Chapter 529 No Way Back
Eugene had his hands in his pockets, looking smug. He scoffed, "Nolan, you've been hanging around Charles too long. You got zero talent for romance."
Nolan didn't get upset at the jab. Instead, he looked genuinely curious, eager to learn.
Eugene kept walking, explaining, "Charles was destined to be unloved with that attitude of his. I just told him to soften up to Diana, keep her around. Reputation can't feed you. But..."
He paused, ruffling his hair, "Luckily, Diana's a kind woman. If it were me, I'd have taken advantage of his weakness, taken him out, and claimed the Percy family fortune. I'd be living the high life as a top-tier rich wife."
Eugene chuckled at the thought, feeling a bit proud of his own kindness.
Otherwise, he might have teamed up with Diana to take over the Percy family assets.
Nolan finally understood, his face showing admiration for Eugene's cunning. He then put on a hopeful expression, "God bless, let's hope Ms. Spencer stays kind-hearted."
That way, not only would the company be saved, but Charles would be too.
At the Percy Manor.
Zachary sat on the couch, drinking with a dark expression. The living room was empty; the servants, sensing his foul mood, stayed out of sight.
Elise had just returned home and frowned upon seeing her son drinking like it was water.
"Zachary, what are you doing? Drinking in the middle of the day? It's bad for you!"
She hurried over, trying to take the bottle from him.
"Leave me alone!" Zachary dodged her hand, taking another swig.
He cursed, "Damn Charles, why is he still alive? That bastard won't die, and he married another one. They keep flaunting themselves in front of me. I wish I could kill them both!"
Elise understood immediately that it was the company's issues bothering him.
She sat across from Zachary, trying to calm him down, "Don't worry. Now that you're back and in the company again, Diana's just a woman. She can't command respect."
Zachary frowned, annoyed. Diana, despite being a woman, managed the company flawlessly, making his role as vice president seem redundant.
"Enough, you don't know anything about the company. Just leave me alone." He waved her off, reaching for the bottle again.
Elise, now angry, smacked his shoulder hard, making him flinch. She snatched the glass from him, poking his forehead with a finger.
"What good is drinking? Is your brain broken? Instead of waiting for her to slip up, why don't you create an opportunity?"
Zachary, feeling embarrassed, retorted, "I tried! I even sent someone to kill him, but he escaped! The hospital is guarded like a prison now. My people can't get in."
Elise closed her eyes, regretting not having more children. She reminded him, "I meant Diana. If she doesn't make mistakes, make her. Do I have to spell it out for you?"
Zachary froze, then his eyes lit up, "Right! Why didn't I think of that? Mom, you're a genius! I'll get on it right away!"
Elise thought to herself, Zachary's so dense, it's a wonder he managed to slip past Charles's watch and return from Horizonia.
She added, "Claire, Charles's secretary, shares our interests. Use her."
Zachary nodded eagerly, abandoning his drink and rushing to his study.
Elise sighed. As long as Charles was down, she'd have to keep cleaning up after Zachary.
If Charles were healthy, these tricks wouldn't even reach him.

Meanwhile, Dean and Benjamin came to see Diana again. They looked pitiful, carrying their bags.
Diana rubbed her temples, "What's going on?"
"Sophia, we can't leave," Dean said first.
"Why? The butler's got my back. I said Benjamin's with me. You just need to take him and go."
Diana couldn't understand what went wrong. If they didn't leave now, there'd be no chance later.
"It's not just the butler. It's Charles's men in black," Dean said, frustrated.
He knew Charles was tough, but even injured and amnesiac, he was still a problem.
"Them?" Diana only knew someone was watching the hospital. What was Dean's issue?
"I got Benjamin to the airport, but a bunch of men in black showed up and brought us back. If Benjamin hadn't recognized them as Charles's men, I'd have thought we were being kidnapped," Dean said, ruffling his messy hair.
"Back? How did you get here then?" Diana asked, stunned.
"They dropped us off at the Percy Mansion and left," Benjamin explained, mimicking the men in black, "They said it was Mr. Percy's order to keep an eye on me."
Charles's order?
But the Charles in the hospital didn't remember anything. They'd even talked about using music to recover his memory.
Was he lying?
Dean guessed, "I think Charles set this up before his accident, to prevent Benjamin from escaping."
"Maybe because last time, Mommy and I ran to the airport, Mr. Percy got paranoid," Benjamin added, scratching his face sheepishly.
Something was off about these men in black. Diana frowned, "Stay here for now. We'll find another chance to leave."
Benjamin cheered up, "Yay! We can stay! Mommy, can I visit him in the hospital?"
His voice trailed off as he noticed Diana's stern look. "No. If you show up, it'll be harder to leave. Stay at the Percy Mansion where it's safe."
Benjamin, clearly not wanting to leave, couldn't hide his feelings. "Okay," he said, sitting down with his bag.
Dean pointed to himself, "What about me?"
"You..." Diana hesitated, then ordered, "First, protect Benjamin. Second, help me with work."
"Work?" Dean regretted asking. He didn't want to manage Charles's company.
"Sophia, if I manage it, the Percy Group will be bankrupt by tomorrow."
"Try it," Diana threatened, making Dean shut up and accept his fate.
"Mommy, what will you do?" Benjamin asked, his little mind working quickly.
"I have more important things to do."
