Chapter 424 Delivering Food
Ever since Benjamin and Diana moved into the Percy Mansion, Charles had been coming home more often, which made Jacob pretty happy.
It also gave him more reasons to turn down Benjamin's requests.
Benjamin pouted, clearly unhappy with the answer.
"No, I wanna see him. I need to talk to him face-to-face. It's still early, and I can bring him lunch if I go now."
He rattled off his reasons in one breath, not giving Jacob any time to think, and continued, "Mr. Percy didn't say I was stuck here, did he?"
"Well..." Jacob hesitated, glancing at Diana, who had been quiet all this time. "Is this Ms. Wipere's idea?"
Diana shook her head calmly, "Nope, it's got nothing to do with me. I'm just here to keep Benjamin company. I don't have any plans to meet Mr. Percy."
"Alright."
Jacob found her composed attitude even more challenging to deal with.
Seeing that his pleading wasn't working, Benjamin's patience wore thin.
He stomped his foot, his expression turning serious as he began to throw a tantrum. "I don't care, I wanna go! Why can't I go? This is illegal detention!"
Benjamin's voice grew louder, and Jacob quickly covered his mouth, forcing a polite smile.
"Benjamin, don't say stuff like that."
With his mouth covered, Benjamin's eyes still glared fiercely, unwilling to compromise.
Jacob, seeing this, had no choice but to offer a concession. "I'll call Mr. Percy and see what he thinks."
This was Jacob's biggest compromise.
Given Benjamin's special status, it wasn't appropriate for him to be out in public, especially at the company.
Hearing this, Benjamin pulled Jacob's hand away and argued, "But that ruins the surprise."
Just then, Diana spoke up, "Jacob, go ahead and call. Letting Mr. Percy know in advance will put him at ease."
Compared to Benjamin's unreasonable behavior, Diana's words were much more pleasant to Jacob, who smiled more genuinely. "Alright, I'll call Mr. Percy now."
He took out his phone and dialed Charles' number in front of them.
Since the family rarely called Charles, he answered quickly.
"What's up, Jacob?" Charles' voice was calm through the receiver.
Jacob glanced at the two beside him and then spoke, "Benjamin wants to come to the office to see you. He has something to say."
Charles raised an eyebrow slightly. "What does he want to say?"
Benjamin, hearing this, mouthed that he wanted to say it in person.
Jacob, seeing this, relayed the message, "He wants to tell you in person."
"Come to the office? Now?" Charles understood and asked.
Before Jacob could answer, Benjamin signaled for the phone.
Jacob took a deep breath and spoke quickly, "Benjamin is right here. I'll let him speak to you directly."
With that, he handed the phone to Benjamin.
"Mr. Percy, I have something to tell you."
"You can say it now."
"No, saying it over the phone isn't sincere. Mr. Percy, have you eaten? Ms. Wipere and I can bring you lunch. I promise I won't wander around. You can have those men in black watch me."
Benjamin rattled off a string of words, unsure if it would work, but his attitude was very humble.
There was a sudden silence on the other end of the line.
Everyone held their breath.
Just when Diana thought he would refuse, Charles' cool voice came through again, "Alright, come over. Jacob, make the arrangements."
He hung up, leaving the three of them stunned for a moment.
Benjamin's eyes widened as he looked at Diana. "Mr. Percy agreed?"
"He agreed. Benjamin, Ms. Wipere, I'll make the arrangements. Please wait here for a moment," Jacob responded and went to prepare.
Once he left, Benjamin excitedly high-fived Diana. "Awesome, we can go out!"
Diana smiled and pinched his cheek. "You're the mastermind here. When we get to the company, you have to communicate with him."
"Don't worry, leave it to me!" Benjamin patted his chest confidently.
At the Percy Group.
Charles had just hung up the phone, staring at the screen, lost in thought.
It wasn't until Claire came in with some documents that he snapped out of it.
"Mr. Percy, these need your signature."
"Alright, leave them there."
Claire placed the documents down and was about to leave when Charles called her back. "No need to prepare lunch."
Claire was taken aback. "Do you have other plans, Mr. Percy? I don't have any record of it."
"No, family is bringing lunch," Charles replied nonchalantly, but Claire took note.
Usually, the only person who brought Charles lunch was that actress. But with their recent public breakup, who could it be now?
Surely not her aunt Elise? Claire found the thought absurd and shivered at the idea.
"Got it."
Leaving the office, Claire casually asked Nolan, "Nolan, does Mr. Percy have any special plans today? He said not to order lunch."
Nolan, at his computer, looked up and thought for a moment.
Not recalling anything, he checked the schedule. "No, maybe Jacob arranged something?"
Charles had drunk a lot the previous night, so it made sense for the family to send some stomach-friendly food.
Nolan thought of Diana and muttered, "It couldn't be her, could it?"
His voice was so low that Claire didn't catch it. "What did you say?"
"Nothing, get back to work."
Nolan turned back to his keyboard, and Claire, getting no answers, decided to wait and see who would bring the lunch.
Unbeknownst to Diana, she was already the subject of much speculation before even arriving at the company.
After having an early lunch at home, Diana and Benjamin took the lunch boxes Jacob had prepared and got into the car.
Benjamin had expected a convoy with dozens of bodyguards, but they were instead put into a nondescript car, which he found a bit dull.
Two men in black sat in the front seats, nodding slightly as a greeting when they got in.
The ride was quiet, with no unnecessary chatter.
Benjamin didn't know them, but Diana did.
These men were professionally trained, each worth two regular guards. If they tried to escape now, they'd be caught before reaching the airport.
Thinking of this, she clicked her tongue. If she wanted to escape with Benjamin, it would require careful planning.
The car drove for a while before finally stopping in front of a tall building.
