, saw her indifference as a sign of being spoiled. He had been so proactive, yet Diana was treating him like a disposable fling.

But soon, Diana had to open her eyes because she couldn't breathe. Charles was kissing her, his eyes full of grievance when she looked at him.

Diana pushed him away, sitting up and wiping her lips, "Are you done?"

"You ignore me, don't pay attention to me, and even scold me," Charles accused, moving closer again.

Diana became alert, lifting her leg to keep him at bay. She sighed, "What do you want?"

"Comfort me," Charles demanded, his face stern.

If Diana hadn't heard it herself, she wouldn't have believed he would say such a thing.

But here they were...

Diana sighed deeply, finally giving in. She lowered her leg and opened her arms, "Come here."

Charles quickly embraced her, holding her tightly.

Diana's chest was pressed against him, making it hard to breathe. She pounded his back, "Loosen up!"

Finally, the hug was just right. Despite everything, the feeling of being held was comforting.

This non-sexual embrace felt warm and cozy.

Diana, feeling sleepy, rested her chin on Charles's shoulder and yawned.

Seeing her yawn and drift off, Charles urged, "Talk to me."

Diana was taken aback. She wasn't good at comforting people. With Benjamin, it was all about hugs and kisses.

But now, she had to say something.

Sighing, she reached up and patted Charles's head, her tone casual and tired, "I'm sorry. I was wrong. I'll pay more attention to you."

Too perfunctory. Charles tightened his hold, "Who's more important, me or the kid?"

Diana was speechless. This question was as pointless as asking, "If your mom and I fell into the water, who would you save first?"

But it was best to go along with him for now. Diana, like a man making empty promises, cleared her throat, "Of course, you're more important."

She couldn't help but scratch Charles's back, feeling a bit awkward.

Surprisingly, those simple words seemed to appease Charles.

Though he still wore a stern expression, his eyes couldn't hide his joy as he pulled Diana down onto the bed with him.

He ran his fingers through her hair, tucking it behind her ear, and whispered, "I have to be the most important person in your heart."

Diana responded with a noncommittal hum, closing her eyes to avoid further conversation.

In her heart, she believed that people were inherently selfish. She was the most important person to herself, followed by others.

She didn't want to end up like the original Diana, who put Charles first and ended up divorced and in debt.

To her, "selfishness" was her life motto.

Charles, unaware of her thoughts, traced her eyebrows and eyes with his finger.

Diana, who had been dozing off, suddenly opened her eyes and grabbed his face, "If you keep touching me, neither of us will sleep tonight."

She didn't mind wrestling with Charles until dawn.

But Charles misunderstood. His eyelashes fluttered, and his gaze fell on her lips, his voice hoarse, "You've recovered so quickly? You were so steady holding Benjamin today..."

Before he could finish, Diana placed a pillow between them, "Go to the bathroom if you need to. Don't bother me."

She had already made a mistake during the day. She wouldn't let it happen again at night.

Whether it was her words or something else, Charles finally quieted down. He tossed the pillow aside but insisted on watching Diana sleep.

Though his gaze was hard to ignore, Diana had grown somewhat accustomed to it after sleeping together so many times. She closed her eyes, pretending to be asleep.

The next morning, Diana woke up at ten. She had slept deeply, not even waking when Charles got up.

Tomorrow was Benjamin's birthday, and today they needed to start preparing.

After washing up, she went downstairs to a lively scene:

Jacob and Benjamin were blowing up balloons, while the other servants helped with the decorations.

The usually cold living room now felt warm and lively.

Snowy was the first to notice Diana. It darted over, circling her and wagging its tail against her legs, making her wince. She quickly pushed it away.

"Ms. Spencer! You're awake! Come over here!"

Benjamin waved enthusiastically, but the balloon in his hand slipped away, flying around before landing at Diana's feet.

She picked it up with a smile, "What are you guys up to?"

"It's Benjamin's first birthday with the Percy family. It should be special, so I took the liberty of buying some decorations to make him happy," Jacob explained while tying a balloon.

In the past, given Benjamin's status, his birthday would have been a big family affair, with all the Percy elders attending to show their importance to the only child.

But now the Percy family was small, and Charles didn't get along with Elise, so a big family dinner was out of the question.

Jacob was happy with this arrangement. At least Benjamin, Charles, and Diana could have a joyful meal together.

"By the way, Mrs. Percy, I heard you and Mr. Percy are going to make the cake yourselves. I brought in a pastry chef to help you."
