Chapter 175 A Chance Encounter with Eugene
After Diana and her crew left the private room, they made a beeline for the elevator.
Even though the negotiation went great, she still seemed distant and visibly down.
Robert picked up on her mood but didn't say anything, just followed her quietly.
With a ding, the elevator arrived.
Inside, Eugene was holding a girl, making her giggle with whatever he was saying.
Diana's two bodyguards were hard to miss with their intimidating presence.
Eugene looked up, their eyes met, and he raised an eyebrow. "Ms. Spencer, what a coincidence."
Diana glanced up, not surprised to see Eugene. They weren't close, so she just nodded politely.
Ever since that drinking session with Charles, Eugene had taken a special interest in Diana.
How did this divorced woman manage to stay on Charles's mind? Was it just because of the baby?
As he pondered, Eugene's gaze fell on Diana's belly, which showed no sign of pregnancy.
Diana noticed and moved behind Robert. "Mr. Bailey, keep your eyes to yourself."
"What did you say?" Eugene exaggeratedly cupped his ear, pretending he hadn't heard.
Diana frowned, not wanting to deal with him, and looked at him with a disdainful expression.
This amused Eugene. With a chuckle, he said, "Ms. Spencer, are you trying to imitate Charles? That look you just gave is so him."
Diana was taken aback. Did she really resemble Charles?
To others, it might not mean much, but to Diana, being compared to Charles was deeply offensive, like an insult to her character.
She already didn't like Eugene, and hearing this, she reached out to press the elevator button, wanting to avoid him.
But Eugene stopped her hand. "Ms. Spencer, why the rush? We have a party on the fifth floor, and lots of people you know are there. It's been a while, why not come up and say hi?"
The bodyguards saw him blocking her and immediately pulled Diana's hand back, looking fierce.
Robert stepped in front of Diana, his tone cold. "Mr. Bailey, please behave."
He initially thought Eugene was a friend of Diana's, so he kept quiet.
But seeing this, it was clear Diana didn't like him. If Eugene kept pestering her, Robert wouldn't hold back.
Eugene paused, stopped by the three of them. "I just wanted to invite her to a party, not scare her off. Why are you all overreacting? I'm Mr. Percy's best friend. How dare you treat me like this!"
Diana, feeling trapped in the cramped space, was getting really annoyed.
Hearing Eugene's words, anger surged in her, but considering his status, she held back and coldly said, "I don't want to go. Mr. Bailey, enjoy yourself. Or you can call Charles and invite him."
Diana had always been a laughingstock in the circle. Most of those so-called "friends" were jealous of her marriage to Charles and often gave her bad advice.
Charles's current dislike for her was partly due to their instigation.
Since her divorce, these people have repeatedly made her the butt of their jokes.
Diana couldn't understand Eugene's intentions in inviting her to such a gathering.
The two were at a stalemate in the elevator. Since Diana hadn't pressed a floor button, the elevator doors closed and went up to the fifth floor.
As the elevator arrived, Eugene raised an eyebrow, his tone playful, "We're here. Still not coming?"
When the doors opened, Eugene pulled the girl beside him and stepped out.
He was a hit among the rich kids, and bringing Diana along would definitely spice things up. But she wasn't having it.
Just as the doors began to close, a hand shot out, startling Eugene.
Luckily, the elevator's sensors were quick, stopping the doors from shutting.
Diana, who had been looking pretty annoyed, suddenly stepped out, her tone calm, "Mr. Bailey, who's hosting this party?"
Eugene didn't expect her to ask and answered honestly, "It's me, of course."
Hearing this, Diana smiled, but it was a chilling smile. "Suddenly, I feel like attending this party. Lead the way, Mr. Bailey."
Eugene raised his eyebrows, a bit surprised, "What are you planning?"
"Just as you said, to see old friends," Diana thought to herself, 'And maybe settle some scores.'
Thanks to Eugene's reminder, memories of how they had once bullied her came flooding back.
Diana was in a foul mood and full of anger with nowhere to vent. Since Eugene insisted on her attending the party, she didn't mind causing a little chaos.
Diana's radiant smile made it hard to doubt her sincerity. Robert and the two bodyguards couldn't figure out her intentions.
They exchanged glances, confirming today's task: no matter what, ensure Diana's safety.
"Robert, you can go back. I can handle this alone." Diana suddenly spoke. She thought, 'Robert is old, and it's best for him to avoid such scenes.'
Robert looked worried, "But you..."
"I'm fine. Besides, Mr. Bailey is Charles's good friend. In his place, no one can bully me." Diana reassured Robert, but her eyes were fixed on Eugene, "Am I right, Mr. Bailey?"
Eugene felt something was off but answered truthfully, "Of course."
Noticing Diana's firm tone and the two bodyguards with her, Robert didn't argue, just shook his phone, "Alright then. Message me when you get home."
Diana nodded, watching Robert enter the elevator.
Eugene nudged the girl beside him, "Go on ahead. I want to walk with Ms. Spencer."
The well-behaved girl glanced at Diana and walked ahead.
The fifth-floor private rooms were different from the ones in the third floor.
The room was noisy, with deafening music and laughter. Even through the door, Diana could hear the ruckus.
When the girl pushed the door open, it didn't draw anyone's attention.
But Eugene suddenly grabbed Diana's wrist and quickly pulled her in. "Everyone, I'm here."
Inside the room, men and women sat together. On closer look, they were almost all children of Evergreen City's elites.
When Eugene appeared, the chatter grew louder, "Mr. Bailey, why are you late today? Come on, have a drink!"
Eugene's smile grew broader, but instead of picking up a drink as usual, he pulled Diana closer. "Everyone, hold on. Guess who I brought?"
As he spoke, the room quieted down and everyone looked over.
Diana's outfit today was entirely professional, making her look out of place in this setting.
But with her striking features and the colored lights cascading down on her, she appeared quite striking.
