Chapter 433 Memories
Charles felt a slight movement behind him, and the next second, two small hands wrapped around his neck from behind, holding on tightly as if afraid of being pushed away.
"Thanks, Mr. Percy. I like you too. Good night."
With that, Benjamin quickly let go, grabbed his stuffed animal, and rolled to the other side of the bed, falling silent.
Charles, nearly choked, rubbed his neck, debating whether to kick the little rascal out or give him a good scolding.
But remembering Benjamin's words and his behavior tonight, Charles managed to hold back his temper and let it go.
He slept dreamlessly through the night.
The next morning, as Charles was leaving, Diana and Benjamin were already awake.
After breakfast, they both saw him off.
On the steps, Jacob smiled respectfully and said, "Mr. Percy, safe travels."
Benjamin mimicked him, hugging Charles' leg, "Mr. Percy, good luck."
Charles pulled him away from his leg and looked at Diana, who hadn't said anything yet.
Noticing his gaze, Diana blinked and smiled, "Mr. Percy, have a successful trip and come back soon."
He responded with a faint acknowledgment and then turned to get into the car.
Only after the car had driven out of the gate did the three of them turn back to the mansion.
Diana slowed her pace and casually asked, "Jacob, when is Mr. Percy's flight?"
Jacob scratched his chin, knowing that Nolan handled most of the work-related matters, so he hesitated, "It should be in the morning, right? I'll ask Nolan."
Diana was just probing, but Jacob was so proactive that she didn't have time to refuse before he had already opened his phone to inquire.
Soon, Nolan replied.
Jacob, holding his phone, smiled, "It's an eleven o'clock flight. Mr. Percy will go to the office first and then head straight to the airport. Ms. Wipere, why do you ask?"
Diana tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear and made up an excuse, "Seeing him leave so early, I thought he was in a hurry. It's nothing, I was just curious."
"Alright, I'll head downstairs. If you need anything, just call me."
Jacob didn't suspect anything and, after checking the time, prepared to leave.
At that moment, Benjamin suddenly spoke up, "Mr. Hearst, I want to go to the amusement park today. Can Ms. Wipere and the bodyguards come with me?"
Jacob paused. Diana and Benjamin had been going out frequently these days, and Charles hadn't objected. It seemed he had tacitly approved.
So Jacob just checked the weather and, seeing no issues, said gently, "Of course, but the amusement park isn't open yet. The Percy family has a playground in the south of the city. If you want to play, I can notify them now."
Benjamin shook his head. The south was too far from the airport, and it was Charles' territory.
So he said, "No, I saw online that the amusement park in the east has a parade today. I want to see that."
Seeing that he had made up his mind, Jacob didn't say more and turned to ask Diana, "Ms. Wipere, what do you think?"
"I have no objections. Mr. Percy asked me to stay and take care of Benjamin, so I'll follow his wishes."
Diana naturally agreed wholeheartedly.
"Alright, I'll arrange the car and the accompanying bodyguards. You can get ready."
With Jacob's words, both of them nodded and went upstairs to pack.
They had come to the Percy Mansion empty-handed, so there wasn't much to pack.
Benjamin, however, took his Snowy-like stuffed animal and nothing else.
"Is that all?" Diana asked.
"Yep." Benjamin hugged the stuffed animal, nodded, and then blinked, "Mommy, let's take a walk around the house."
After all, they would never come back here again.
"Okay."
Diana didn't stop him, instead holding his hand and walking with him.
The Percy Mansion was large but not particularly special.
It was a house left by Juniper's generation, and apart from the frequently used areas, the rest felt rather gloomy.
Many rooms were locked, but the sculptures and paintings in the corridors were somewhat interesting.
But Benjamin's attention wasn't on those. He pulled Diana forward until they stopped at a room door.
Diana looked up, her eyes flickering. This was the children's room prepared for Benjamin.
She looked at Benjamin's face, puzzled, "Why are you here? Let's go, there's nothing to see here."
Benjamin let go of her hand, stepped forward, and tried the door handle, finding it locked.
"It's locked. Let's go."
Diana urged again, feeling a bit repelled by this place.
"Mommy, don't rush. I know what this place is, and I brought you here on purpose."
Benjamin said as he pulled a small metal piece from his pocket, inserted it into the lock, and listened to the faint sounds it made.
Diana's eyes widened. Was this for real? When did Benjamin learn to pick locks?
But reality often surprises. Benjamin bit his tongue, focused, and after a few movements with the metal piece, the door actually opened.
Diana was shocked.
Benjamin proudly raised his eyebrows. He had worked on this for a long time.
Luckily, the lock was simple. If it had been a password lock, he wouldn't have managed.
"Alright, let's go in and take a look."
Having been here a few times, Benjamin was more comfortable than Diana. He pulled her inside and quickly closed the door.
The familiar scene reappeared, and Diana momentarily forgot to question how he had opened the door.
Instead, she looked around.
The crib, rocking chair, toys, educational posters, and baby supplies on the table were all exactly as they had been five years ago.
Every item's position had been carefully arranged by her.
Diana couldn't help but walk over and pick up a pacifier from the table, saying to Benjamin, "Benjamin, Evelyn bought this for you."
Benjamin looked at it and scratched his head, "Mommy, I've never met Evelyn."
Diana realized she hadn't told Benjamin much about the past.
Even coming back this time, she hadn't visited any of her old friends.
Diana pressed her lips together, feeling a bit down, and put the pacifier back.
Benjamin, however, was excited. He waved his hand and asked, "Mommy, which things did you buy for me, and which did Dad... he buy?"
He spoke so quickly he almost said "Dad," but quickly corrected himself.
Diana didn't mind the slip and answered seriously, "These things weren't just bought by me and him. My friends contributed a lot too. Besides Evelyn, there's Isolde. Her son is two years older than you. If you meet him, be polite."
Benjamin's eyes lit up at the mention of new people.
"Okay!"
After agreeing, he suddenly remembered something and pulled Diana towards the crib.
"Mommy, look here."
