Chapter 78 Drinking Capacity

Charles took the document, gave it a quick look, and saw it wasn't urgent. But since she was already there, he signed it anyway. Handing it back, he said, "Next time, you don't need to bring it over. If there's nothing else, you can go."

Clara didn't expect to be dismissed so fast. She pointed to Nathan beside her, looking a bit awkward. "Mr. Percy, it's after hours now. My dad's drinking alone here, and I'm worried. Can I stay and keep him company?"

Charles, a bit impatient, didn't stop her from showing some fatherly affection, so he waved his hand in agreement.

Clara immediately sat down cheerfully, and Nathan's seat was not far from Charles. Sitting next to Nathan, Clara could see Charles's perfect profile.

Eugene, used to such scenes, looked amused and teased, "Mr. Percy, you've got quite the charm. Ms. Williams seems to like you a lot."

Charles immediately denied it, "She's just an employee. Not every woman wants to be with me."

"I have a good eye for these things. If she doesn't like you, I'll go to Phoenixia and grow potatoes. No need for you to send me."

With Eugene's words, Charles couldn't help but fall into deep thought. Since his mother passed away, he returned to the Percy Family. Apart from Juniper, he couldn't feel any love from his other family members.

This made Charles very sensitive to people who didn't like him, but when it came to those who did, he was clueless. After all, he still didn't know what it was like to love someone.

But soon, Jace interrupted Charles's thoughts. He had drunk a bit too much, his cheeks were flushed, and his speech was a bit slurred, but he still passionately gave a speech, "As we gather here today, I realize I'm really old. Young people are indeed very capable, we can't keep up."

Jace's words caused everyone to burst into laughter. Someone in the crowd shouted, "Jace, you're old in age but young at heart!"

Jace heard this and waved his hand with a smile. He wiped his face and pointed at Charles, "You're all just humoring me, aren't you? Look at this guy! He is not even 30 yet, and everyone here respects him." Then Jace pointed to Billy with his other hand, "And this one, Vance's son. He just came back and has already outshone us all."

Seeing the topic shift to these two, the crowd didn't dare to laugh anymore and quickly pulled Jace to sit down. "Mr. Gibson, you're drunk. Let's take a break."

But Jace slammed the table and, before he could finish, raised his glass to Charles. Then he turned to Billy and downed his drink in one go. "To you both!"

Jace was straightforward but not a bad person, so everyone wanted to help him out. Afraid that he might say something inappropriate, one person held his shoulder while another covered his mouth.

Two people who were close to Jace apologized to Charles and Billy with a smile, "Sorry, he drank too much. Please forgive him."

Charles didn't mind, but Billy suddenly spoke, "Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Gibson. I'll drink to that." After drinking, Billy looked at Charles with a challenging gaze.

Eugene's eyes lit up. Having been friends for so long, Eugene knew Charles couldn't stand being challenged. Sure enough, the next second, Charles raised his glass, his voice cold. "To Mr. Gibson." After speaking, he downed his drink.

Billy continued, "Mr. Percy, you have a good tolerance. Didn't expect you to get drunk at Harmony Haven Estate that time." After saying that, he took another drink.

Hearing Billy bring up the past, Charles got into it. "I am not as good as Mr. Richardson, who got drunk and sent gifts to a divorced women online."

Everyone else was busy taking care of Jace, so no one noticed the tension between Charles and Billy. But Clara, who had been watching Charles, noticed he kept drinking and softly advised, "Mr. Percy, don't drink too much. It's bad for your health." But the next second, Charles pushed her away, almost causing her to fall.

Eugene kindly suggested, "Ms. Williams, you should prepare some hangover and stomach medicine for your boss. It's no use advising him now."

Clara nodded reluctantly and sat back down. Her eyes still fixed on Charles and her attention was entirely on him.

The two men silently confronted each other across the table. Until a bottle of wine was empty, Billy finally couldn't hold on and admitted defeat. Billy's eyes were glazed, his cheeks flushed, and he unbuttoned two buttons on his chest, feeling hot. He didn't sit for long and then headed to the restroom.

Charles, having drunk more than a bottle, felt worse than Billy. Dizziness and nausea were minor issues; the excessive drinking caused a burning pain in his stomach.

Eugene noticed Charles's discomfort and wanted to take him to the restroom, but Charles waved him off. Clara saw him leave the room and immediately followed.

Charles vomited a lot in the restroom. He was sober now, but the stomach pain persisted, making him frown in discomfort.

"Mr. Percy, are you feeling unwell? I have stomach and hangover medicine here," Clara called out softly at the door, having taken Eugene's advice and asked the waiter for the medicine.

Charles, unsteady on his feet, walked to the restroom door and took the stomach medicine first. He swallowed it without water. After a while, he came out, only to see Clara still standing at the door. He frowned and asked, "Why are you still here?"

Clara quickly stepped forward to support him, her tone ingratiating, "Mr. Percy, you're drunk. Let me help you upstairs to rest."

Charles didn't refuse her. He was indeed feeling unwell. Going back to the private room was pointless, so he accepted Clara's help. The fifth floor of Mirage Nights Club was for accommodation, prepared for guests who were too drunk.

Clara carefully helped Charles out. In the hallway, near the wall, a couple was hugging. The man was a head taller than the woman and seemed drunk, his head buried in her neck, mumbling something. The woman wore a pale yellow nightgown, not looking like she was attending a party. It seemed she had been called to Mirage Nights Club in the middle of her sleep.

She was petite and seemed to struggle under the drunk man's weight. She spoke with difficulty, "Billy, Billy, wake up, get up."

Hearing the familiar voice, Charles stopped in his tracks. He turned around sharply, and it wasn't some random couple; it was Billy and Diana!

Billy held Diana in his arms, his fuzzy head rubbing against her neck, speaking drunkenly but loudly, "Diana, you smell so good. Are you here to take me home? I miss you so much."

Charles's face turned livid, hearing every word. Despite being drunk himself, he pulled Billy away from Diana. Billy, completely drunk, slumped against the wall. Diana, however, was grabbed by the furious Charles.

She hadn't even realized what was happening when she saw Charles's grim face. Diana cried out in pain, "Charles, are you crazy? Let go of me!"

Clara tried to pull him away but was shoved aside by Charles. Now, Charles's eyes were only on Diana.

Breathing heavily, with his eyes dark and unclear, he pulled Diana closer. "Are you flirting with another man in front of me? Diana, have you forgotten your identity again?" Charles questioned.
