Chapter 478 Mourning

Benjamin's already wide eyes grew even larger at the words.

"You're lying! That's impossible! They..."

He already had me, a kid!

He didn't finish the sentence, realizing his mistake, and quickly covered his mouth.

"What about them?" Eugene asked with a smile, patting Benjamin's head.

"There are a lot of things you don't know. Get some sleep. Goodnight."

With that, he turned and left without a second thought.

Benjamin stood there, stunned, pondering Eugene's words.

"Mr. Hearst, what did he mean? What exactly are Mr. Percy and the others doing?"

Jacob hesitated, unsure how to respond. The situation with Charles and Diana was too complicated to explain in a few words. Besides, Benjamin was just a child; he wouldn't understand even if he were told.

Thinking this, Jacob forced a gentle smile and reassured him, "Mr. Bailey likes to tease kids. He was just joking. If you have any questions, wait until Mr. Percy returns and ask him directly. He'll tell you."

Hearing the dismissive tone, Benjamin pressed his lips together. Despite Jacob's usual kindness, if he didn't want to talk about something, no one could get a word out of him.

So, Benjamin didn't press further and silently returned to his room. Once he locked the door, he eagerly opened his watch to tell Dean about the day's events.

Benjamin: [Dean, I still haven't found out where Mom is. I miss her so much. When can we go home?]

Usually, it took at least 20 minutes to get a reply from Dean, but today he responded almost immediately.

Dean: [I know where your mom is. She's safe. We talked today. Don't worry, buddy.]

Benjamin's eyes widened at the message, and he immediately called Dean.

When the call connected, he forgot to even say hello. "Where's my mom? How is she?"

"She contacted me today. She's staying at one of Charles's other properties. She's fine, so don't worry."

Dean's gentle tone tried to soothe Benjamin's anxiety. Hearing that Diana was okay, the tension of the past few days melted away, and tears welled up in his eyes.

"Dean, when can we see each other again? When can we go home?"

Although life at the Percy Mansion was fine, he longed to be with Diana.

Dean pressed his lips together. After their last failed escape, Charles had become much more vigilant. Now, keeping them separated inadvertently restrained Diana.

People don't fall for the same trick twice. Even if Diana played dead again, Charles would probably conduct an autopsy to confirm it was her.

"Benjamin, don't worry. Everything will be okay. Your mom is trying her best. Take care of yourself and don't antagonize Charles. You'll be reunited soon."

Benjamin pouted, looking very upset. "Okay, but why did Mom contact you and not me?"

"Well, I'm not sure about that."

Diana's contact with Dean had been brief, just enough to update him on her situation before she had to disconnect. Now back at Moon Hill Villa, she found the signal jammer in the house prevented her from reaching Benjamin.

She stared at the ceiling, feeling like a lifelike statue. Charles had been working there, so why couldn't she access the internet?

A hacker without the internet is like a fish out of water. Charles was in the shower, and they would likely share a bed again tonight.

When Charles emerged from the bathroom, he saw her staring blankly at the ceiling. He paused and then asked, "What's wrong?"

Was she still thinking about the restaurant incident? Charles wondered but didn't want to discuss his illness.

"Nothing, just a bit tired," Diana replied honestly.

"Then get some rest. That's how work is."

He had grown accustomed to it over the years, dedicating most of his time to the company. He didn't usually feel tired, but seeing Diana struggle with his schedule made him feel a bit guilty.

"Don't go out tomorrow. Stay home. I'll come back early."

"No way. I have plans. You can't keep me locked up."

Diana's energy returned, and she immediately objected. She pulled the blanket over herself, cocooning tightly.

Charles, about to pull the blanket, paused and decided not to tell her she could go out without going to the office.

They fell asleep in each other's arms as usual, something subtly changing in the peaceful atmosphere.

The next morning, Diana got up quickly. Adjusting to Charles's schedule, she no longer felt groggy.

At the breakfast table, Charles noticed her alertness and joked, "Are you taking over my job today?"

Diana, biting into her toast, gave him a reproachful look. "In your dreams. Your work is your own. I'm going to visit my mom's grave."

"I'll go with you," Charles replied without hesitation.

"No, my mom was shy and didn't like strangers."

Diana shook her head, but seeing Charles's face darken, she quickly changed her approach. "Next time. Today, I want to talk to her alone."

Charles didn't argue, which Diana took as agreement, feeling a small victory.

After breakfast, they headed to the office together. The previous day's excitement had calmed, but curiosity about Diana remained.

As Charles began reviewing documents, Diana said, "I'm leaving now. I'll be back before lunch."

Charles gave a nonchalant nod, signaling his approval.

Soon, a bodyguard escorted Diana to the car, which drove towards the cemetery.

The cemetery was far from the city center, taking nearly an hour to reach. Diana bought a bouquet of white chrysanthemums and found Bianca's grave.

Bianca loved beauty, so the photo on her tombstone was from her youth. Her radiant smile made it all the more tragic that such a beautiful person had become a skeleton.

As Diana placed the flowers, she noticed signs of another visitor. The area around the grave was meticulously cleaned, and a bouquet of lilies, Bianca's favorite, lay there.

It seemed someone had come to pay their respects before her.
