Chapter 313 Miscarriage
The bleeding was coming from Diana's lower body.
In his panic earlier, he had no choice but to crash his car to stop the other vehicle.
But it had happened so fast that he had no idea whether Diana had been hit.
His heart skipped a beat as he remembered she was pregnant.
With his one good hand, he reached out to touch her.
But the blood on the sheets was relentless, spreading more and more.
A large stain of blood had turned the sheets red. Diana lay there with her eyes closed, her face pale. The stark contrast gave her a tragic, fragile beauty.
She looked like a delicate vase.
"Quick, stop the bleeding! She's pregnant!"
Charles suddenly shouted, startling Dean and the nurse nearby.
Dean finally realized that the man claiming to be Diana's husband was Charles.
Hearing that Diana was pregnant, his mind went blank.
'Pregnant? What? Who's pregnant? Sophia never mentioned this. How could she suddenly be pregnant?'
'What kind of mission is this? Is this for real?'
Dean's mind raced, his eyes falling on Diana, and the sight of the bright red blood shocked him.
But he quickly remembered it was all part of the plan.
He stepped forward and restrained the nearly hysterical Charles, whispering, "Calm down!"
He signaled with his eyes, and the nurse quickly took the opportunity to administer a sedative.
The world fell silent.
Dean handed Charles over to the nurse and lifted Diana's blanket to check.
Seeing the blood bag tied to her leg, he breathed a sigh of relief and covered her back up.
Today's events had been thanks to Charles.
If he hadn't crashed into that car in time, Diana's injuries would have been much worse.
But now, Diana being pregnant left Dean even more confused.
After a moment of thought, he decided to wait until Diana woke up to discuss it with her.
In the operating room, the light shone on Diana's face, making her frown.
After a moment, she raised her hand to shield her eyes and said softly, "Dean, I'm going blind!"
Seeing her awake, Dean turned off the light.
Diana moved her body a bit. Other than the pain from the wound on her forehead, she felt nothing else.
But Dean's deep gaze made her uneasy.
"Why are you looking at me like that? Since it's just the two of us here, the plan must have worked."
"You're pregnant, with Charles' child?"
Dean's voice was firm.
Diana blinked, feeling awkward that he had said it out loud.
After a moment, she placed a hand on her stomach and responded, explaining, "This body isn't mine. She and Charles were married before, but they're divorced now."
Dean raised an eyebrow, "I checked. Diana and Charles didn't get along before. Even after the divorce, they're still together?"
He paused for a moment, then concluded, "Sophia, Charles must be obsessed with you. That's why he won't let you go."
For the first time, Diana was speechless in front of him, not knowing what to say.
Seeing her reaction, Dean understood a bit more and said, "So what about the baby? It's still early; you can terminate the pregnancy."
Diana shook her head, "I've tried to terminate it before, but it didn't work. Besides, the baby is well-behaved. This is my child, and I'll take the baby with me."
Dean closed his eyes, his expression conflicted, "Sophia, I'm happy you're having a child, but the situation is that you can't take the baby with you. You might not even be able to leave yourself."
Diana looked up, her eyes wide with confusion.
"What do you mean?"
"The plan hit a snag. Your husband is something else. Even after being sedated, he didn't stay down for long and is now waiting outside the operating room. If no one had stopped him, he would have barged in by now."
"What?" Diana's eyes widened, her emotions flaring.
"How am I supposed to escape now? No way, even if I play dead, can you guarantee to save me before I'm cremated?"
Dean slowly shook his head, "Sophia, I'm not a miracle worker. With his level of obsession, he'd probably watch you turn to ashes. Then drink your ashes with his coffee."
Seeing him joke at a time like this, Diana slapped him, "Get serious! What do we do now?"
Dean gritted his teeth, enduring the pain, and continued, "If he cares about the baby, then make the baby disappear first. Take it step by step."
Right, her agreement with Charles was because of the baby. If she miscarried, maybe Charles would get fed up and let her go!
Diana's eyes lit up, and she said, "Let's do it your way."
"Alright, I've got everything set up at this hospital. Nothing will go wrong. You just need to act like a devastated mother who lost her child."
Diana nodded, relieved that the hospital wasn't Charles', or they wouldn't be able to hide anything.
After their conversation, Diana started to drift off to sleep again. Once she was fully asleep, Dean wheeled her out.
Outside the operating room, Charles had been bandaged up. He was incredibly lucky to have only injured an arm and suffered a mild concussion from such a collision.
Nolan was reporting on the driver who caused the accident, "Mr. Percy, we've checked. The driver has no connection to Elise. His brakes failed, causing him to hit several people. He's in the ICU now, and it's unlikely he'll survive."
He couldn't help but ask, "Do you think this accident wasn't an accident?"
Charles' eyes darkened as he looked at the operating room door. He couldn't stop replaying the scene of Diana being hit by the car in his mind.
In the hours she was in surgery, Charles had learned the whole story.
He was both angry and heartbroken. She had run out in so little clothing to find a doctor for Evelyn.
If he hadn't been sulking and had gotten out of the car to bring Diana back sooner, would this accident have happened?
She had lost so much blood.
As he thought about it, Charles couldn't help but clutch his hair, feeling something inside him breaking free, spiraling out of control.
When the operating room door opened, Diana was wheeled out, tubes attached to her.
Her face was pale, and the bandage on her forehead made her face look even smaller.
The blood-stained sheets had been changed, but Charles' mind couldn't help but imagine a large patch of blood on it.
The masked doctor spoke calmly, "Are you Diana's family? Her surgery was successful, and she's not in immediate danger."
"But the baby didn't make it. When she wakes up, make sure to keep her calm and don't let her get too emotional."
Charles didn't hear the rest. It felt like his heart was being squeezed, making it hard to breathe, and he swayed on his feet.
Nolan was startled, not expecting things to get this serious, and quickly moved to support Charles.
But Charles had already regained his usual composure, speaking coldly, "Let's go back to the room."
Nolan was stunned. The baby was gone, yet Charles remained unflappable. Should he call him cold-blooded or strong?
