Chapter 349 Not Allowed to Leave

Jacob glanced up at the children's room that Charles and Diana had once decorated together.

A pang of sorrow hit him as he stepped forward, taking Benjamin's hand and crouching down to speak.

"Yeah, this is the kids' room."

"Kids' room," Benjamin echoed. The door was bright and colorful, with a cute little elephant decoration. So, it was a kids' room.

Could it be meant for him?

Benjamin's curiosity was piqued. He tugged on Jacob's hand and asked, "Mr. Hearst, can I just peek through the crack in the door? I promise I won't go inside."

Jacob looked a bit conflicted, but Benjamin looked so much like Charles and was about the same age as the child who had passed away.

Unable to resist Benjamin's innocent request, he softened and said, "Alright, but just a peek. If Mr. Percy finds out, we'll both be in trouble."

Benjamin nodded eagerly. He was just curious about what was inside. He wasn't doing anything wrong, so what harm could it do?

As Jacob turned the key in the lock and pushed the door open a crack, Benjamin obediently peered through the small opening.

Inside, he saw various items for babies and children.

Jacob's voice came from beside him, "When we bought these things, Mrs. Percy was only two or three months pregnant. We didn't know if it was a boy or a girl, so we prepared a lot."

He added, "Mr. Percy was really excited about the baby's arrival. See that little crib? He and Mrs. Percy put it together."

Benjamin's gaze followed Jacob's words to the crib, which looked just like the one he used to have.

Benjamin had grown up in the Sword of Damocles, where he never lacked for anything.

But this kids' room, personally decorated by Charles and Diana, felt strange to him.

Did Charles really look forward to his arrival?

Behind him, Jacob's voice turned somber, "Unfortunately, the child passed away. If he had been born, he would be about your age now."

Benjamin closed the door and said, "I've seen enough. Thanks, Mr. Hearst."

Jacob smiled and locked the door again. "Let's go check out some other places."

This time, Benjamin wasn't curious anymore. He shook his head, gripping the straps of his backpack tightly. "I don't want to see anything else. I want to go home."

He was afraid that if he stayed any longer, he wouldn't be able to resist confronting Charles about why he treated Diana the way he did.

If he loved her, he should have treated her well.

Benjamin never doubted what Dean and Diana had told him. If Charles had truly been good to them, why would Diana go through so much trouble to flee abroad?

Charles must have done something unforgivable to drive Diana away.

Jacob was surprised that Benjamin's curiosity had waned so quickly. "What about Snowy? Don't you want to see it?"

Benjamin hesitated, then after some thought, he sighed and said, "I know now that Snowy is your family's dog. Snowy's living well here, so I'm relieved."

Although he wanted to take Snowy with him, it was clear that Charles wouldn't allow it. Right now, getting out of here was more important.

Besides, once he was back home, Diana would buy him a dog!

Jacob chuckled at his serious demeanor. "Actually, this dog was adopted by Mrs. Percy. After she passed away, even though Mr. Percy didn't like dogs, he let us keep it. Snowy is five years old now, older than you."

Benjamin's eyes sparkled. So, Diana had adopted Snowy. No wonder Snowy was so attached to him from the first meeting.

"Then before I leave, can I see it one more time?"

"Sure thing."

The two of them headed downstairs, where Snowy was waiting by its food bowl.

Seeing this, Benjamin wanted to try feeding it. He reached for the dog food in the servant's hand.

The servant glanced at Jacob, who nodded, and then handed the bag over.

Benjamin bent down and scooped several spoonfuls into the dog bowl.

Snowy barked excitedly and began eating with gusto.

Benjamin crouched beside it, watching it eat with a smile, gently stroking its furry ears and whispering, "Snowy, I'm going home. Be good here, okay?"

Seeing everyone watching him, Benjamin leaned closer to Snowy's ear and whispered even softer, "If your owner treats you badly, bite him!"

The others couldn't hear what he said, thinking he was just whispering to the dog, finding it quite endearing.

After Snowy finished eating, Benjamin reluctantly waved goodbye to it.

Holding the stuffed animal and carrying his backpack, he stood at the door and said to Jacob, "Mr. Hearst, I'm leaving now. I had a great time today. Thanks for having me."

Jacob's heart melted at his well-mannered behavior. Smiling, he said, "You're welcome."

But he couldn't let Benjamin leave alone, so he suggested, "Where are your family members? Should I call them? Or I can have a driver take you home."

Benjamin politely shook his head. "No need. I called a car myself. I'll be home soon."

If he used the Percy family's car, Charles could easily track his movements.

No matter what Jacob said, Benjamin remained firm, so Jacob had to relent.

Just as Benjamin was about to leave, two tall, burly men in black appeared from the corner, blocking his way like two mountains.

Benjamin wasn't scared. He just tried to walk around them.

One of the men grabbed his suspenders and lifted him up.

Jacob was stunned. What was going on? Why were Charles' bodyguards stopping Benjamin?

"What are you doing?" Jacob asked.

"Mr. Percy said the child's departure needs his personal approval," one of the men said sternly.

Benjamin kicked his short legs in frustration, "I don't even want the dog anymore! Why are you stopping me? Let me go! I want to go home!"

The man placed him on the couch.

Benjamin quickly got up, trying to escape through a gap, but was soon caught again.

"Kid, we're professionally trained. If we can't even catch you, how can we do our job? I suggest you behave, or you'll only hurt yourself," the man said seriously, placing him back on the couch.

Benjamin's face flushed with anger, "This is illegal detention! Kidnapping!"

Then he put on a pitiful expression, turning to Jacob for help, "Mr. Hearst, help me! I want to go home! I miss my mommy!"

As he spoke, tears streamed down his face, making him look extremely pitiful.

Dean was right. He shouldn't have come to the Rainbow Federation.

And he shouldn't have been so naive to trust Charles.

Charles was indeed a demon!

Jacob looked troubled. The bodyguards only listened to Charles. Since Charles had given such an order, there must be unresolved issues with Benjamin.

But seeing him cry so heartbreakingly, Jacob could only try to comfort him.

"I'm sorry, these men only follow Mr. Percy's orders. I'll go get him, okay? Maybe he has something to say to you."

He turned to leave, but the other bodyguard stopped him, saying sternly, "Mr. Percy is resting. He'll come down when he wakes up."
