Chapter 54 Veteran Employee

Ever since they agreed to come back yesterday, Saskia, Henry, and Douglas had been on edge. It wasn't until they got to the office and saw that Coralie had set everything up for them that they started to relax a bit. But the other employees kept sneaking glances at them, making them feel uneasy.

A lot of folks knew Saskia and were shocked to see her back. When she left, she had a massive blowout with Nathan, and all the niceties went out the window. Now that she was back, some people felt uneasy. She bailed when the company was tanking, and now she's back when things are looking up?

Axel was clearly pissed and didn't bother hiding it. "Some people, I swear, just get all the breaks. Stuff others wouldn't even dream of just falls into their lap."

Someone in the office snickered, their eyes darting to Saskia. This tense vibe reminded Saskia of the days when she was bullied at work, making her feel awful. But this time, she had backup.

Seeing them chatting, Henry jumped in. He got right up in Axel's face, a menacing smile on his tough-looking mug. "What are you guys talking about? Mind sharing?"

Axel took a big step back, his tone dripping with disdain. "We're talking about someone you don't know. Can't you, a newbie, take a hint?"

Henry just rubbed his smooth bald head, acting clueless, and got even closer. "Oh, I just happened to be interested. So, who are you talking about?"

Axel kept backing up, muttering curses under his breath, and finally slunk back to his seat.

Henry looked around, and all the stares quickly disappeared. For a moment, the office was dead silent, just the sound of keyboards clacking. After Henry's little stunt, no one dared to mess with the three of them.

Saskia might have been an easy target before, but Douglas and Henry were wild cards, and no one wanted to take that risk.

The familiar click of high heels echoed from the doorway; it was Clara. But today, she looked odd, wearing a mask and sunglasses, her face completely covered. She was heading straight to her office but stopped when she saw Henry and the others. She called out loudly, "Coralie!"

Coralie heard her and quickly ran over. "What's up, Ms. Williams?"

Clara pointed at Henry, her tone icy. "Who are these people? I asked for new hires, and you bring me this? The market needs fresh blood, don't you get it?"

Coralie's tone was awkward; she was stuck between a rock and a hard place. "Ms. Williams, these are rehired employees. They know the ropes and can get up to speed fast."

"Rehired? Didn't I say no rehires? Who told you to bring them back?" Clara snapped.

Cold sweat broke out on Coralie's forehead. 'How do I explain this? If I say it was Diana's idea, Clara will lose it even more.'

As she lowered her head, not daring to speak, a clear voice came from the doorway, "I told her to, so what?" Diana stepped up to Clara, staring her down, her gaze sharp enough to cut through Clara's sunglasses and mask.

Clara's face was still numb from the medication. Remembering Diana's ruthless demeanor from yesterday, Clara felt a bit scared. Her voice wavered. "Let's talk inside." With that, Clara quickly walked into the office.

Diana shot Saskia, Henry, and Douglas a reassuring look before turning to Clara. "I thought I made it clear. We're each running our own team, seeing who can make money first. The people I hire are my business. What does it have to do with you?"

Clara, sitting in her chair, took off her sunglasses and mask, revealing her swollen cheeks. But she wasn't about to back down. With Nathan backing her, she had nothing to fear from Diana.

She said, "Did you get my approval to hire employees? I'm here representing Mr. Percy to manage the company. Hiring a bunch of young people is one thing, but bringing in some old-timers, are they just for show?"

Diana stepped forward, placing her hands on the desk, leaning down to meet Clara's eyes, her tone icy. "You do know you're just a representative, right? Besides Charles, I'm the largest shareholder of the Spencer Group. You think I have no right to hire people? Clara, if you keep being shameless, don't blame me for beating you up again. Let's see if Charles can help you this time."

Clara was taken aback by her words, losing her confidence. Moreover, she was terrified to find that Diana was very much like Charles. That kind of oppressive aura from a strong person made it hard to breathe.

Diana straightened up and gave one last warning, "You can mess with your own team all you want, but if you dare to interfere with me, I'll make you regret it forever." With that, Diana left the office without caring about Clara's reaction.

Seeing the curious looks from everyone, Diana walked up to Saskia, Henry, and Douglas and said loudly enough for everyone to hear, "Ms. Williams has agreed. Just focus on your work."

Diana had only been in the office for less than ten minutes, so people wondered what she did to get Clara to agree. Even Axel hesitated, wondering if Remy, who backed Diana, was the real winner.

Ignoring what others thought, Diana clapped her hands and called her team and the old employees for a meeting. She had been away for a while, and the work needed to be updated. Seeing them go to the meeting, others started to get distracted. They wondered when Clara would call them for a meeting.

But Clara had no mind for work at the moment. She turned and called Nathan. When the call connected, her voice was trembling and anxious. "Dad! How's your preparation going? Where are the people who can help us?"

Nathan hadn't started contacting anyone yet. Hearing Clara's tone, he lied, "These bosses are very busy. I'm in touch with them. Once I get an appointment, I'll take you to meet them."

Hearing this, Clara calmed down a bit but still urged, "Hurry up, Dad. Diana has brought back some old employees. If they're all very capable, what are we going to do?"

Nathan's voice suddenly became serious as he inquired, "What old employees? Clara, find out their names."

Clara was very puzzled. 'Could these three be really capable people?' She wondered and then quickly asked Coralie on the computer. Coralie soon replied to her.

Clara read out the three names one by one, "Douglas, Henry, Saskia. What's the matter, Dad? Are they very capable? Are they Diana's trump cards?"

On the other end of the line, Nathan's tone suddenly became urgent. "Clara, fire them immediately. Send them as far away as possible! Don't let Diana find them!"
