Chapter 76 Resignation
Robert frowned. "Is everyone okay? Did you catch all of them?"
Diana nodded and started walking towards her desk. Robert stepped closer, asking, "What do you mean by hiding them?"
Diana replied, "Exactly what it sounds like. We'll hand them over to the police later."
Seeing her serious expression, Robert couldn't help but argue, "Diana, these guys are serious criminals. Just hand them over to the police. What you're doing is illegal detention, and it's risky."
Diana nodded, understanding his concern. "Robert, remember Nathan still has 15% of the Spencer Group's shares? I want that 15%."
After Bianca passed away, Nathan had been running the company for her. But due to poor management, the company took a hit, and he abandoned it. That was when Charles started buying up shares, and Nathan sold off most of his, leaving him with just 15%.
They didn't care about those shares, but Diana did. If Nathan got arrested now, those shares might end up with Charles. Diana wanted Nathan to willingly transfer them to her. As for the illegal detention, she couldn't care less. If a top hacker A from the Dark Web can't even evade the police, it would be a real embarrassment for them.
Seeing Diana's calm demeanor, Robert knew she had a plan, so he held back his advice and just said, "Be careful."
Over at the Williams Villa, Nathan was in his study, contacting Dean. Dean sent over some bloody photos and details about the burial. Nathan frowned, keeping his face as far from the screen as possible. He only felt relieved after quickly swiping past the photos.
B: [There are more detailed ones. Want to see them?]
Nathan immediately refused. Even though he had hired the hitman, he was squeamish about this stuff and hadn't been sleeping well. Seeing more would probably make him lose sleep entirely.
Nathan: [What about the other two? Can you guarantee I won't see them tomorrow?]
B: [Are you questioning my professionalism? I guarantee you won't see them. Please settle the remaining payment.]
Nathan had already paid a $500,000 deposit. Now that the job was done, he had second thoughts.
Nathan: [I don't trust you. I want to see them gone from Evergreen City myself. The remaining payment can wait.]
After sending that, Nathan quickly deleted Dean from his contacts.
Dean was momentarily stunned when he saw the message couldn't be sent. Then he realized what was happening and smirked. So, Nathan wanted to dodge the payment after the job was done.
Dean put down the mouse and stretched. He thought to himself, 'Nathan still doesn't get how the Dark Web works and thinks he can play me. Well, let him enjoy his little victory for now. I'll get that remaining $1 million back. Nathan is just too naive. He knows the Dark Web can hire hitmen but doesn't know the market price. For someone like Saskia, an ordinary person with no power or influence, professional hitmen wouldn't even take the job.'
Dean had been keeping a close eye on things, so he could take the job and pass it off to others.
Meanwhile, Nathan called Clara to share the good news. Clara couldn't stop grinning. "Finally, it's Diana's turn to suffer. With these three ticking time bombs gone, what could she possibly use to fight me?"
Over at the Spencer Group, things were tense since Clara had fired a bunch of people. The remaining employees were walking on eggshells, scared of ticking Clara off.
Diana's team, once the envy of everyone, had two senior employees quit at the same time yesterday, and the last one was MIA. Unlike when they first came back, they looked totally defeated.
Coralie wanted to ask why they quit after being rehired, but Henry and Douglas weren't saying a word. Their resignations needed approval from the higher-ups, but Diana wasn't around.
So, Coralie had to call Diana herself. She carefully chose her words, trying to explain the situation. "Ms. Spencer, here's the thing. Of the three people you rehired, one hasn't shown up for two days. The other two just handed in their resignations, and we need your approval. "
Diana sounded puzzled on the phone. "Resign? I had no idea they wanted to quit. No one told me. Put them on the phone; I'll talk to them myself."
Coralie handed the phone to Henry. Unexpectedly, Henry grabbed the phone and shouted, "Diana, I quit! Whoever wants to stay in this company can stay." After yelling, he handed the phone back to Coralie, panting heavily, which startled her.
Douglas stepped forward and asked, "Do we really need her signature to leave?"
Coralie nodded nervously and then shook her head. Technically, the formal process required Diana's approval for their resignation, but if they really didn't come to work, the company couldn't force them to stay. But what had happened in just a few days to make them so hostile towards Diana?
Henry, looking fierce, pulled Douglas back and spoke loudly, "Who cares if she agrees or not? We're leaving. We're not slaves to this company." With that, they slammed their resignation letters on the table so hard that a few drops of water splashed from the cup on the desk.
The commotion drew the attention of others in the office, who quickly looked away when they saw the two men. It wasn't until they left that people started whispering.
Coralie realized the phone was still connected and quickly picked it up, saying, "Ms. Spencer, you heard it. That's the situation now."
On the other end of the line, Diana was silent for a moment, her voice filled with anger. "I'll come right now to handle it."
Coralie nodded. She didn't want to get involved in this mess anymore; she was just a junior HR employee. Not only were the other people in the office talking about it, but even Clara was secretly laughing. She didn't expect Nathan to be so efficient. He said it would be done yesterday, and today all three were gone. As long as Diana was upset, Clara was happy.
Evelyn had been sitting next to Diana, chatting and laughing. But when Diana answered the phone, her expression turned serious. The other person's voice was so loud that Diana had to hold the phone away from her ear. She said, "Henry is really overacting."
After the call ended, Diana stood up, ready to go to the company. She was now the boss whose key people were being forced out, so she naturally had to make a scene in front of Clara to make it look real.
Evelyn, looking dazed, saw her expression change and asked concernedly, "Ms. Spencer, are you okay?"
Diana patted her head gently and smiled brightly, "Don't worry, I'm fine." But soon, others would not be fine.
When Diana rolled into the office, it was almost quitting time. Clara was just about to head out, packing her stuff. But Diana wasn't having it. She shoved Clara back onto the couch so fast that Clara's hair got all messed up. Clara had her makeup on point today, but the second she saw Diana, her face fell apart. She yelled, "Diana, what the hell? If you're losing it, go see a shrink!"
