Chapter 35 Friends Reunite

Nolan was about to doze off in the car when a sudden knock on the window jolted him awake. He was surprised to see Charles back so soon, less than an hour this time. "Mr. Percy, where to now?"

Charles rubbed his head, leaned back in the rear seat, and sighed, "To Mirage Nights Club."

That was the spot where Charles had taken Diana last time, even though things went south between them there. But being a VIP, no one dared to stop Charles from going back. Plus, Eugene had invited him for a drink tonight. Feeling a bit annoyed, Charles figured a few drinks might help.

Nolan nodded and, noticing Charles wasn't in the best mood, drove smoothly.

Eugene Bailey was the second son of the Bailey Family, with his older brother handling the family business. Eugene lived a pretty laid-back life, just enjoying himself and constantly dating with different women.

Eugene wasn't cut out for business, so he left the company to his brother. But a few years back, when Charles had just taken over the Percy Group and funds were tight, Eugene had invested his own money in one of Charles's projects. Not only did he help Charles out, but he also made a nice profit.

Since then, Eugene thought Charles was his lucky charm and considered him a good friend, often inviting him out. Charles, usually swamped with work, only accepted a couple of those invites.

Eugene was thrilled Charles had come out tonight. He even picked a pretty girl for Charles, telling her to take good care of him.

As soon as Charles walked into the private room, he saw Eugene enjoying the company of a woman. Another woman, petite with watery eyes, looked like a little rabbit, making people want to protect her.

Seeing Charles come in, the woman scooted over and said in a soft, seductive voice, "Mr. Percy."

Eugene found the voice pleasant, but Charles was unimpressed, his face showing clear disgust. "Get out," he snapped. The woman's face fell. Despite Charles's tempting status, she knew better than to anger him, so she quickly apologized to Eugene and left.

Eugene was used to this; he always tried to set Charles up with different women, but Charles never showed any interest. Remembering that Charles didn't get along with his wife, Eugene had once joked that maybe Charles had a crush on him and was gay. Charles responded with a punch, leaving Eugene with black eyes and too embarrassed to go out for over a month.

"What’s up, Mr. Percy? Didn't you divorce that woman? I haven't had a chance to congratulate you on being single again." Eugene raised his glass and took a sip.

Charles casually grabbed a bottle of wine and drank. "If you mention that woman again, I'll dump you in the middle of nowhere."

Eugene shut up and changed the subject. "So, what brings you out tonight? No work today?"

Charles replied, "I'm the boss; I can choose not to work. I came to see you today to talk about something."

Seeing Charles was about to get serious, Eugene straightened up. "Go ahead."

"My grandmother's gem has been found. Guess who found it." Charles pulled out the gem, and even in the dim light, it glowed warmly.

Eugene's eyes went wide. He knew Charles had been hunting for that gem for ages. The Bailey Family was deep in the auction game, Eugene had instructed his people to be on the lookout for the gem. If they found anything similar, it was supposed to come straight to him.

"How many years has it been lost? How did you find it? I've been keeping tabs on both domestic and international auctions, and there hasn't been a peep," Eugene said.

Charles tucked the gem away and replied, "Diana found it."

Eugene thought, 'He just told me not to mention her, and now he's bringing her up himself.'

"Her? How did she find it? Wait, you're not regretting the divorce just because she found the gem, are you?" Eugene's focus was all over the place.

Charles gave him a hard knock. "If you keep talking nonsense, I'll have your brother set you up with a wife who can keep you in check."

"I'm sorry. I'm just curious how she did it. We even posted a bounty on the Dark Web, but the top hacker A didn't respond. Does Diana have the pull to hire A?" Eugene's tone was full of doubt.

Charles was skeptical too, especially after confirming the gem was legit. Diana had become more mysterious, a far cry from the foolish Diana of the past. But as Eugene mentioned, A hadn't taken a job in three years.

Someone had once offered A eighty million dollars for a job, but they still refused. A didn't care about money or power, and people still revered them despite his quirks.

"Impossible, A hasn't taken a job in three years." Eugene suddenly raised his hand to refute. "A came back recently and announced that they are taking jobs again. But it's still the same; they seem to pick jobs based on their whims."

Charles stared at his glass, lost in thought. 'Could it be that A found Diana pleasing and decided to help her?'

"If she really helped you find it, I think you should keep her close and monitor her. Diana is not simple; she actually went to such lengths to please you." Eugene clinked his glass with Charles's and drank.

Charles felt a bit dizzy but was still conscious. "Well, to get the gem back, I had to revive the Spencer Group."

Eugene paused, his tone shocked. "What? Charles, you spent money to get the gem from your ex-wife? Wasn't what she did before disgusting enough? You should have just taken it by force. How could you be so gentle with her, Mr. Percy? How about showing me some love too?"

Seeing Eugene's shameless look, Charles kicked at him, but Eugene dodged. "Of course, I haven't forgotten what she did. If she doesn't work hard, there are plenty of ways to torment her. Besides, I'm the largest shareholder of the Spencer Group. All company affairs are under my control."

Eugene was relieved; the cunning and ruthless Charles was the one he knew. "So she's working for you? Diana is so pitiful that she divorced and is still forced to work for her ex-husband. You better be careful not to rekindle any old feelings under the guise of work."

Charles lifted his eyelids and pinched Eugene's thigh, making him yelp. "How can you rekindle something that never existed? If you keep talking nonsense..."

Before Charles could finish, Eugene had already learned to interrupt. "You'll throw me into a remote area! Got it. You are a prude just like my brother. I can't even joke around. come on, let's drink."
