Chapter 391 Charles and Benjamin Bickering

She pressed her lips together, realizing she really couldn't expect too much from Charles.

Oh well, at least she could take Benjamin out now.

"Alright, I get it."

Seeing her compliance, Charles was quickly pleased.

He stood up and nodded slightly.

"About time. Let's head down for dinner."

In the dining room, Benjamin was already seated.

Normally, if Charles was home, everyone had to wait for him to sit before they could take their seats. But Benjamin was a kid, so an exception was made for him.

Holding a knife and fork in each hand, Benjamin looked up at the second floor, his eyebrows furrowed.

"Mr. Hearst, why aren't they down yet?"

Jacob, who was setting the table, heard him and reassured him, "Don't worry, we can start eating."

Benjamin casually speared a piece of broccoli and stuffed it into his mouth, chewing and mumbling, "But I'm worried Mr. Percy might bully Ms. Wipere."

Jacob's smile froze. How could he think that?

Maybe it was just a child's innocent remark, but it needed to be corrected early.

"Benjamin, Mr. Percy wouldn't bully Ms. Wipere. After all, Mr. Percy is an upright man."

Benjamin stared at him with wide eyes, as if to say, 'Do you think I'm that gullible?'

Jacob felt a pang of guilt under his gaze.

But soon, Benjamin's eyes lit up as he looked behind Jacob.

"They're coming down!"

He said this while observing their expressions.

Diana walked in front, her face calm, as if nothing had happened.

Charles followed behind, his usual indifferent self, but surprisingly, he pulled out a chair for Diana before sitting down.

Jacob whispered to Benjamin, "See, I told you so."

Benjamin nodded dismissively. Pulling out a chair was something any gentleman would do; it was just barely passing in his book.

"Mr. Percy, what were you doing upstairs? Why are you only coming down now?"

Benjamin's blunt question almost made Diana choke on her saliva.

"Changing bandages."

Charles responded nonchalantly, as he really hadn't done anything.

Benjamin nodded and then turned to Diana with a sweet smile.

"Thank you, Ms. Wipere."

Diana smiled, wanting to pat his head, but there were too many people around, so she held back.

Benjamin understood her intention, his eyes filled with dependence.

Remembering Charles pulling out the chair, he quickly tried to please her by pushing his already cut steak towards her.

"Ms. Wipere, you eat this!"

Charles noticed his little gesture and raised an eyebrow, receiving a slightly challenging look from Benjamin.

Gripping his water glass a bit tighter, Charles thought, 'This little rascal, offering something he didn't even cut himself.'

Diana's smile softened as she thanked Benjamin and praised him several times.

If Benjamin had a tail, it would probably be wagging furiously right now.

She picked up her knife and fork, just about to take a bite, when a large hand reached over and took the plate away.

"Perfect timing, my arm can't exert force. Thanks for the steak."

He moved so quickly that by the time Diana and Benjamin reacted, he had already eaten a piece.

Benjamin's eyes widened in disbelief at his shamelessness, and he immediately got upset.

"What are you doing! That was for her!"

Jacob quickly pressed Benjamin back into his seat, soothing him in a low voice, "I'll cut you another piece, don't be mad."

"No! I want that one. It was my gift to her. Why did you take it?"

When Benjamin got angry, he didn't care who the other person was, acting like a little lion with its fur standing on end.

"I'm a patient. You should be considerate of me," Charles said with a smirk, taking another piece of steak.

"You're doing this on purpose!" Benjamin shot back, his voice rising.

Their bickering was driving Diana nuts. She finally understood why Dean sometimes couldn't handle Benjamin. The kid was a mini Charles.

Diana suddenly slammed her hand on the table, the loud noise echoing through the dining room.

For a moment, everything went silent.

Benjamin, who feared no one but Diana, turned into a meek little lamb, lowering his head and blinking up at her cautiously.

Charles, on the other hand, seemed to be enjoying the chaos, which only made Diana angrier. How could an adult be so childish, arguing with a kid?

Suppressing her temper, Diana cut the steak in front of her with a vengeance, imagining it was Charles' face.

The grating noise of the knife against the plate filled the room. Benjamin covered his ears but didn't dare say a word.

When she finished, she pushed the plate in front of Benjamin, her tone stern. "Here, your steak. No more arguing."

Benjamin nodded, whispering, "But then you won't have any."

"I'll eat this," she said, pointing to her original steak. "I like eating a whole piece. Patients and children eat the cut ones. Anyone have a problem with that? If not..."

"I do," Charles chimed in, right on cue.

Diana rolled her eyes out of his sight. How could a steak not shut him up?

"Mr. Percy, do you have a better solution? The most important thing now is to eat."

Charles raised an eyebrow and took her plate, slowly cutting the steak into pieces. "There, it's done. Let's eat."

Diana didn't find this gesture thoughtful at all. She roared internally, 'So, he can use his hands just fine? What was with the weak act earlier!'

Sure enough, Benjamin's face also turned sour, but with Diana beside him, he didn't act out.

To prevent the situation from worsening, Diana forced a stiff smile. "Thank you."

The dining room finally quieted down.

Benjamin felt this meal was really boring. When Charles wasn't around, he could chatter away with Diana about fun things. Now, he could only eat in silence.

He stuffed his mouth full, looking like a little hamster, secretly cursing Charles in his heart.

Diana noticed his expression and patted his leg under the table, signaling him not to be angry.

Benjamin felt a bit better and glared at Charles.

Catching their little interaction out of the corner of his eye, Charles found it amusing and didn't bother with them.

"I'm done. I'm going out to play!" Benjamin announced, finishing his food and not wanting to stay in the dining room any longer.

He wiped his mouth haphazardly, then jumped off the chair and ran out. Jacob quickly handed him a napkin and followed him out.

Diana didn't care where he went, just sped up her eating.

But soon, Charles stood up first.

"I'm done too. Ms. Wipere, enjoy your meal."

With her mouth full, Diana couldn't speak. She looked up to see he had indeed finished and was a bit stunned.

She watched Charles leave until he disappeared from sight, then slowed down to finish her food.

In the hallway, Charles pressed a fist to his mouth, recalling the earlier commotion, and couldn't help but chuckle.

Eating with others was more interesting.

His phone suddenly started vibrating in his pocket.

Charles composed himself and took it out. It was a call from Nolan.
