Chapter 387 Waking Up

After everything was done, Diana had soaked long enough. Charles walked into the bathroom and gently lifted her out of the water.

It wasn't the first time he'd bathed her after making love, but it had been many years since the last time.

Charles thought he might have forgotten how to do it, but as he went through the motions, he realized he was almost as skilled as a professional caregiver.

Diana, limp as a noodle, was dried off and placed back on the bed.

The red marks on her body were even more noticeable now.

Charles frowned slightly and muttered to himself, "Still so delicate."

Despite his words, he reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a tube of ointment.

The ointment was colorless, odorless, and very effective—something he had prepared specifically for Diana.

As he opened the tube, Charles scooped out a bit with his index finger and carefully applied it to the swollen red areas.

By morning, these marks would be completely gone.

Although Charles felt a bit regretful, Diana was still very resistant to him. He had to play along with her to avoid scaring her away.

Even though they had done much more intimate things, just hugging her during the day was enough to make her draw a clear line between them.

The pain in his shoulder was nothing compared to the ache in his heart.

Charles' fingers, smeared with ointment, were about to touch Diana's lips when he suddenly stopped, recalling the events of the day.

Dissatisfied, he lowered his head and gently nibbled on her lips.

A low, somewhat resentful voice slipped out between kisses, "You never say anything to make me happy. Your mouth is only good for kissing."

He kissed her for a long time, feeling a familiar stirring below.

But there wasn't enough time tonight to repeat what they had just done.

Reluctantly, Charles put Diana down and applied the ointment to her lips.

Once the ointment was absorbed, he dressed her in her pajamas.

Diana looked just as she had when he first entered the room.

She was always so obedient when she was asleep, never resisting his kisses or embraces.

After Diana was all freshened up, the tentacle monster from her dreams completely disappeared.

But fatigue gradually took over, and she drowsily thought, 'I hope I don't have any more nightmares.'

By the bedside, Charles tucked her in and watched her sleep for a while before leaning down to leave a kiss on her forehead, devoid of any sexual intent.

"Goodnight."

As dawn broke, a warm ray of sunlight slipped through the window, casting a slanting beam across the black bed in the middle of the bedroom.

Charles' internal clock woke him up on time. He opened his sleepy eyes, blinking heavily, and stared blankly at the sunlight streaming through the window.

It had been five years since he had slept so well.

He couldn't remember the last time he had slept soundly through the night and woken up naturally with the morning light.

He shifted his arm, which had gone numb, and was about to close his eyes and go back to sleep when he felt something soft and warm against him.

Instantly, his muscles tensed.

The memories of last night flooded back, and he hesitantly looked down to see Diana lying peacefully in his arms, her eyes closed.

Diana's eyelashes were lowered, her cheeks flushed, her breathing warm and steady, and her rosy lips slightly pouted as she slept soundly.

She hadn't woken up yet.

Instinctively, Charles pulled her closer, the dreamlike quality of last night finally feeling real. He gazed at Diana's sleeping face for a long time, his eyes unknowingly softening.

A strange warmth spread through his chest, gradually thawing his cold, numb heart.

Noticing the sunlight growing stronger outside, he carefully adjusted the bed to look like it had been slept in by one person and then left the room.

Diana felt surrounded by a strange yet familiar scent, which made her feel comfortable and safe.

As she pondered what the scent was, she heard a rustling sound at the door, as if someone was talking.

"Benjamin, Ms. Wipere is still asleep. Mr. Percy said not to disturb her. How about I take you out to play?"

The servant looked troubled, caught between Charles' orders and Benjamin's insistence on seeing Diana. Both were difficult to deal with.

"Ms. Wipere hasn't eaten yet. I need to wake her up for breakfast. Do you know what time it is?"

Benjamin was unhappy with the servant blocking his way and reached out to push him aside.

When Diana was home, they always went to bed and woke up early together, and their meal times were synchronized.

But now it was past lunchtime, and Diana was still asleep. Was that normal?

Skipping meals would make her hungry, and what if she got a stomachache? Didn't these servants understand that?

"Benjamin, Ms. Wipere is an adult. She'll eat when she's hungry. Don't worry. If she wants, someone can even feed her."

The servant blocked Benjamin's hand from reaching the door, pleading with his eyes.

Just then, the door opened.

Diana yawned, her eyes still sleepy, her hair a bit messy. Seeing the two of them at the door, she asked, "What's going on?"

Benjamin was momentarily stunned, then his eyes lit up.

"Good morning! Are you hungry? Let's go eat!"

He almost called her "Mommy," but quickly corrected himself, and the servant didn't notice anything unusual.

Diana was confused by his greeting. Morning? She turned to look at the clock on the wall. The hour hand pointed to one.

It was already one in the afternoon? How had she slept so long?

Since giving birth to Benjamin, her sleepiness had improved a lot. Even in recent days, her sleep had been normal.

Why had she slept so long today?

She uneasily scratched her neck and then looked down at Benjamin.

"Benjamin, you go play. I'm a bit tired today and want to rest a bit more."

Benjamin's mouth opened and closed, but he didn't say anything.

He was puzzled. It was already afternoon, and Diana still wanted to sleep?

But Diana's response greatly helped the servant.

She stepped forward, bent down, and said, "Benjamin, you see, Ms. Wipere needs more sleep. Let's go downstairs, okay?"

Seeing this, Benjamin, though reluctant, left without much fuss.

He scratched his fluffy head and waved to Diana.

"Okay, I'll go. You rest well."

Watching his small figure disappear into the distance, Diana closed the door and slipped into the bathroom.

She slowly unbuttoned her shirt, revealing her delicate collarbone.

There were no unusual marks on her chest, and she sighed in relief as she buttoned up her shirt.

But soon, Diana became more serious and took off her pants. Still, there was nothing.

How strange. Had she just had an erotic dream last night?

Diana ruffled her messy hair and ultimately blamed it on the sleep aid she had taken. She had slept so deeply; she wouldn't take it again.

For now, she turned her attention back to herself, soon feeling a gnawing pain in her stomach.

She was hungry.
