Chapter 110 Clinging
Nolan, always sharp, stepped up and handed over his business card with a professional smile. "Hey, Mr. Glenn. I'm Nolan, Mr. Percy's special assistant. Mr. Percy is usually swamped, but you're a VIP to him. If you need anything, just hit me up."
Noah took the card and gave a slight smile. "Got it."
"I really am getting old and useless; everything relies on you young folks. Thanks, Charles. With you around, I feel at ease." Garry nodded, satisfied that his plan was working.
Even though it was just contact with an assistant, for Charles, this had already shown a lot of respect. Not everyone had Nolan's business card.
With Noah's deal sorted, Garry turned to Sabrina, who was sitting nearby. He patted her shoulder and said to Charles, "Charles, Sabrina is currently studying at Dreamscape University. I remember that's your alma mater, right? So, you could be considered her senior. Noah is usually busy and doesn't have time to show her around. If you have time, could you do it?"
Nolan felt a bit helpless. They had just discussed a collaboration, and now Garry wanted to push Sabrina onto Charles. Was Noah really busier than Charles?
So Nolan immediately said, "Mr. Percy works every day and doesn't have much free time. If Ms. Glenn wants to have fun, I can arrange for a few company secretaries to accompany her."
Nolan's words were a bit blunt, but Charles didn't scold him because he felt the same way. The Percy Group was a huge enterprise, and he was always busy with work. He had no time to entertain Sabrina.
But Garry sighed, looking understanding. "Charles, your wife is about the same age as Sabrina, right? She's probably bored at home. They could keep each other company."
"I am already divorced, Mr. Glenn. You might not have heard the news since you're abroad," Charles spoke calmly, without any emotion.
Garry paused, his expression changing. "I really didn't know that. My bad for speaking out of turn."
"It's okay," Charles said as he stood up, "Excuse me for a moment."
The private room was too stuffy, and Garry's endless chatter was tiresome. Charles needed some fresh air.
As soon as Charles and Nolan stepped out, Garry's expression changed. "Sabrina, there's no hostess of the Percy family right now. You need to get along well with Charles, understand?"
Sabrina smiled sweetly and clung to Garry's arm, acting all cute. "Got it, Grandpa. I didn't expect him to be so handsome in person."
Noah teased from the side, "Didn't you say you didn't like arranged marriages? Why the change of heart after seeing him?"
Sabrina huffed arrogantly. Initially, she had no intention of returning to the country. But after her family business took a big hit, Garry asked her to come back and marry a divorced man. However, upon meeting Charles, Sabrina realized how much effort Garry had put into introducing her to him. Even if Charles had a kid, Sabrina would happily become a stepmother.
Just one look into Charles' deep eyes made Sabrina's legs feel weak.
"Sabrina, curb your temper. Charles is not an ordinary man; he won't like a spoiled woman. I heard his ex-wife was too foolish and spoiled, which is why Charles dumped her." Garry took a sip of water, his eyes full of calculation.
"Grandpa, come on. Didn't you say you liked me the most? Now you're calling me spoiled!" Sabrina pouted, clearly annoyed.
Noah laughed heartily, "We both spoil you because we love you. But Grandpa's right. Don't throw tantrums with Charles."
Sabrina was a bit miffed but figured they had a point. If she wanted to win Charles over, it was better to listen to them, so she didn't argue further.
At the entrance of the Azure Palace Hotel, Charles lit a cigarette. As he exhaled, the smoke rings floated around his face, making his expression hard to read.
Nolan stood silently beside him, waiting for Charles to finish smoking.
Before he could take a few puffs, a familiar voice came from behind.
"Diana, this amount of money is nothing to me. No need to be so polite next time."
"How can that be? I asked for your help, and you ended up spending money."
It was Diana and Billy. Especially Diana's voice, which Charles recognized immediately.
Nolan looked at Charles, about to speak, but was stopped by his gaze. They were hidden behind a pillar at the Azure Palace Hotel entrance, making it hard to notice them unless one looked closely.
Billy's tone was somewhat resentful. "Why are you fussing over this? I have plenty of money."
Diana paused, her tone unchanged. "It's not about the money, Billy. Don't always act like a rich fool; it's easy to get scammed."
"If it's you scamming me, I wouldn't mind." Billy chuckled, his voice light.
The two had just come out of the Azure Palace Hotel. Diana had asked him out not only to discuss the livestream but also to explain the aftermath of Cecil's kidnapping.
Billy had been brooding over his inability to help during the kidnapping, feeling useless. During dinner, Diana had spent a long time comforting him, finally cheering him up.
Now that they had finished eating, Diana was ready to go home, while Billy had to return to the office. So Diana declined Billy's offer to drive her home, and they waited together for their drivers.
Nolan, sweating nervously, glanced at Charles. Fortunately, Charles did not step out to confront them. Instead, he emerged from behind the pillar after Diana left. "Such deep affection."
Billy was startled by Charles' sudden appearance, his expression immediately turning sour. "Charles? Were you eavesdropping?"
"I don't have a thing for eavesdropping. This is a public place; I was listening openly and honestly." Charles held his cigarette, eyes slightly narrowed, and continued, "But your relationship seems mediocre. Didn't you go to the scene during the kidnapping, Mr. Richardson?"
"How did you know..." Billy was about to ask when Charles brushed past him, leaving only a parting remark. "Of course, I went to the scene and resolved the issue. Mr. Richardson, better luck next time."
Charles' tone was flippant, his words drawn out. Ignoring Billy's reaction, Charles walked back into the Azure Palace Hotel. Nolan finally snapped out of it and hurriedly followed.
Billy's face was grim. He had been in a good mood after parting with Diana. Now, Charles' words had left him feeling a mix of anger and shame, causing a dull ache in his chest.
But Billy didn't know who to blame, with no outlet for his anger. By the time his driver arrived, his face was still tightly drawn.
